Judges 19

And it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him a concubine out of Beth–lehem–judah.

اُس زمانے میں جب اسرائیل کا کوئی بادشاہ نہیں تھا ایک لاوی نے اپنے گھر میں داشتہ رکھی جو یہوداہ کے شہر بیت لحم کی رہنے والی تھی۔ آدمی افرائیم کے پہاڑی علاقے کے کسی دُوردراز کونے میں آباد تھا۔

And his concubine played the whore against him, and went away from him unto her father's house to Beth–lehem–judah, and was there four whole months.

لیکن ایک دن عورت مرد سے ناراض ہوئی اور میکے واپس چلی گئی۔ چار ماہ کے بعد

And her husband arose, and went after her, to speak friendly unto her, and to bring her again, having his servant with him, and a couple of asses: and she brought him into her father's house: and when the father of the damsel saw him, he rejoiced to meet him.

لاوی دو گدھے اور اپنے نوکر کو لے کر بیت لحم کے لئے روانہ ہوا تاکہ داشتہ کا غصہ ٹھنڈا کر کے اُسے واپس آنے پر آمادہ کرے۔ جب اُس کی ملاقات داشتہ سے ہوئی تو وہ اُسے اپنے باپ کے گھر میں لے گئی۔ اُسے دیکھ کر سُسر اِتنا خوش ہوا

And his father in law, the damsel's father, retained him; and he abode with him three days: so they did eat and drink, and lodged there.

کہ اُس نے اُسے جانے نہ دیا۔ داماد کو تین دن وہاں ٹھہرنا پڑا جس دوران سُسر نے اُس کی خوب مہمان نوازی کی۔

And it came to pass on the fourth day, when they arose early in the morning, that he rose up to depart: and the damsel's father said unto his son in law, Comfort thine heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward go your way.

چوتھے دن لاوی صبح سویرے اُٹھ کر اپنی داشتہ کے ساتھ روانہ ہونے کی تیاریاں کرنے لگا۔ لیکن سُسر اُسے روک کر بولا، ”پہلے تھوڑا بہت کھا کر تازہ دم ہو جائیں، پھر چلے جانا۔“

And they sat down, and did eat and drink both of them together: for the damsel's father had said unto the man, Be content, I pray thee, and tarry all night, and let thine heart be merry.

دونوں دوبارہ کھانے پینے کے لئے بیٹھ گئے۔ سُسر نے کہا، ”براہِ کرم ایک اَور رات یہاں ٹھہر کر اپنا دل بہلائیں۔“

And when the man rose up to depart, his father in law urged him: therefore he lodged there again.

مہمان جانے کی تیاریاں کرنے تو لگا، لیکن سُسر نے اُسے ایک اَور رات ٹھہرنے پر مجبور کیا۔ چنانچہ وہ ہار مان کر رُک گیا۔

And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart: and the damsel's father said, Comfort thine heart, I pray thee. And they tarried until afternoon, and they did eat both of them.

پانچویں دن آدمی صبح سویرے اُٹھا اور جانے کے لئے تیار ہوا۔ سُسر نے زور دیا، ”پہلے کچھ کھانا کھا کر تازہ دم ہو جائیں۔ آپ دوپہر کے وقت بھی جا سکتے ہیں۔“ چنانچہ دونوں کھانے کے لئے بیٹھ گئے۔

And when the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father in law, the damsel's father, said unto him, Behold, now the day draweth toward evening, I pray you tarry all night: behold, the day groweth to an end, lodge here, that thine heart may be merry; and to morrow get you early on your way, that thou mayest go home.

دوپہر کے وقت لاوی اپنی بیوی اور نوکر کے ساتھ جانے کے لئے اُٹھا۔ سُسر اعتراض کرنے لگا، ”اب دیکھیں، دن ڈھلنے والا ہے۔ رات ٹھہر کر اپنا دل بہلائیں۔ بہتر ہے کہ آپ کل صبح سویرے ہی اُٹھ کر گھر کے لئے روانہ ہو جائیں۔“

But the man would not tarry that night, but he rose up and departed, and came over against Jebus, which is Jerusalem; and there were with him two asses saddled, his concubine also was with him.

لیکن اب لاوی کسی بھی صورت میں ایک اَور رات ٹھہرنا نہیں چاہتا تھا۔ وہ اپنے گدھوں پر زِین کس کر اپنی بیوی اور نوکر کے ساتھ روانہ ہوا۔ چلتے چلتے دن ڈھلنے لگا۔ وہ یبوس یعنی یروشلم کے قریب پہنچ گئے تھے۔ شہر کو دیکھ کر نوکر نے مالک سے کہا، ”آئیں، ہم یبوسیوں کے اِس شہر میں جا کر وہاں رات گزاریں۔“

And when they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said unto his master, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn in into this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it.

لیکن اب لاوی کسی بھی صورت میں ایک اَور رات ٹھہرنا نہیں چاہتا تھا۔ وہ اپنے گدھوں پر زِین کس کر اپنی بیوی اور نوکر کے ساتھ روانہ ہوا۔ چلتے چلتے دن ڈھلنے لگا۔ وہ یبوس یعنی یروشلم کے قریب پہنچ گئے تھے۔ شہر کو دیکھ کر نوکر نے مالک سے کہا، ”آئیں، ہم یبوسیوں کے اِس شہر میں جا کر وہاں رات گزاریں۔“

And his master said unto him, We will not turn aside hither into the city of a stranger, that is not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to Gibeah.

لیکن لاوی نے اعتراض کیا، ”نہیں، یہ اجنبیوں کا شہر ہے۔ ہمیں ایسی جگہ رات نہیں گزارنا چاہئے جو اسرائیلی نہیں ہے۔ بہتر ہے کہ ہم آگے جا کر جِبعہ کی طرف بڑھیں۔

And he said unto his servant, Come, and let us draw near to one of these places to lodge all night, in Gibeah, or in Ramah.

اگر ہم جلدی کریں تو ہو سکتا ہے کہ جِبعہ یا اُس سے آگے رامہ تک پہنچ سکیں۔ وہاں آرام سے رات گزار سکیں گے۔“

And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah, which belongeth to Benjamin.

چنانچہ وہ آگے نکلے۔ جب سورج غروب ہونے لگا تو وہ بن یمین کے قبیلے کے شہر جِبعہ کے قریب پہنچ گئے

And they turned aside thither, to go in and to lodge in Gibeah: and when he went in, he sat him down in a street of the city: for there was no man that took them into his house to lodging.

اور راستے سے ہٹ کر شہر میں داخل ہوئے۔ لیکن کوئی اُن کی مہمان نوازی نہیں کرنا چاہتا تھا، اِس لئے وہ شہر کے چوک میں رُک گئے۔

And, behold, there came an old man from his work out of the field at even, which was also of mount Ephraim; and he sojourned in Gibeah: but the men of the place were Benjamites.

پھر اندھیرے میں ایک بوڑھا آدمی وہاں سے گزرا۔ اصل میں وہ افرائیم کے پہاڑی علاقے کا رہنے والا تھا اور جِبعہ میں اجنبی تھا، کیونکہ باقی باشندے بن یمینی تھے۔ اب وہ کھیت میں اپنے کام سے فارغ ہو کر شہر میں واپس آیا تھا۔

And when he had lifted up his eyes, he saw a wayfaring man in the street of the city: and the old man said, Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou?

مسافروں کو چوک میں دیکھ کر اُس نے پوچھا، ”آپ کہاں سے آئے اور کہاں جا رہے ہیں؟“

And he said unto him, We are passing from Beth–lehem–judah toward the side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I: and I went to Beth–lehem–judah, but I am now going to the house of the LORD; and there is no man that receiveth me to house.

لاوی نے جواب دیا، ”ہم یہوداہ کے بیت لحم سے آئے ہیں اور افرائیم کے پہاڑی علاقے کے ایک دُوردراز کونے تک سفر کر رہے ہیں۔ وہاں میرا گھر ہے اور وہیں سے مَیں روانہ ہو کر بیت لحم چلا گیا تھا۔ اِس وقت مَیں رب کے گھر جا رہا ہوں۔ لیکن یہاں جِبعہ میں کوئی نہیں جو ہماری مہمان نوازی کرنے کے لئے تیار ہو،

Yet there is both straw and provender for our asses; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for thy handmaid, and for the young man which is with thy servants: there is no want of any thing.

حالانکہ ہمارے پاس کھانے کی تمام چیزیں موجود ہیں۔ گدھوں کے لئے بھوسا اور چارا ہے، اور ہمارے لئے بھی کافی روٹی اور مَے ہے۔ ہمیں کسی بھی چیز کی ضرورت نہیں ہے۔“

And the old man said, Peace be with thee; howsoever let all thy wants lie upon me; only lodge not in the street.

بوڑھے نے کہا، ”پھر مَیں آپ کو اپنے گھر میں خوش آمدید کہتا ہوں۔ اگر آپ کو کوئی چیز درکار ہو تو مَیں اُسے مہیا کروں گا۔ ہر صورت میں چوک میں رات مت گزارنا۔“

So he brought him into his house, and gave provender unto the asses: and they washed their feet, and did eat and drink.

وہ مسافروں کو اپنے گھر لے گیا اور گدھوں کو چارا کھلایا۔ مہمانوں نے اپنے پاؤں دھو کر کھانا کھایا اور مَے پی۔

Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.

وہ یوں کھانے کی رفاقت سے لطف اندوز ہو رہے تھے کہ جِبعہ کے کچھ شریر مرد گھر کو گھیر کر دروازے کو زور سے کھٹکھٹانے لگے۔ وہ چلّائے، ”اُس آدمی کو باہر لا جو تیرے گھر میں ٹھہرا ہوا ہے تاکہ ہم اُس سے زیادتی کریں!“

And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly.

بوڑھا آدمی باہر گیا تاکہ اُنہیں سمجھائے، ”نہیں، بھائیو، ایسا شیطانی عمل مت کرنا۔ یہ اجنبی میرا مہمان ہے۔ ایسی شرم ناک حرکت مت کرنا!

Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing.

اِس سے پہلے مَیں اپنی کنواری بیٹی اور مہمان کی داشتہ کو باہر لے آتا ہوں۔ اُن ہی سے زیادتی کریں۔ جو جی چاہے اُن کے ساتھ کریں، لیکن آدمی کے ساتھ ایسی شرم ناک حرکت نہ کریں۔“

But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go.

لیکن باہر کے مردوں نے اُس کی نہ سنی۔ تب لاوی اپنی داشتہ کو پکڑ کر باہر لے گیا اور اُس کے پیچھے دروازہ بند کر دیا۔ شہر کے آدمی پوری رات اُس کی بےحرمتی کرتے رہے۔ جب پَو پھٹنے لگی تو اُنہوں نے اُسے فارغ کر دیا۔

Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man's house where her lord was, till it was light.

سورج کے طلوع ہونے سے پہلے عورت اُس گھر کے پاس واپس آئی جس میں شوہر ٹھہرا ہوا تھا۔ دروازے تک تو وہ پہنچ گئی لیکن پھر گر کر وہیں کی وہیں پڑی رہی۔ جب دن چڑھ گیا

And her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way: and, behold, the woman his concubine was fallen down at the door of the house, and her hands were upon the threshold.

تو لاوی جاگ اُٹھا اور سفر کرنے کی تیاریاں کرنے لگا۔ جب دروازہ کھولا تو کیا دیکھتا ہے کہ داشتہ سامنے زمین پر پڑی ہے اور ہاتھ دہلیز پر رکھے ہیں۔

And he said unto her, Up, and let us be going. But none answered. Then the man took her up upon an ass, and the man rose up, and gat him unto his place.

وہ بولا، ”آٹھو، ہم چلتے ہیں۔“ لیکن داشتہ نے جواب نہ دیا۔ یہ دیکھ کر آدمی نے اُسے گدھے پر لاد لیا اور اپنے گھر چلا گیا۔

And when he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, together with her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the coasts of Israel.

جب پہنچا تو اُس نے چھری لے کر عورت کی لاش کو 12 ٹکڑوں میں کاٹ لیا، پھر اُنہیں اسرائیل کی ہر جگہ بھیج دیا۔

And it was so, that all that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt unto this day: consider of it, take advice, and speak your minds.

جس نے بھی یہ دیکھا اُس نے گھبرا کر کہا، ”ایسا جرم ہمارے درمیان کبھی نہیں ہوا۔ جب سے ہم مصر سے نکل کر آئے ہیں ایسی حرکت دیکھنے میں نہیں آئی۔ اب لازم ہے کہ ہم غور سے سوچیں اور ایک دوسرے سے مشورہ کر کے اگلے قدم کے بارے میں فیصلہ کریں۔“
