Esther 1

Now it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus, (this is Ahasuerus which reigned, from India even unto Ethiopia, over an hundred and seven and twenty provinces:)

اخسویرس بادشاہ کی سلطنت بھارت سے لے کر ایتھوپیا تک 127 صوبوں پر مشتمل تھی۔

That in those days, when the king Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom, which was in Shushan the palace,

جن واقعات کا ذکر ہے وہ اُس وقت ہوئے جب وہ سوسن شہر کے قلعے سے حکومت کرتا تھا۔

In the third year of his reign, he made a feast unto all his princes and his servants; the power of Persia and Media, the nobles and princes of the provinces, being before him:

اپنی حکومت کے تیسرے سال میں اُس نے اپنے تمام بزرگوں اور افسروں کی ضیافت کی۔ فارس اور مادی کے فوجی افسر اور صوبوں کے شرفا اور رئیس سب شریک ہوئے۔

When he shewed the riches of his glorious kingdom and the honour of his excellent majesty many days, even an hundred and fourscore days.

شہنشاہ نے پورے 180 دن تک اپنی سلطنت کی زبردست دولت اور اپنی قوت کی شان و شوکت کا مظاہرہ کیا۔

And when these days were expired, the king made a feast unto all the people that were present in Shushan the palace, both unto great and small, seven days, in the court of the garden of the king's palace;

اِس کے بعد اُس نے سوسن کے قلعے میں رہنے والے تمام لوگوں کی چھوٹے سے لے کر بڑے تک ضیافت کی۔ یہ جشن سات دن تک شاہی باغ کے صحن میں منایا گیا۔

Where were white, green, and blue, hangings, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rings and pillars of marble: the beds were of gold and silver, upon a pavement of red, and blue, and white, and black, marble.

مرمر کے ستونوں کے درمیان کتان کے سفید اور قرمزی رنگ کے قیمتی پردے لٹکائے گئے تھے، اور وہ سفید اور ارغوانی رنگ کی ڈوریوں کے ذریعے ستونوں میں لگے چاندی کے چھلوں کے ساتھ بندھے ہوئے تھے۔ مہمانوں کے لئے سونے اور چاندی کے صوفے پچی کاری کے ایسے فرش پر رکھے ہوئے تھے جس میں مرمر کے علاوہ مزید تین قیمتی پتھر استعمال ہوئے تھے۔

And they gave them drink in vessels of gold, (the vessels being diverse one from another,) and royal wine in abundance, according to the state of the king.

مَے سونے کے پیالوں میں پلائی گئی۔ ہر پیالہ فرق اور لاثانی تھا، اور بادشاہ کی فیاضی کے مطابق شاہی مَے کی کثرت تھی۔

And the drinking was according to the law; none did compel: for so the king had appointed to all the officers of his house, that they should do according to every man's pleasure.

ہر کوئی جتنی جی چاہے پی سکتا تھا، کیونکہ بادشاہ نے حکم دیا تھا کہ ساقی مہمانوں کی ہر خواہش پوری کریں۔

Also Vashti the queen made a feast for the women in the royal house which belonged to king Ahasuerus.

اِس دوران وشتی ملکہ نے محل کے اندر خواتین کی ضیافت کی۔

On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven chamberlains that served in the presence of Ahasuerus the king,

ساتویں دن جب بادشاہ کا دل مَے پی پی کر بہل گیا تھا تو اُس نے اُن سات خواجہ سراؤں کو بُلایا جو خاص اُس کی خدمت کرتے تھے۔ اُن کے نام مہومان، بِزّتا، خربونا،بِگتا، ابگتا، زِتار اور کرکس تھے۔

To bring Vashti the queen before the king with the crown royal, to shew the people and the princes her beauty: for she was fair to look on.

اُس نے حکم دیا، ”وشتی ملکہ کو شاہی تاج پہنا کر میرے حضور لے آؤ تاکہ شرفا اور باقی مہمانوں کو اُس کی خوب صورتی معلوم ہو جائے۔“ کیونکہ وشتی نہایت خوب صورت تھی۔

But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king's commandment by his chamberlains: therefore was the king very wroth, and his anger burned in him.

لیکن جب خواجہ سرا ملکہ کے پاس گئے تو اُس نے آنے سے انکار کر دیا۔ یہ سن کر بادشاہ آگ بگولا ہو گیا

Then the king said to the wise men, which knew the times, (for so was the king's manner toward all that knew law and judgment:

اور داناؤں سے بات کی جو اوقات کے عالِم تھے، کیونکہ دستور یہ تھا کہ بادشاہ قانونی معاملوں میں علما سے مشورہ کرے۔

And the next unto him was Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, which saw the king's face, and which sat the first in the kingdom;)

عالِموں کے نام کارشینا، سِتار، ادماتا، ترسیس، مرس، مرسِنا اور مموکان تھے۔ فارس اور مادی کے یہ سات شرفا آزادی سے بادشاہ کے حضور آ سکتے تھے اور سلطنت میں سب سے اعلیٰ عُہدہ رکھتے تھے۔

What shall we do unto the queen Vashti according to law, because she hath not performed the commandment of the king Ahasuerus by the chamberlains?

اخسویرس نے پوچھا، ”قانون کے لحاظ سے وشتی ملکہ کے ساتھ کیا سلوک کیا جائے؟ کیونکہ اُس نے خواجہ سراؤں کے ہا تھ بھیجے ہوئے شاہی حکم کو نہیں مانا۔“

And Memucan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti the queen hath not done wrong to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the people that are in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus.

مموکان نے بادشاہ اور دیگر شرفا کی موجودگی میں جواب دیا، ”وشتی ملکہ نے اِس سے نہ صرف بادشاہ کا بلکہ اُس کے تمام شرفا اور سلطنت کے تمام صوبوں میں رہنے والی قوموں کا بھی گناہ کیا ہے۔

For this deed of the queen shall come abroad unto all women, so that they shall despise their husbands in their eyes, when it shall be reported, The king Ahasuerus commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she came not.

کیونکہ جو کچھ اُس نے کیا ہے وہ تمام خواتین کو معلوم ہو جائے گا۔ پھر وہ اپنے شوہروں کو حقیر جان کر کہیں گی، ’گو بادشاہ نے وشتی ملکہ کو اپنے حضور آنے کا حکم دیا توبھی اُس نے اُس کے حضور آنے سے انکار کیا۔‘

Likewise shall the ladies of Persia and Media say this day unto all the king's princes, which have heard of the deed of the queen. Thus shall there arise too much contempt and wrath.

آج ہی فارس اور مادی کے شرفا کی بیویاں ملکہ کی یہ بات سن کر اپنے شوہروں سے ایسا ہی سلوک کریں گی۔ تب ہم ذلت اور غصے کے جال میں اُلجھ جائیں گے۔

If it please the king, let there go a royal commandment from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it be not altered, That Vashti come no more before king Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate unto another that is better than she.

اگر بادشاہ کو منظور ہو تو وہ اعلان کریں کہ وشتی ملکہ کو پھر کبھی اخسویرس بادشاہ کے حضور آنے کی اجازت نہیں۔ اور لازم ہے کہ یہ اعلان فارس اور مادی کے قوانین میں درج کیا جائے تاکہ اُسے منسوخ نہ کیا جا سکے۔ پھر بادشاہ کسی اَور کو ملکہ کا عُہدہ دیں، ایسی عورت کو جو زیادہ لائق ہو۔

And when the king's decree which he shall make shall be published throughout all his empire, (for it is great,) all the wives shall give to their husbands honour, both to great and small.

جب اعلان پوری سلطنت میں کیا جائے گا تو تمام عورتیں اپنے شوہروں کی عزت کریں گی، خواہ وہ چھوٹے ہوں یا بڑے۔“

And the saying pleased the king and the princes; and the king did according to the word of Memucan:

یہ بات بادشاہ اور اُس کے شرفا کو پسند آئی۔ مموکان کے مشورے کے مطابق

For he sent letters into all the king's provinces, into every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language, that every man should bear rule in his own house, and that it should be published according to the language of every people.

اخسویرس نے سلطنت کے تمام صوبوں میں خط بھیجے۔ ہر صوبے کو اُس کے اپنے طرزِ تحریر میں اور ہر قوم کو اُس کی اپنی زبان میں خط مل گیا کہ ہر مرد اپنے گھر کا سرپرست ہے اور کہ ہر خاندان میں شوہر کی زبان بولی جائے۔
