Judges 16

Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her.

Engang drog Samson til Gasa; der fikk han se en skjøge og gikk inn til henne.

And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come hither. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him.

Da folkene i Gasa fikk høre at Samson var kommet dit, omringet de ham og lurte på ham hele natten ved byporten, men holdt sig ellers rolig hele natten og sa: Når det lysner mot dag, vil vi slå ham ihjel.

And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron.

Samson blev liggende til midnatt. Ved midnattstid stod han op; han grep fatt i byportens dører og i begge portstolpene og rykket dem op sammen med bommen, la dem på sine skuldrer og bar dem op på toppen av det fjell som ligger midt imot Hebron.

And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.

Siden fattet han kjærlighet til en kvinne i Sorek-dalen, som hette Dalila.

And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him: and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.

Da kom filistrenes høvdinger op til henne og sa til henne: Lokk ham til å si dig hvori hans store styrke ligger, og hvorledes vi kan rå med ham og binde ham, så vi får bukt med ham! Så vil vi gi dig hver elleve hundre sekel sølv.

And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee.

Så sa Dalila til Samson: Kjære, la mig få vite hvori din store styrke ligger, og hvorledes du kan bindes, så en får bukt med dig!

And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.

Samson svarte: Dersom en binder mig med syv friske strenger som ikke er blitt tørre, så blir jeg svak og er som et annet menneske.

Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green withs which had not been dried, and she bound him with them.

Da kom filistrenes høvdinger op til henne med syv friske strenger som ikke var blitt tørre; dem bandt hun ham med,

Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he brake the withs, as a thread of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known.

og i kammeret hadde hun folk sittende og lure. Så sa hun til ham: Filistrene er over dig, Samson! Da sønderrev han strengene som en tråd av stry brister når den kommer ilden for nær, og ingen fikk vite hvorledes det hadde sig med hans styrke.

And Delilah said unto Samson, Behold, thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, I pray thee, wherewith thou mightest be bound.

Da sa Dalila til Samson: Du har narret mig og løiet for mig! Kjære, la mig nu få vite hvorledes du kan bindes!

And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.

Han svarte: Dersom en binder mig med nye rep som aldri har vært brukt til noget, så blir jeg svak og er som et annet menneske.

Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And there were liers in wait abiding in the chamber. And he brake them from off his arms like a thread.

Da tok Dalila nye rep og bandt ham med dem og sa til ham: Filistrene er over dig, Samson! Og i kammeret satt der folk og lurte. Men han rev repene av sine armer som tråder.

And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web.

Da sa Dalila til Samson: Hittil har du narret mig og løiet for mig! La mig nu få vite hvorledes du kan bindes! Han svarte henne: Når du vever de syv fletter på mitt hode sammen med renningen i veven.

And she fastened it with the pin, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awaked out of his sleep, and went away with the pin of the beam, and with the web.

Så slo hun dem fast med naglen og sa til ham: Filistrene er over dig, Samson! Og han våknet av sin søvn og rev ut både vevnaglen og renningen.

And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth.

Da sa hun til ham: Hvorledes kan du si at du elsker mig når du ikke har nogen tiltro til mig? Nu har du narret mig tre ganger og ikke sagt mig hvori din store styrke ligger.

And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death;

Da hun nu hver dag plaget ham med sine ord og trengte sterkt inn på ham, blev han så lei av sig at han næsten kunde dø,

That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother's womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.

og så åpnet han hele sitt hjerte for henne og sa til henne: Det er ikke kommet rakekniv på mitt hode, for jeg har vært en Guds nasireer fra mors liv; dersom jeg blir raket, viker min styrke fra mig; jeg blir svak og er som alle andre mennesker.

And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand.

Da skjønte Dalila at han hadde åpnet hele sitt hjerte for henne; hun sendte bud efter filistrenes høvdinger og lot si: Kom nu op, for han har åpnet hele sitt hjerte for mig. Da kom filistrenes høvdinger op til henne og hadde pengene med sig.

And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.

Så lot hun ham sove inn på sine knær og kalte på en mann og lot de syv fletter på hans hode rake av; og hun begynte å plage ham, og hans styrke vek fra ham.

And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.

Og hun sa: Filistrene er over dig, Samson! Da våknet han op av sin søvn og sa: Jeg skal nok gjøre mig fri denne gang som før og slite mig løs. Men han visste ikke at Herren var veket fra ham.

But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.

Da grep filistrene ham og stakk hans øine ut; og de førte ham ned til Gasa og bandt ham med to kobberlenker, og han malte korn i fangehuset.

Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven.

Men med det samme han var raket, begynte håret på hans hode å vokse.

Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god, and to rejoice: for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand.

Så samledes filistrenes høvdinger for å bære frem et stort slaktoffer for sin gud Dagon og for å holde fest; for de sa: Vår gud har gitt Samson, vår fiende, i vår hånd.

And when the people saw him, they praised their god: for they said, Our god hath delivered into our hands our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us.

Og da folket fikk se ham, lovet de sin gud og sa: Vår gud har gitt vår fiende i vår hånd, han som herjet vårt land og slo så mange av oss ihjel.

And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars.

Mens de nu var glade og vel til mote, sa de: Hent Samson hit forat han kan leke for oss! Da hentet de Samson ut av fangehuset, og han lekte for dem, og de stilte ham mellem stolpene.

And Samson said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house standeth, that I may lean upon them.

Da sa Samson til den gutt som holdt ham ved hånden: Slipp mig, og la mig få ta i stolpene som huset hviler på, og støtte mig til dem!

Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were upon the roof about three thousand men and women, that beheld while Samson made sport.

Men huset var fullt av menn og kvinner, alle filistrenes høvdinger var der, og på taket var det omkring tre tusen menn og kvinner, som så på at Samson lekte.

And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.

Da ropte Samson til Herren og sa: Herre, Herre! Kom mig i hu og styrk mig bare denne ene gang, min Gud, så jeg kan få hevne mig på filistrene for ett av mine to øine!

And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left.

Så grep Samson om de to mellemste stolper, som huset hvilte på, og trykte sig inn til dem; den ene grep han om med sin høire, og den andre med sin venstre hånd.

And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life.

Og Samson sa: La mig dø sammen med filistrene! Så bøide han sig fremover av all sin makt; da falt huset sammen over høvdingene og over alt folket som var der inne, og de som han drepte i sin død, var flere enn de han hadde drept i sitt liv.

Then his brethren and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the buryingplace of Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years.

Men hans brødre og hele hans fars hus drog ned og tok ham og førte ham hjem og la ham i Manoahs, hans fars grav mellem Sora og Estaol. Han hadde da vært dommer i Israel i tyve år.
