Isaiah 17

The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

Utsagn om Damaskus. Se, Damaskus skal ophøre å være en by og bli til en grusdynge.

The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

Aroers byer blir forlatt; hjorder tar dem i eie og leirer sig der, og der er ingen som skremmer dem.

The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith the LORD of hosts.

Og det skal være slutt med festninger i Efra'im og med kongedømmet i Damaskus og med resten av Syria; det skal gå med dem som med Israels barns herlighet, sier Herren, hærskarenes Gud.

And in that day it shall come to pass, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.

På den tid skal Jakobs herlighet bli ringe, og folkets fete kropp skal tæres bort.

And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the corn, and reapeth the ears with his arm; and it shall be as he that gathereth ears in the valley of Rephaim.

Det skal gå som når en griper om det stående korn, og hans arm skjærer aksene, og det skal gå som når en sanker aks i Refa'im-dalen.

Yet gleaning grapes shall be left in it, as the shaking of an olive tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost fruitful branches thereof, saith the LORD God of Israel.

Bare en efterhøst skal bli tilovers der, som når de slår ned oliven; to, tre bær øverst i toppen, fire, fem på grenene av frukttreet, sier Herren, Israels Gud.

At that day shall a man look to his Maker, and his eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.

På den tid skal mennesket vende sitt blikk til sin skaper, og hans øine skal se op til Israels Hellige;

And he shall not look to the altars, the work of his hands, neither shall respect that which his fingers have made, either the groves, or the images.

han skal ikke vende sitt blikk til de alter hans hender har gjort, og ikke se på det hans fingrer har laget, hverken på Astarte-støttene eller på solstøttene.

In that day shall his strong cities be as a forsaken bough, and an uppermost branch, which they left because of the children of Israel: and there shall be desolation.

På den tid skal Israels faste byer bli som de forlatte steder i skogen og på høidene, de som blev forlatt for Israels barns skyld, og landet skal bli til en ørken.

Because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips:

For du glemte din frelses Gud, og din styrkes klippe kom du ikke i hu; derfor planter du herlige haver og setter fremmede ranker i dem.

In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish: but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.

På den dag du planter, gjerder du om dem, og om morgenen får du din plantning til å blomstre; men avlingen blir borte på sykdommens dag, og smerten er ulægelig.

Woe to the multitude of many people, which make a noise like the noise of the seas; and to the rushing of nations, that make a rushing like the rushing of mighty waters!

Ve! Det bruser av mange folk! Det bruser som havet. Det larmer av folkeslag! Det larmer som mektige vann larmer.

The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.

Ja, det larmer av folkeslag som mange vann larmer; men han truer dem, og de flyr langt bort; de jages avsted som agner for vinden oppe på fjellene og som støvhvirvel for stormen.

And behold at eveningtide trouble; and before the morning he is not. This is the portion of them that spoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.

Ved aftens tid, se, da er det forferdelse; før morgenen er de ikke mere til. Således går det dem som plyndrer oss, dette er deres lodd som raner hos oss.
