Esther 5

Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king's house, over against the king's house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, over against the gate of the house.

På den tredje dag klædde Ester sig i kongelig skrud og stilte sig i den indre gård til kongens hus, midt for kongens hus, og kongen satt på sin kongetrone i kongens hus, midt imot døren til huset.

And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre.

Da nu kongen så dronning Ester stå i gården, fant hun nåde for hans øine; kongen rakte ut gullstaven som han hadde i hånden, mot Ester, og Ester gikk frem og rørte ved enden av staven.

Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom.

Og kongen sa til henne: Hvad har du på hjerte, dronning Ester, og hvad er ditt ønske? Var det enn halvdelen av riket, skal du få det.

And Esther answered, If it seem good unto the king, let the king and Haman come this day unto the banquet that I have prepared for him.

Ester svarte: Tykkes det kongen godt, vilde jeg gjerne at kongen og Haman idag skulde komme til det gjestebud jeg har stelt til for ham!

Then the king said, Cause Haman to make haste, that he may do as Esther hath said. So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

Da sa kongen: Skynd eder og hent Haman, så Ester kan få sitt ønske opfylt! Så kom da kongen og Haman til det gjestebud Ester hadde stelt til.

And the king said unto Esther at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed.

Mens de satt og drakk vin, sa kongen til Ester: Hvad er din bønn? Den skal tilståes dig. Og hvad er ditt ønske? Var det enn halvdelen av riket, skal det opfylles.

Then answered Esther, and said, My petition and my request is;

Ester svarte: Min bønn og mitt ønske er:

If I have found favour in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my petition, and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I shall prepare for them, and I will do to morrow as the king hath said.

Har jeg funnet nåde for kongens øine, og tykkes det kongen godt å tilstå mig min bønn og å opfylle mitt ønske, så må kongen og Haman komme til det gjestebud jeg vil stelle til for dem! Imorgen vil jeg da gjøre som kongen sier.

Then went Haman forth that day joyful and with a glad heart: but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king's gate, that he stood not up, nor moved for him, he was full of indignation against Mordecai.

Haman gikk den dag glad og vel til mote derfra, men da han fikk se Mordekai i kongens port, og at han hverken reiste sig eller rørte sig for ham, blev han full av vrede mot Mordekai.

Nevertheless Haman refrained himself: and when he came home, he sent and called for his friends, and Zeresh his wife.

Men han holdt sig rolig og gikk hjem; så sendte han bud efter sine venner og sin hustru Seres

And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things wherein the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.

og fortalte dem om sin rikdom og herlighet og om sine mange sønner og likeledes alt om hvorledes kongen hadde gjort ham stor, og hvorledes han hadde ophøiet ham over fyrstene og kongens tjenere.

Haman said moreover, Yea, Esther the queen did let no man come in with the king unto the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and to morrow am I invited unto her also with the king.

Og Haman sa: Heller ikke lot dronning Ester nogen annen enn mig komme med kongen til det gjestebud hun hadde stelt til, og også til imorgen er jeg innbudt av henne sammen med kongen.

Yet all this availeth me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king's gate.

Men alt dette er mig ikke nok all den stund jeg ser jøden Mordekai sitte i kongens port.

Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high, and to morrow speak thou unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go thou in merrily with the king unto the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made.

Da sa hans hustru Seres og alle hans venner til ham: La dem gjøre en galge i stand; femti alen høi, og be imorgen kongen om at Mordekai må bli hengt i den; så kan du gå glad med kongen til gjestebudet! Dette råd syntes Haman godt om, og han lot gjøre galgen i stand.
