Genesis 48

And it came to pass after these things, that one told Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick: and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

مدّتی بعد به ‌یوسف‌ خبر رسید كه‌ پدرش ‌بیمار است‌. پس ‌او دو پسرش‌، افرایم ‌و منسی را برداشت ‌و به ‌دیدن‌ پدرش ‌رفت‌.

And one told Jacob, and said, Behold, thy son Joseph cometh unto thee: and Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed.

وقتی یعقوب‌ شنید كه ‌پسرش ‌یوسف ‌به‌ دیدن ‌او آمده‌ است‌، تمام‌ قدرت ‌خود را به كار برد و روی تخت ‌خود نشست‌.

And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,

یعقوب‌ به ‌یوسف‌ گفت‌: «خدای قادر مطلق‌، در لوز كنعان‌ به‌ من‌ ظاهر شد و مرا بركت‌ داد.

And said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession.

خداوند به‌ من ‌فرمود: 'من ‌به ‌تو فرزندان‌ بسیار خواهم‌ داد و از فرزندان ‌تو قومهای بسیار به وجود خواهم‌ آورد. من‌ این ‌زمین‌ را به‌ فرزندان‌ تو برای همیشه‌ تا ابد به‌ ارث‌ خواهم ‌داد.'

And now thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, which were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine.

«حالا دو پسر تو كه‌ قبل ‌از آمدن ‌من ‌به‌ مصر برای تو به دنیا آمدند، مال من ‌خواهند بود. افرایم ‌و منسی مثل‌ رئوبین‌ و شمعون‌ پسران ‌من‌ هستند و در این ‌وعده ‌سهیم‌ می‌باشند.

And thy issue, which thou begettest after them, shall be thine, and shall be called after the name of their brethren in their inheritance.

امّا پسرانی كه ‌بعد از این ‌دو به دنیا بیایند مال‌ تو می‌باشند و ارث‌ آنها از طریق ‌افرایم‌ و منسی به ‌ایشان‌ خواهد رسید.

And as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when yet there was but a little way to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way of Ephrath; the same is Beth–lehem.

این‌ به‌خاطر ‌مادرت ‌راحیل‌ است‌. هنگامی كه‌ من ‌از بین‌النهرین‌ می‌آمدم‌، در سر راه‌ كنعان ‌درحالی‌که ‌تا افراته‌ فاصلهٔ زیادی نبود، راحیل‌ مرد و من ‌او را در كنار راه‌ افراته كه‌ امروز بیت‌لحم ‌نامیده ‌می‌شود به‌ خاک ‌سپردم‌.»

And Israel beheld Joseph's sons, and said, Who are these?

وقتی یعقوب ‌پسران‌ یوسف‌ را دید، پرسید: «این ‌پسرها كیستند؟»

And Joseph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom God hath given me in this place. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them.

یوسف‌ جواب‌ داد: «اینها پسران‌ من‌ هستند كه‌ خدا در مصر به ‌من ‌داده ‌است‌.» یعقوب‌ گفت‌: «آنها را پیش‌ من ‌بیاور تا برای ایشان ‌دعای بركت‌ بخوانم‌.»

Now the eyes of Israel were dim for age, so that he could not see. And he brought them near unto him; and he kissed them, and embraced them.

چشمان ‌یعقوب ‌به‌ علّت ‌پیری تار شده ‌بود و نمی‌توانست‌ خوب ‌ببیند. یوسف ‌پسرها را پیش ‌او آورد. یعقوب‌ آنها را بغل‌ كرد و بوسید.

And Israel said unto Joseph, I had not thought to see thy face: and, lo, God hath shewed me also thy seed.

یعقوب ‌به ‌یوسف ‌گفت‌: «هرگز فكر نمی‌كردم‌ دوباره‌ تو را ببینم‌. امّا حالا خدا حتّی فرزندان‌ تو را هم‌ به ‌من‌ نشان‌ داده ‌است‌.»

And Joseph brought them out from between his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the earth.

سپس ‌یوسف‌ آن ‌دو را از روی زانوهای یعقوب برداشت ‌و در مقابل‌ وی‌ سجده‌ كرد.

And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel's left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel's right hand, and brought them near unto him.

یوسف‌، افرایم‌ را در طرف ‌چپ ‌و منسی را در طرف ‌راست‌ یعقوب ‌قرار داد.

And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh's head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh was the firstborn.

امّا یعقوب‌ دست ‌خود را طوری دراز كرد كه ‌دست ‌راستش ‌را بر سر افرایم ‌كه‌ كوچكتر بود و دست ‌چپش ‌را روی سر منسی كه‌ بزرگتر بود گذاشت‌.

And he blessed Joseph, and said, God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day,

و سپس ‌برای یوسف ‌دعای بركت‌ خواند و گفت‌: «خدا، همان‌ خدایی كه ‌پدرانم ‌ابراهیم ‌و اسحاق ‌او را بندگی كردند، این‌ دو پسر را بركت‌ دهد. خدا -‌همان خدایی كه‌ تا امروز مرا رهبری كرده ‌است- ایشان‌ را بركت‌ دهد.

The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

همان ‌فرشته‌ای كه‌ مرا از تمام‌ سختی‌ها و مشكلاتم ‌نجات ‌داد، ایشان‌ را بركت‌ دهد تا نام ‌من‌ و نام ‌پدرانم ‌ابراهیم‌ و اسحاق‌ به وسیلهٔ این ‌پسران‌ پایدار بماند و تا آنها فرزندان ‌بسیار داشته ‌باشند.»

And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head unto Manasseh's head.

یوسف ‌وقتی دید كه ‌پدرش ‌دست ‌راست‌ خود را روی سر افرایم‌ گذاشته ‌است، ‌ناراحت‌ شد. پس‌ دست ‌پدرش‌ را برداشت‌ تا از روی سر افرایم‌ روی سر منسی بگذارد.

And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this is the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head.

به‌ پدرش‌ گفت‌: «این ‌پسر بزرگتر است‌، دست ‌راست‌ خود را روی سر او بگذار.»

And his father refused, and said, I know it, my son, I know it: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.

پدرش‌ از این‌كار خودداری كرد و گفت‌: «می‌دانم‌، پسرم‌، من‌ می‌دانم‌. نسل‌ منسی هم ‌قوم‌ بزرگی خواهد شد. امّا برادر كوچكش‌ از او بزرگتر خواهد شد و نسل ‌او ملّتی بزرگ‌ خواهد گردید.»

And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh.

پس ‌در آن‌ روز یعقوب ‌ایشان ‌را بركت‌ داد و گفت‌: «بنی‌اسرائیل‌ موقع‌ بركت‌، اسم‌ شما را به ‌زبان ‌خواهد آورد. آنها خواهند گفت‌ خدا شما را مثل‌ افرایم‌ و منسی بگرداند.» به ‌این‌ ترتیب ‌افرایم ‌را بر منسی ترجیح ‌داد.

And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die: but God shall be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers.

سپس‌ یعقوب ‌به ‌یوسف‌ گفت‌: «همان‌طور كه ‌می‌بینی من ‌به‌ مرگ ‌نزدیک ‌شده‌ام‌. امّا خدا با شما خواهد بود و شما را به ‌سرزمین ‌اجدادتان ‌برمی‌گرداند.

Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.

این ‌فقط‌ برای توست ‌نه‌ برای برادرانت‌. من‌ شكیم‌ را كه‌ منطقهٔ حاصلخیزی است ‌و آن را با شمشیر و كمان‌ خودم‌ از اموریان‌ گرفته‌ام ‌به ‌تو می‌بخشم‌.»
