Le destructeur marche contre toi. Garde la forteresse! Veille sur la route! affermis tes reins! Recueille toute ta force!...

He that dasheth in pieces is come up before thy face: keep the munition, watch the way, make thy loins strong, fortify thy power mightily.

Car l'Eternel rétablit la gloire de Jacob Et la gloire d'Israël, Parce que les pillards les ont pillés Et ont détruit leurs ceps....

For the LORD hath turned away the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel: for the emptiers have emptied them out, and marred their vine branches.

Les boucliers de ses héros sont rouges, Les guerriers sont vêtus de pourpre; Avec le fer qui étincelle apparaissent les chars, Au jour qu'il a fixé pour la bataille, Et les lances sont agitées.

The shield of his mighty men is made red, the valiant men are in scarlet: the chariots shall be with flaming torches in the day of his preparation, and the fir trees shall be terribly shaken.

Les chars s'élancent dans la campagne, Se précipitent sur les places; A les voir, on dirait des flambeaux, Ils courent comme des éclairs...

The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall justle one against another in the broad ways: they shall seem like torches, they shall run like the lightnings.

Il se souvient de ses vaillants hommes, Mais ils chancellent dans leur marche; On se hâte vers les murs, Et l'on se prépare à la défense....

He shall recount his worthies: they shall stumble in their walk; they shall make haste to the wall thereof, and the defence shall be prepared.

Les portes des fleuves sont ouvertes, Et le palais s'écroule!...

The gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved.

C'en est fait: elle est mise à nu, elle est emmenée; Ses servantes gémissent comme des colombes, Et se frappent la poitrine.

And Huzzab shall be led away captive, she shall be brought up, and her maids shall lead her as with the voice of doves, tabering upon their breasts.

Ninive était jadis comme un réservoir plein d'eau.... Les voilà qui fuient.... Arrêtez! arrêtez!... Mais nul ne se retourne....

But Nineveh is of old like a pool of water: yet they shall flee away. Stand, stand, shall they cry; but none shall look back.

Pillez l'argent! pillez l'or! Il y a des trésors sans fin, Des richesses en objets précieux de toute espèce.

Take ye the spoil of silver, take the spoil of gold: for there is none end of the store and glory out of all the pleasant furniture.

On pille, on dévaste, on ravage! Et les coeurs sont abattus, Les genoux chancellent, Tous les reins souffrent, Tous les visages pâlissent.

She is empty, and void, and waste: and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and much pain is in all loins, and the faces of them all gather blackness.

Qu'est devenu ce repaire de lions, Ce pâturage des lionceaux, Où se retiraient le lion, la lionne, le petit du lion, Sans qu'il y eût personne pour les troubler?

Where is the dwelling of the lions, and the feedingplace of the young lions, where the lion, even the old lion, walked, and the lion's whelp, and none made them afraid?

Le lion déchirait pour ses petits, Etranglait pour ses lionnes; Il remplissait de proie ses antres, De dépouilles ses repaires.

The lion did tear in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with ravin.

Voici, j'en veux à toi, dit l'Eternel des armées; Je réduirai tes chars en fumée, L'épée dévorera tes lionceaux, J'arracherai du pays ta proie, Et l'on n'entendra plus la voix de tes messagers.

Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.
