Isaiah 53

مردم در جواب می‌گویند: «چه کسی می‌توانست آنچه را که ما اکنون شنیدیم، باور کند؟ چه کسی می‌توانست در تمام این چیزها قدرت خداوند را ببیند؟

Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?

ارادهٔ خداوند بر آن بود که بندهٔ او مثل نهالی در زمین خشک رشد کند. او نه زیبایی و نه اُبهتی داشت که مردم به او توجّه کنند، و نه جذابیّتی که توجّه دیگران را جلب کند.

For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

ما او را خوار شمردیم و طرد کردیم، و او متحمّل رنج و درد شد. کسی نمی‌خواست حتّی به او نگاه کند، ما او را نادیده گرفتیم، مثل ‌اینکه اصلاً وجود نداشت.

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

«او متحمّل مجازاتی شد که حقِّ ما بود، و او دردهایی را تحمّل کرد که می‌بایست ما تحّمل می‌کردیم. و ما پنداشتیم که درد و رنج و زحمتهای او مجازاتی از جانب خدا بود.

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

امّا به‌خاطر گناهان ما، او مجروح شد و به‌خاطر شرارتهای ما، او مضروب گردید. و به‌خاطر دردی که او متحمّل شد، شفا یافتیم و به‌خاطر ضربه‌هایی که او تحمّل کرد، سالم شدیم.

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

همهٔ ما مثل گوسفندان گمشده بودیم و هریک از ما به راه خود می‌رفت. خداوند گناه ما را به حساب او آورد، و او به جای ما متحمّل آن مجازات شد.

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

«با او، با خشونت رفتار شد، امّا او با فروتنی آن را تحمّل کرد. مانند برّه‌ای که به کشتارگاه می‌برند، و مانند گوسفندی که در حال پشم‌چینی ساکت است، او دهان خود را نگشود.

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

او را ظالمانه گرفتند، محکوم کردند و به پای مرگ بردند، و هیچ‌کس اعتنایی به سرنوشت او نداشت. او به‌خاطر گناهان قوم ما کشته شد.

He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

او را در مقبرهٔ شریران و در کنار دولتمندان دفن کردند، هرچند که او هیچ‌وقت مرتکب جرمی نشده بود و هیچ ناراستی در دهانش نبود.»

And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

خداوند می‌گوید: «این ارادهٔ من بود که او متحمّل چنین رنجی بشود. او برای آوردن بخشش و آمرزش قربانی شد به این دلیل زندگی او طولانی خواهد بود و او نوادهٔ خود را خواهد دید. و به وسیلهٔ او ارادهٔ من، که منتهی به مسرّت است، اجرا خواهد شد.

Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

بعد از تحمّل یک زندگی پررنج، او ثمرهٔ مشقت خود را خواهد دید؛ او خواهد دانست که درد و رنج او بیهوده نبوده است. بندهٔ صادق من که از او خشنودم، دردهای مردم زیادی را تحمّل خواهد کرد. و من به‌خاطر او، آنها را می‌بخشم.

He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

بنابراین من مقامی عالی، و جایگاهی میان بزرگان و صاحبان قدرت، به او خواهم داد. او جان خود را با رضایت از دست داد و به سرنوشت شریران مبتلا شد. او جای گناهکاران را گرفت واز خدا خواست تا آنها آمرزیده شوند.»

Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
