Hosea 10

قوم اسرائیل مانند تاک پُر از انگور است. هرقدر ثمرشان زیاد می‌شود، به همان اندازه قربانگاههای بیشتری می‌سازند و هرقدر که محصولات زمینشان فروان گردد، ستونهای مقدّس سنگی زیباتری برای پرستش می‌سازند.

Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images.

دلهای آنها پر از فریب است و اینک باید سزای گناه خود را ببینند. خداوند قربانگاههای ایشان را ویران می‌کند و بُتهای آنها را از بین می‌برد.

Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images.

آنها بزودی خواهند گفت: «ما پادشاه نداریم، زیرا از خداوند نترسیدیم، امّا پادشاه چه کاری می‌توانست برای ما بکند؟»

For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the LORD; what then should a king do to us?

آنها حرفهای بی‌جا می‌زنند، قسم دروغ می‌خورند و عهد و پیمانشان همه دروغ است، بنابراین عدالت چون گیاهی زهرآگین در زمین شخم زده، خواهد رُست.

They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.

اهالی سامره می‌ترسند که مبادا به گاو طلایی بیت آون آسیبی برسد. مردم و کاهنان بت‌پرست آن به‌خاطر جلال از دست رفتهٔ بت خود شیون می‌کنند و ماتم می‌گیرند.

The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Beth–aven: for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof that rejoiced on it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it.

بت ایشان به آشور برده می‌شود تا آن را به امپراتور بزرگ آنجا هدیه بدهند. افرایم شرمنده می‌شود و اسرائیل به‌خاطر درخواست کمک از بت، خجل و رسوا می‌گردد.

It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.

پادشاه سامره مثل کفِ روی آب نابود می‌‌شود.

As for Samaria, her king is cut off as the foam upon the water.

پرستشگاههای آون، جایی‌که مردم اسرائیل بت‌پرستی می‌کنند از بین می‌روند و در قربانگاههای آنها خار و خس می‌روید. مردم به کوهها و تپّه‌ها می‌گویند: «ما را پنهان کنید و ما را بپوشانید.»

The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.

خداوند می‌فرماید: «ای قوم اسرائیل، شما از زمان اقامت در جبعه تا به حال گناه کرده‌اید و به گناه خود ادامه داده‌اید. آیا کسانی‌که در جبعه دست به گناه زدند، در جنگ از بین نرفتند؟

O Israel, thou hast sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood: the battle in Gibeah against the children of iniquity did not overtake them.

پس من علیه این قوم گناهکار برمی‌خیزم و آنها را تنبیه می‌کنم. اقوام دیگر را به جنگ آنها می‌فرستم تا آنها به‌خاطر تمام گناهانی که مرتکب شده‌اند، مجازات شوند.

It is in my desire that I should chastise them; and the people shall be gathered against them, when they shall bind themselves in their two furrows.

«اسرائیل مانند گوسالهٔ تربیت شده، به کوبیدن خرمن علاقه داشت و یوغ سنگینی برگردن ظریف او گذاشته نشده بود، امّا حالا تصمیم گرفته‌ام که او را برای کارهای سخت‌تر آماده سازم. یهودا باید شیار کند و اسرائیل زمین را بیل بزند.

And Ephraim is as an heifer that is taught, and loveth to tread out the corn; but I passed over upon her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to ride; Judah shall plow, and Jacob shall break his clods.

پس تخم عدالت بکارید تا محصول محبّت پایدار درو کنید. زمین سخت دلهای خود را نرم سازید، زیرا اکنون وقت آن است که طالب خداوند باشید تا او نیز باران رحمت و عدالت خود را بر شما بباراند.

Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.

امّا شما تخم بدی و شرارت را کاشتید و محصول ظلم و بی‌انصافی را درو کردید و ثمرهٔ دروغهایتان را خوردید. «زیرا شما به قوّت و تعداد جنگجویان خود تکیه کردید،

Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.

جنگ مردم شما را دربر می‌گیرد و همهٔ دژهای شما ویران خواهند شد. همان‌گونه که شلمان شهر بیت اربیل را در جنگ ویران کرد و مادران و فرزندانشان را کشت.

Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be spoiled, as Shalman spoiled Beth–arbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon her children.

ای مردم بیت‌ئیل، به‌خاطر کثرت گناهانتان شما هم به همین سرنوشت گرفتار می‌شوید و در همان ابتدای جنگ، پادشاه اسرائیل کشته خواهد شد.»

So shall Beth–el do unto you because of your great wickedness: in a morning shall the king of Israel utterly be cut off.
