Proverbs 26

Sự vinh hiển không xứng cho kẻ ngu muội, Như tuyết trong mùa hạ, như mưa trong mùa gặt.

As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.

Như chim sẻ bay đi đây đó, như con én liệng đi, Lời rủa sả vô cớ cũng vậy, nó chẳng hề xảy đến.

As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.

Roi nẹt dùng cho ngựa, hàm thiết để cho lừa, Còn roi vọt dành cho lưng kẻ ngu muội.

A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool's back.

Chớ đáp với kẻ ngu si tùy sự ngu dại nó, E con giống như nó chăng.

Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.

Hãy đáp với kẻ ngu si tùy sự ngu dại nó, Kẻo nó khôn ngoan theo mắt nó chăng.

Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

Kẻ nào cậy kẻ ngu muội đem báo tin, Chặt chơn mình, và uống lấy sự tổn hại.

He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off the feet, and drinketh damage.

As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.

Câu châm ngôn ở nơi miệng kẻ ngu muội, Khác nào một cái gai đâm vào tay người say rượu.

As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

Ai mướn người ngu muội và kẻ khách đi qua đường, Giống như một lính xạ tên làm thương mọi người.

The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.

Kẻ ngu muội làm lại việc ngu dại mình, Khác nào con chó đã mửa ra, rồi liếm lại.

As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.

Con có thấy người nào khôn ngoan theo mắt nó chăng? Còn có sự trông cậy cho kẻ ngu muội hơn là cho nó.

Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

Kẻ biếng nhác nói: Có con sư tử ngoài đường; Một con sư tử ở trong đường phố.

The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.

Kẻ biếng nhác lăn trở trên giường mình, Khác nào cửa xây trên bản lề nó.

As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed.

Kẻ biếng nhác thò tay mình vào trong dĩa, Lấy làm mệt nhọc mà đem nó lên miệng.

The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth.

Kẻ biếng nhác tự nghĩ mình khôn ngoan Hơn bảy người đáp lại cách có lý.

The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.

Kẻ nào đi qua đường mà nổi giận về cuộc cãi lẫy không can đến mình, Khác nào kẻ nắm con chó nơi vành tai.

He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.

Người nào phỉnh gạt kẻ lân cận mình, Rồi nói rằng: Tôi chơi mà!

As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,

Khác nào kẻ điên cuồng ném than lửa, Cây tên, và sự chết.

So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?

Lửa tắt tại thiếu củi; Khi chẳng có ai thèo lẻo cuộc tranh cạnh bèn nguôi.

Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.

Than chụm cho than đỏ, và củi để chụm lửa; Người hay tranh cạnh xui nóng cãi cọ cũng vậy.

As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.

Lời kẻ thèo lẻo giống như vật thực ngon, Vào thấu đến tận gan ruột.

The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

Môi miệng sốt sắng và lòng độc ác, Khác nào bình gốm bọc vàng bạc pha.

Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.

Kẻ nào ghen ghét, dùng môi miệng nói giả đò, Nhưng trong lòng nó nuôi sự gian lận;

He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;

Khi nó nói ngọt nhạt, thì chớ tin; Vì trong lòng nó có bảy sự gớm ghiếc.

When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.

Dầu sự ghen ghét ẩn giấu trong tuồng giả bộ, Sự gian ác nó sẽ bị lộ ra nơi hội chúng.

Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation.

Ai đào hầm sẽ té xuống đó; Kẻ nào lăn đá, đá sẽ trở đè lại nó.

Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.

Lưỡi giả dối ghét những kẻ nó đã chà nát; Và miệng dua nịnh gây điều bại hoại.

A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
