Nehemiah 1

ذیل میں نحمیاہ بن حکلیاہ کی رپورٹ درج ہے۔ مَیں ارتخشستا بادشاہ کی حکومت کے 20 ویں سال کِسلیو کے مہینے میں سوسن کے قلعے میں تھا

The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,

کہ ایک دن میرا بھائی حنانی مجھ سے ملنے آیا۔ اُس کے ساتھ یہوداہ کے چند ایک آدمی تھے۔ مَیں نے اُن سے پوچھا، ”جو یہودی بچ کر جلاوطنی سے یہوداہ واپس گئے ہیں اُن کا کیا حال ہے؟ اور یروشلم شہر کا کیا حال ہے؟“

That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.

اُنہوں نے جواب دیا، ”جو یہودی بچ کر جلاوطنی سے یہوداہ واپس گئے ہیں اُن کا بہت بُرا اور ذلت آمیز حال ہے۔ یروشلم کی فصیل اب تک زمین بوس ہے، اور اُس کے تمام دروازے راکھ ہو گئے ہیں۔“

And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.

یہ سن کر مَیں بیٹھ کر رونے لگا۔ کئی دن مَیں روزہ رکھ کر ماتم کرتا اور آسمان کے خدا سے دعا کرتا رہا،

And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,

”اے رب، آسمان کے خدا، تُو کتنا عظیم اور مہیب خدا ہے! جو تجھے پیار اور تیرے احکام کی پیروی کرتے ہیں اُن کے ساتھ تُو اپنا عہد قائم رکھتا اور اُن پر مہربانی کرتا ہے۔

And said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:

میری بات سن کر دھیان دے کہ تیرا خادم کس طرح تجھ سے التماس کر رہا ہے۔ دن رات مَیں اسرائیلیوں کے لئے جو تیرے خادم ہیں دعا کرتا ہوں۔ مَیں اقرار کرتا ہوں کہ ہم نے تیرا گناہ کیا ہے۔ اِس میں مَیں اور میرے باپ کا گھرانا بھی شامل ہے۔

Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned.

ہم نے تیرے خلاف نہایت شریر قدم اُٹھائے ہیں، کیونکہ جو احکام اور ہدایات تُو نے اپنے خادم موسیٰ کو دی تھیں ہم اُن کے تابع نہ رہے۔

We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.

لیکن اب وہ کچھ یاد کر جو تُو نے اپنے خادم کو فرمایا، ’اگر تم بےوفا ہو جاؤ تو مَیں تمہیں مختلف قوموں میں منتشر کر دوں گا،

Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations:

لیکن اگر تم میرے پاس واپس آ کر دوبارہ میرے احکام کے تابع ہو جاؤ تو مَیں تمہیں تمہارے وطن میں واپس لاؤں گا، خواہ تم زمین کی انتہا تک کیوں نہ پہنچ گئے ہو۔ مَیں تمہیں اُس جگہ واپس لاؤں گا جسے مَیں نے چن لیا ہے تاکہ میرا نام وہاں سکونت کرے۔‘

But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.

اے رب، یہ لوگ تو تیرے اپنے خادم ہیں، تیری اپنی قوم جسے تُو نے اپنی عظیم قدرت اور قوی ہاتھ سے فدیہ دے کر چھڑایا ہے۔

Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand.

اے رب، اپنے خادم اور اُن تمام خادموں کی التماس سن جو پورے دل سے تیرے نام کا خوف مانتے ہیں۔ جب تیرا خادم آج شہنشاہ کے پاس ہو گا تو اُسے کامیابی عطا کر۔ بخش دے کہ وہ مجھ پر رحم کرے۔“ مَیں نے یہ اِس لئے کہا کہ مَیں شہنشاہ کا ساقی تھا۔

O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king's cupbearer.
