I Kings 19

اخی اب نے ایزبل کو سب کچھ سنایا جو الیاس نے کہا تھا، یہ بھی کہ اُس نے بعل کے نبیوں کو کس طرح تلوار سے مار دیا تھا۔

And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.

تب ایزبل نے قاصد کو الیاس کے پاس بھیج کر اُسے اطلاع دی، ”دیوتا مجھے سخت سزا دیں اگر مَیں کل اِس وقت تک آپ کو اُن نبیوں کی سی سزا نہ دوں۔“

Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.

الیاس سخت ڈر گیا اور اپنی جان بچانے کے لئے بھاگ گیا۔ چلتے چلتے وہ یہوداہ کے شہر بیرسبع تک پہنچ گیا۔ وہاں وہ اپنے نوکر کو چھوڑ کر

And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer–sheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.

آگے ریگستان میں جا نکلا۔ ایک دن کے سفر کے بعد وہ سینک کی جھاڑی کے پاس پہنچ گیا اور اُس کے سائے میں بیٹھ کر دعا کرنے لگا، ”اے رب، مجھے مرنے دے۔ بس اب کافی ہے۔ میری جان لے لے، کیونکہ مَیں اپنے باپ دادا سے بہتر نہیں ہوں۔“

But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

پھر وہ جھاڑی کے سائے میں لیٹ کر سو گیا۔ اچانک ایک فرشتے نے اُسے چھو کر کہا، ”اُٹھ، کھانا کھا لے!“

And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.

جب اُس نے اپنی آنکھیں کھولیں تو دیکھا کہ سرہانے کے قریب کوئلوں پر بنائی گئی روٹی اور پانی کی صراحی پڑی ہے۔ اُس نے روٹی کھائی، پانی پیا اور دوبارہ سو گیا۔

And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.

لیکن رب کا فرشتہ ایک بار پھر آیا اور اُسے ہاتھ لگا کر کہا، ”اُٹھ، کھانا کھا لے، ورنہ آگے کا لمبا سفر تیرے بس کی بات نہیں ہو گی۔“

And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.

تب الیاس نے اُٹھ کر دوبارہ کھانا کھایا اور پانی پیا۔ اِس خوراک نے اُسے اِتنی تقویت دی کہ وہ چالیس دن اور چالیس رات سفر کرتے کرتے اللہ کے پہاڑ حورب یعنی سینا تک پہنچ گیا۔

And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

وہاں وہ رات گزارنے کے لئے ایک غار میں چلا گیا۔ غار میں رب اُس سے ہم کلام ہوا۔ اُس نے پوچھا، ”الیاس، تُو یہاں کیا کر رہا ہے؟“

And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?

الیاس نے جواب دیا، ”مَیں نے رب، آسمانی لشکروں کے خدا کی خدمت کرنے کی سرتوڑ کوشش کی ہے، کیونکہ اسرائیلیوں نے تیرے عہد کو ترک کر دیا ہے۔ اُنہوں نے تیری قربان گاہوں کو گرا کر تیرے نبیوں کو تلوار سے قتل کر دیا ہے۔ مَیں اکیلا ہی بچا ہوں، اور وہ مجھے بھی مار ڈالنے کے درپَے ہیں۔“

And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

جواب میں رب نے فرمایا، ”غار سے نکل کر پہاڑ پر رب کے سامنے کھڑا ہو جا!“ پھر رب وہاں سے گزرا۔ اُس کے آگے آگے بڑی اور زبردست آندھی آئی جس نے پہاڑوں کو چیر کر چٹانوں کو ٹکڑے ٹکڑے کر دیا۔ لیکن رب آندھی میں نہیں تھا۔

And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:

اِس کے بعد زلزلہ آیا، لیکن رب زلزلے میں نہیں تھا۔

And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

زلزلے کے بعد بھڑکتی ہوئی آگ وہاں سے گزری، لیکن رب آگ میں بھی نہیں تھا۔ پھر نرم ہَوا کی دھیمی دھیمی آواز سنائی دی۔ یہ آواز سن کر الیاس نے اپنے چہرے کو چادر سے ڈھانپ لیا اور نکل کر غار کے منہ پر کھڑا ہو گیا۔ ایک آواز اُس سے مخاطب ہوئی، ”الیاس، تُو یہاں کیا کر رہا ہے؟“

And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

الیاس نے جواب دیا، ”مَیں نے رب، آسمانی لشکروں کے خدا کی خدمت کرنے کی سرتوڑ کوشش کی ہے، کیونکہ اسرائیلیوں نے تیرے عہد کو ترک کر دیا ہے۔ اُنہوں نے تیری قربان گاہوں کو گرا کر تیرے نبیوں کو تلوار سے قتل کر دیا ہے۔ مَیں اکیلا ہی بچا ہوں، اور وہ مجھے بھی مار ڈالنے کے درپَے ہیں۔“

And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

رب نے جواب میں کہا، ”ریگستان میں اُس راستے سے ہو کر واپس جا جس نے تجھے یہاں پہنچایا ہے۔ پھر دمشق چلا جا۔ وہاں حزائیل کو تیل سے مسح کر کے شام کا بادشاہ قرار دے۔

And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:

اِسی طرح یاہو بن نِمسی کو مسح کر کے اسرائیل کا بادشاہ قرار دے اور ابیل محولہ کے رہنے والے الیشع بن سافط کو مسح کر کے اپنا جانشین مقرر کر۔

And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel–meholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.

جو حزائیل کی تلوار سے بچ جائے گا اُسے یاہو مار دے گا، اور جو یاہو کی تلوار سے بچ جائے گا اُسے الیشع مار دے گا۔

And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.

لیکن مَیں نے اپنے لئے اسرائیل میں 7,000 افراد کو بچا لیا ہے، اُن تمام لوگوں کو جو اب تک نہ بعل دیوتا کے سامنے جھکے، نہ اُس کے بُت کو بوسہ دیا ہے۔“

Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

الیاس وہاں سے چلا گیا۔ اسرائیل میں واپس آ کر اُسے الیشع بن سافط ملا جو بَیلوں کی بارہ جوڑیوں کی مدد سے ہل چلا رہا تھا۔ خود وہ بارھویں جوڑی کے ساتھ چل رہا تھا۔ الیاس نے اُس کے پاس آ کر اپنی چادر اُس کے کندھوں پر ڈال دی اور رُکے بغیر آگے نکل گیا۔

So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.

الیشع فوراً اپنے بَیلوں کو چھوڑ کر الیاس کے پیچھے بھاگا۔ اُس نے کہا، ”پہلے مجھے اپنے ماں باپ کو بوسہ دے کر خیرباد کہنے دیجئے۔ پھر مَیں آپ کے پیچھے ہو لوں گا۔“ الیاس نے جواب دیا، ”چلیں، واپس جائیں۔ لیکن وہ کچھ یاد رہے جو مَیں نے آپ کے ساتھ کیا ہے۔“

And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?

تب الیشع واپس چلا گیا۔ بَیلوں کی ایک جوڑی کو لے کر اُس نے دونوں کو ذبح کیا۔ ہل چلانے کا سامان اُس نے گوشت پکانے کے لئے جلا دیا۔ جب گوشت تیار تھا تو اُس نے اُسے لوگوں میں تقسیم کر کے اُنہیں کھلا دیا۔ اِس کے بعد الیشع الیاس کے پیچھے ہو کر اُس کی خدمت کرنے لگا۔

And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.
