Numbers 25

Και εμεινεν ο Ισραηλ εν Σιττειμ και ηρχισεν ο λαος να πορνευη μετα των θυγατερων Μωαβ

And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.

αιτινες προσεκαλεσαν τον λαον εις τας θυσιας των θεων αυτων και εφαγεν ο λαος και προσεκυνησε τους θεους αυτων.

And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.

Και προσεκολληθη ο Ισραηλ εις τον Βεελ−φεγωρ και εξηφθη η οργη του Κυριου κατα του Ισραηλ.

And Israel joined himself unto Baal–peor: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel.

Και ειπε Κυριος προς τον Μωυσην, Λαβε παντας τους αρχηγους του λαου και κρεμασον αυτους ενωπιον του Κυριου κατεναντι του ηλιου δια να σηκωθη απο του Ισραηλ η φλογερα οργη του Κυριου.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel.

Και ειπεν ο Μωυσης προς τους κριτας του Ισραηλ, Φονευσατε εκαστος τους ανθρωπους αυτου, τους οσοι προσεκολληθησαν εις τον Βεελ−φεγωρ.

And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baal–peor.

Και ιδου, εις εκ των υιων Ισραηλ ηλθε φερων εις τους αδελφους αυτου γυναικα Μαδιανιτιν, ενωπιον του Μωυσεως και ενωπιον πασης της συναγωγης των υιων Ισραηλ, ενω εκλαιον εν τη θυρα της σκηνης του μαρτυριου.

And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

Και ιδων Φινεες, ο υιος του Ελεαζαρ, υιου του Ααρων του ιερεως, εσηκωθη εκ μεσον της συναγωγης, και λαβων εις την χειρα αυτου δορατιον,

And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;

υπηγε κατοπιν του ανθρωπου του Ισραηλιτου εις την σκηνην και διεπερασεν αμφοτερους, τον τε ανθρωπον τον Ισραηλιτην και την γυναικα δια της κοιλιας αυτης. Και επαυσεν η πληγη απο των υιων Ισραηλ.

And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.

Ησαν δε οι αποθανοντες εν τη πληγη εικοσιτεσσαρες χιλιαδες.

And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.

Και ελαλησε Κυριος προς τον Μωυσην λεγων,

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Ο Φινεες, ο υιος του Ελεαζαρ, υιου Ααρων του ιερεως, απεστρεψε τον θυμον μου απο των υιων Ισραηλ, δειξας ζηλον υπερ εμου μεταξυ αυτων, οθεν δεν εξωλοθρευσα τους υιους Ισραηλ εν τη ζηλοτυπια μου

Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

δια τουτο ειπε, Ιδου, εγω διδω εις αυτον την διαθηκην μου της ειρηνης

Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:

και θελει εισθαι εις αυτον και εις το σπερμα αυτου μετ αυτον διαθηκη ιερατειας αιωνιου διοτι εσταθη ζηλωτης υπερ του Θεου αυτου, και εκαμεν εξιλεωσιν υπερ των υιων Ισραηλ.

And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

Το δε ονομα του Ισραηλιτου του θανατωθεντος εκεινου, οστις εθανατωθη μετα της γυναικος της Μαδιανιτιδος, ητο Ζιμβρι, υιος Σαλου, αρχοντος οικογενειας επισημου μεταξυ των Συμεωνιτων.

Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Simeonites.

Και το ονομα της γυναικος της Μαδιανιτιδος της θανατωθεισης ητο Χασβι, θυγατηρ του Σουρ, αρχηγου λαου, εξ επισημου οικογενειας εν Μαδιαμ.

And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian.

Και ελαλησε Κυριος προς τον Μωυσην λεγων,

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

Πολεμειτε τους Μαδιανιτας και παταξατε αυτους

Vex the Midianites, and smite them:

διοτι αυτοι σας πολεμουσι με τας δολιοτητας αυτων, με τας οποιας σας εδολιευθησαν εις την υποθεσιν του Φεγωρ και εις την υποθεσιν της Χασβι θυγατρος του αρχοντος Μαδιανιτου, της αδελφης αυτων, ητις εθανατωθη εν τη ημερα της πληγης δια την υποθεσιν του Φεγωρ.

For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor's sake.
