Nehemiah 13

Εν τη ημερα εκεινη ανεγνωσθη εν τω βιβλιω του Μωυσεως εις τα ωτα του λαου και ευρεθη γεγραμμενον εν αυτω, οτι οι Αμμωνιται και οι Μωαβιται δεν επρεπε να εισελθωσιν εις την συναγωγην του Θεου εως αιωνος

On that day they read in the book of Moses in the audience of the people; and therein was found written, that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not come into the congregation of God for ever;

διοτι δεν προυπηντησαν τους υιους Ισραηλ μετα αρτου και μετα υδατος, αλλ εμισθωσαν τον Βαλααμ εναντιον αυτων, δια να καταρασθη αυτους πλην ο Θεος ημων ετρεψε την καταραν εις ευλογιαν.

Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them, that he should curse them: howbeit our God turned the curse into a blessing.

Και ως ηκουσαν τον νομον, εχωρισαν απο του Ισραηλ παντα αλλογενη.

Now it came to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated from Israel all the mixed multitude.

Προ τουτου δε Ελιασειβ ο ιερευς, οστις ειχε την επιστασιαν των οικηματων του οικου του Θεου ημων, ειχε συγγενευσει μετα του Τωβια

And before this, Eliashib the priest, having the oversight of the chamber of the house of our God, was allied unto Tobiah:

και ειχεν ετοιμασει δι αυτον μεγα οικημα, οπου προτερον εθετον τας εξ αλφιτων προσφορας, το λιβανιον και τα σκευη και τα δεκατα του σιτου, του οινου και του ελαιου, το διατεταγμενον των Λευιτων και των ψαλτωδων και των πυλωρων και τας προσφορας των ιερεων.

And he had prepared for him a great chamber, where aforetime they laid the meat offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the corn, the new wine, and the oil, which was commanded to be given to the Levites, and the singers, and the porters; and the offerings of the priests.

Πλην εν πασι τουτοις εγω δεν ημην εν Ιερουσαλημ διοτι εν τω τριακοστω δευτερω ετει Αρταξερξου του βασιλεως της Βαβυλωνος ηλθον προς τον βασιλεα και μεθ ημερας τινας εζητησα παρα του βασιλεως,

But in all this time was not I at Jerusalem: for in the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon came I unto the king, and after certain days obtained I leave of the king:

και ηλθον εις Ιερουσαλημ και εμαθον το κακον, το οποιον ο Ελιασειβ εκαμε χαριν του Τωβια, ετοιμασας εις αυτον οικημα εν ταις αυλαις του οικου του Θεου.

And I came to Jerusalem, and understood of the evil that Eliashib did for Tobiah, in preparing him a chamber in the courts of the house of God.

Και δυσηρεστηθην πολυ και ερριψα εξω του οικηματος παντα τα σκευη του οικου του Τωβια.

And it grieved me sore: therefore I cast forth all the household stuff of Tobiah out of the chamber.

Και προσεταξα, και εκαθαρισαν τα οικηματα και επανεφερα εκει τα σκευη του οικου του Θεου, τας εξ αλφιτων προσφορας και το λιβανιον.

Then I commanded, and they cleansed the chambers: and thither brought I again the vessels of the house of God, with the meat offering and the frankincense.

Και εμαθον οτι τα μεριδια των Λευιτων δεν εδοθησαν εις αυτους διοτι οι Λευιται και οι ψαλτωδοι, οι ποιουντες το εργον, εφυγον εκαστος εις τον αγρον αυτου.

And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them: for the Levites and the singers, that did the work, were fled every one to his field.

Και επεπληξα τους προεστωτας και ειπα, Δια τι εγκατελειφθη ο οικος του Θεου; Και εσυναξα αυτους και αποκατεστησα αυτους εις την θεσιν αυτων.

Then contended I with the rulers, and said, Why is the house of God forsaken? And I gathered them together, and set them in their place.

Τοτε εφερε πας ο Ιουδας εις τας αποθηκας το δεκατον του σιτου και του οινου και του ελαιου.

Then brought all Judah the tithe of the corn and the new wine and the oil unto the treasuries.

Και κατεστησα φυλακας επι των αποθηκων, Σελεμιαν τον ιερεα και Σαδωκ τον γραμματεα και εκ των Λευιτων τον Φεδαιαν και πλησιον αυτων, Αναν τον υιον του Ζακχουρ, υιου του Ματθανια διοτι ελογιζοντο πιστοι το εργον δε αυτων ητο να διανεμωσιν εις τους αδελφους αυτων.

And I made treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: and next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah: for they were counted faithful, and their office was to distribute unto their brethren.

Μνησθητι μου, Θεε μου, περι τουτου, και μη εξαλειψης τα ελεη μου, τα οποια εκαμα εις τον οικον του Θεου μου και εις τας τελετας αυτου.

Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and wipe not out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for the offices thereof.

Εν εκειναις ταις ημεραις ειδον τινας εν Ιουδα ληνοπατουντας εν σαββατω και εισφεροντας δραγματα και επιφορτιζοντας επι ονους, και οινον, σταφυλια και συκα και παν ειδος φορτιων, τα οποια εφερον εις Ιερουσαλημ την ημεραν του σαββατου και διεμαρτυρηθην εν τη ημερα, καθ ην επωλουν τροφιμα.

In those days saw I in Judah some treading wine presses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day: and I testified against them in the day wherein they sold victuals.

Και οι Τυριοι, οι κατοικουντες εν αυτη, εφερον ιχθυας και παν ειδος ωνιων και επωλουν εν σαββατω εις τους υιους Ιουδα και εν Ιερουσαλημ.

There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brought fish, and all manner of ware, and sold on the sabbath unto the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem.

Και επεπληξα τους προκριτους του Ιουδα και ειπα προς αυτους, Τι ειναι το πραγμα τουτο το κακον, το οποιον σεις καμνετε, βεβηλουντες την ημεραν του σαββατου;

Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What evil thing is this that ye do, and profane the sabbath day?

δεν εκαμνον ουτως οι πατερες σας, και εφερεν ο Θεος ημων παντα ταυτα τα κακα εφ ημας και επι την πολιν ταυτην; αλλα σεις επαναφερετε οργην επι τον Ισραηλ, βεβηλουντες το σαββατον.

Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath.

Δια τουτο, οτε ηρχιζε να συσκοταζη εις τας πυλας της Ιερουσαλημ προ του σαββατου, ειπα, και εκλεισαν τας πυλας, και προσεταξα να μη ανοιχθωσιν εως μετα το σαββατον και κατεστησα επι τας πυλας τινας εκ των υπηρετων μου, δια να μη εισελθη φορτιον την ημεραν του σαββατου.

And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day.

Και διενυκτερευσαν οι εμποροι και οι πωληται παντος ειδους ωνιων εξω της Ιερουσαλημ απαξ και δις.

So the merchants and sellers of all kind of ware lodged without Jerusalem once or twice.

Τοτε διεμαρτυρηθην εναντιον αυτων και ειπα προς αυτους, Δια τι διανυκτερευετε εμπροσθεν του τειχους; εαν δευτερωσητε, θελω βαλει χειρα επανω σας. Εκτοτε δεν ηλθον εν σαββατω.

Then I testified against them, and said unto them, Why lodge ye about the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth came they no more on the sabbath.

Και ειπα προς τους Λευιτας να καθαριζωνται και να ερχωνται να φυλαττωσι τας πυλας, δια να αγιαζωσι την ημεραν του σαββατου. Μνησθητι μου, Θεε μου, και περι τουτου, και ελεησον με κατα το πληθος του ελεους σου.

And I commanded the Levites that they should cleanse themselves, and that they should come and keep the gates, to sanctify the sabbath day. Remember me, O my God, concerning this also, and spare me according to the greatness of thy mercy.

Προσετι εν ταις ημεραις εκειναις ειδον τους Ιουδαιους τους λαβοντας γυναικας Αζωτιας, Αμμωνιτιδας και Μωαβιτιδας

In those days also saw I Jews that had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab:

και τα τεκνα αυτων λαλουντα ημισυ Αζωτιστι, και μη εξευροντα να λαλησωσιν Ιουδαιστι αλλα κατα την γλωσσαν διαφορων λαων.

And their children spake half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews' language, but according to the language of each people.

Και επεπληξα αυτους και κατηρασθην αυτους, και ερραβδισα τινας εξ αυτων και ετριχομαδησα αυτους, και ωρκισα αυτους εις τον Θεον, λεγων, Δεν θελετε δωσει τας θυγατερας σας εις τους υιους αυτων, και δεν θελετε λαβει εκ των θυγατερων αυτων εις τους υιους σας η εις εαυτους

And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, saying, Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for yourselves.

δεν ημαρτησεν ουτω Σολομων ο βασιλευς του Ισραηλ; καιτοι μεταξυ πολλων εθνων δεν υπηρξε βασιλευς ομοιος αυτου, οστις ητο αγαπωμενος υπο του Θεου αυτου, και εκαμεν αυτον ο Θεος βασιλεα επι παντα τον Ισραηλ αλλ ομως και αυτον αι ξεναι γυναικες εκαμον να αμαρτηση

Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin.

θελομεν λοιπον συγκατανευσει εις εσας να καμνητε απαν τουτο το μεγα κακον, να γινησθε παραβαται εναντιον εις τον Θεον ημων λαμβανοντες ξενας γυναικας;

Shall we then hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in marrying strange wives?

Και εις εκ των υιων του Ιωαδα, υιου του Ελιασειβ του ιερεως του μεγαλου, ητο γαμβρος Σαναβαλλατ του Ορωνιτου οθεν απεδιωξα αυτον απ εμπροσθεν μου.

And one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son in law to Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I chased him from me.

Μνησθητι αυτων, Θεε μου, διοτι εβεβηλωσαν την ιερατειαν και την διαθηκην της ιερατειας και των Λευιτων.

Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites.

Και εκαθαρισα αυτους απο παντων των ξενων, και διωρισα φυλακας εκ των ιερεων και των Λευιτων, εκαστον εις τα εργα αυτου

Thus cleansed I them from all strangers, and appointed the wards of the priests and the Levites, every one in his business;

και δια την προσφοραν των ξυλων εν καιροις ωρισμενοις, και δια τας απαρχας. Μνησθητι μου, Θεε μου, επ αγαθω.

And for the wood offering, at times appointed, and for the firstfruits. Remember me, O my God, for good.
