Και υπηγεν Αβιμελεχ ο υιος του Ιεροβααλ εις Συχεμ προς τους αδελφους της μητρος αυτου και ειπε προς αυτους και προς πασαν την συγγενειαν του οικου του πατρος της μητρος αυτου, λεγων,

And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem unto his mother's brethren, and communed with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother's father, saying,

Λαλησατε, παρακαλω, εις επηκοον παντων των ανδρων της Συχεμ, Τι ειναι καλητερον εις εσας, να αρχωσιν επανω σας παντες οι υιοι του Ιεροβααλ, εβδομηκοντα ανδρες, η να αρχη εις μονος επανω σας; και ενθυμηθητε οτι οστουν υμων και σαρξ υμων ειμαι.

Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.

Και ελαλησαν περι αυτου οι αδελφοι της μητρος αυτου εις επηκοον παντων των ανδρων της Συχεμ παντας τους λογους τουτους και εκλινεν η καρδια αυτων κατοπιν του Αβιμελεχ διοτι ειπον, Αδελφος ημων ειναι.

And his mother's brethren spake of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother.

Και εδωκαν εις αυτον εβδομηκοντα αργυρια εκ του οικου του Βααλ−βεριθ, και δι αυτων εμισθωσεν ο Αβιμελεχ ανδρας ποταπους και θρασεις, και ηκολουθησαν αυτον.

And they gave him threescore and ten pieces of silver out of the house of Baal–berith, wherewith Abimelech hired vain and light persons, which followed him.

Και εισηλθεν εις τον οικον του πατρος αυτου εις Οφρα και εθανατωσε τους αδελφους αυτου τους υιους του Ιεροβααλ, εβδομηκοντα ανδρας, επι λιθον ενα εναπελειφθη ομως ο Ιωθαμ ο νεωτερος υιος του Ιεροβααλ, διοτι εκρυφθη.

And he went unto his father's house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.

Και συνηχθησαν παντες οι ανδρες της Συχεμ και πας ο οικος του Μιλλω και ελθοντες εκαμον τον Αβιμελεχ βασιλεα, πλησιον της δρυος της ισταμενης εν Συχεμ.

And all the men of Shechem gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and went, and made Abimelech king, by the plain of the pillar that was in Shechem.

Και οτε ανηγγελθη τουτο εις τον Ιωθαμ, υπηγε και εσταθη επι την κορυφην του ορους Γαριζιν, και υψωσε την φωνην αυτου και εβοησε και ειπε προς αυτους, Ακουσατε μου, ανδρες της Συχεμ, και θελει σας ακουσει ο Θεος.

And when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried, and said unto them, Hearken unto me, ye men of Shechem, that God may hearken unto you.

Υπηγον ποτε τα δενδρα να χρισωσι βασιλεα εφ εαυτων και ειπον προς την ελαιαν, Βασιλευσον εφ ημων.

The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the olive tree, Reign thou over us.

Αλλ η ελαια ειπε προς αυτα, Να αφησω εγω το παχος μου, δια της οποιας τιμωνται Θεος και ανθρωποι, και να υπαγω να αρχω επι των δενδρων;

But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honour God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

Και ειπον τα δενδρα προς την συκην, Ελθε συ, βασιλευσον εφ ημων.

And the trees said to the fig tree, Come thou, and reign over us.

Αλλ η συκη ειπε προς αυτα, Να αφησω την γλυκυτητα μου και τον καρπον μου τον καλον, και να υπαγω να αρχω επι των δενδρων;

But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?

Και ειπον τα δενδρα προς την αμπελον, Ελθε συ, βασιλευσον εφ ημων.

Then said the trees unto the vine, Come thou, and reign over us.

Και ειπεν η αμπελος προς αυτα, Να αφησω τον οινον μου, οστις ευφραινει Θεον και ανθρωπους, και να υπαγω να αρχω επι των δενδρων;

And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

Τοτε ειπον παντα τα δενδρα προς την ακανθαν, Ελθε συ, βασιλευσον εφ ημων.

Then said all the trees unto the bramble, Come thou, and reign over us.

Και ειπεν η ακανθα προς τα δενδρα, Εαν αληθως σεις με χριητε βασιλεα υμων, ελθετε, καταφυγετε υπο την σκιαν μου ει δε μη, πυρ να εξελθη εκ της ακανθης και να καταφαγη τας κεδρους του Λιβανου.

And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.

Τωρα λοιπον, εαν επραξατε εν αληθεια και ακεραιοτητι καμνοντες τον Αβιμελεχ βασιλεα, και εαν εφερθητε καλως προς τον Ιεροβααλ και προς τον οικον αυτου, και εαν εκαμετε προς αυτον κατα την αξιαν των χειρων αυτου

Now therefore, if ye have done truly and sincerely, in that ye have made Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done unto him according to the deserving of his hands;

διοτι ο πατηρ μου επολεμησε δια σας και ερριψοκινδυνευσε την ζωην αυτου και σας εσωσεν εκ της χειρος του Μαδιαμ

(For my father fought for you, and adventured his life far, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian:

και σεις εσηκωθητε σημερον εναντιον του οικου του πατρος μου και εθανατωσατε τους υιους αυτου, εβδομηκοντα ανδρας, επι λιθον ενα, και εκαμετε τον Αβιμελεχ, τον υιον της δουλης αυτου, βασιλεα επι παντων των ανδρων της Συχεμ, διοτι ειναι αδελφος σας

And ye are risen up against my father's house this day, and have slain his sons, threescore and ten persons, upon one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maidservant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother;)

εαν λοιπον επραξατε σημερον εν αληθεια και ακεραιοτητι προς τον Ιεροβααλ και προς τον οικον αυτου, χαιρετε εις τον Αβιμελεχ και ας χαιρη και αυτος εις εσας.

If ye then have dealt truly and sincerely with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you:

ει δε μη, πυρ να εξελθη εκ του Αβιμελεχ και να καταφαγη τους ανδρας της Συχεμ και τον οικον του Μιλλω και πυρ να εξελθη εκ των ανδρων της Συχεμ και εκ του οικου του Μιλλω, και να καταφαγη τον Αβιμελεχ.

But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech.

Τοτε εφυγεν ο Ιωθαμ μετα σπουδης και υπηγεν εις Βηρ και κατωκησεν εκει, δια τον φοβον Αβιμελεχ του αδελφου αυτου.

And Jotham ran away, and fled, and went to Beer, and dwelt there, for fear of Abimelech his brother.

Και εβασιλευσεν ο Αβιμελεχ επι του Ισραηλ τρια ετη.

When Abimelech had reigned three years over Israel,

Και εξαπεστειλεν ο Θεος πνευμα πονηρον μεταξυ του Αβιμελεχ και των ανδρων της Συχεμ και εστασιασαν οι ανδρες της Συχεμ κατα του Αβιμελεχ

Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the men of Shechem; and the men of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech:

δια να ελθη η αδικια των εβδομηκοντα υιων του Ιεροβααλ, και να επελθη το αιμα αυτων επι τον Αβιμελεχ τον αδελφον αυτων τον θανατωσαντα αυτους, και επι τους ανδρας της Συχεμ, τους ενισχυσαντας τας χειρας αυτου, δια να θανατωση τους αδελφους αυτου.

That the cruelty done to the threescore and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, which slew them; and upon the men of Shechem, which aided him in the killing of his brethren.

Και εθεσαν κατ αυτου οι ανδρες της Συχεμ ενεδρας επι τας κορυφας των ορεων, και εγυμνονον παντας τους διαβαινοντας πλησιον αυτων δια της οδου και ανηγγελθη προς τον Αβιμελεχ.

And the men of Shechem set liers in wait for him in the top of the mountains, and they robbed all that came along that way by them: and it was told Abimelech.

Και ηλθε Γααλ ο υιος του Εβεδ και οι αδελφοι αυτου, και διεβησαν εις Συχεμ, και ενεπιστευθησαν εις αυτον οι ανδρες της Συχεμ.

And Gaal the son of Ebed came with his brethren, and went over to Shechem: and the men of Shechem put their confidence in him.

Και εξηλθον εις τους αγρους και ετρυγησαν τας αμπελους αυτων και επατησαν και ευθυμησαν, και υπηγαν εις τον οικον του Θεου αυτων και εφαγον και επιον, και κατηρασθησαν τον Αβιμελεχ.

And they went out into the fields, and gathered their vineyards, and trode the grapes, and made merry, and went into the house of their god, and did eat and drink, and cursed Abimelech.

Και ειπε Γααλ ο υιος του Εβεδ, Τις ειναι ο Αβιμελεχ, και τις η Συχεμ, ωστε να δουλευωμεν εις αυτον; δεν ειναι ουτος ο υιος του Ιεροβααλ; και Ζεβουλ ο επιστατης αυτου; δουλευσατε εις τους ανδρας του Εμμωρ πατρος του Συχεμ και δια τι ημεις να δουλευωμεν εις εκεινον;

And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him?

ειθε να εδιδετο ο λαος ουτος υπο την χειρα μου. Τοτε ηθελον εκδιωξει τον Αβιμελεχ. Και ειπε προς τον Αβιμελεχ, Πληθυνον το στρατευμα σου και εξελθε.

And would to God this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out.

Και ηκουσε Ζεβουλ ο αρχων της πολεως τους λογους Γααλ του υιου του Εβεδ, και εξηφθη ο θυμος αυτου

And when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, his anger was kindled.

και απεστειλε κρυφιως μηνυτας προς τον Αβιμελεχ, λεγων, Ιδου, Γααλ ο υιος του Εβεδ και οι αδελφοι αυτου ηλθον εις Συχεμ και ιδου, αυτοι διεγειρουσι την πολιν εναντιον σου

And he sent messengers unto Abimelech privily, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brethren be come to Shechem; and, behold, they fortify the city against thee.

δια τουτο λοιπον σηκωθητι την νυκτα, συ και ο λαος ο μετα σου, και βαλε ενεδρας εν τοις αγροις

Now therefore up by night, thou and the people that is with thee, and lie in wait in the field:

και το πρωι, αμα ανατειλη ο ηλιος, θελεις σηκωθη ενωρις και θελεις εφορμησει επι την πολιν και ιδου, αυτος και ο λαος ο μετ αυτου θελουσιν εξελθει εναντιον σου, και συ θελεις καμει εις αυτον οπως δυνηθης.

And it shall be, that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, thou shalt rise early, and set upon the city: and, behold, when he and the people that is with him come out against thee, then mayest thou do to them as thou shalt find occasion.

Και εσηκωθη ο Αβιμελεχ και πας ο λαος ο μετ αυτου την νυκτα και εβαλον εις ενεδραν κατα της Συχεμ τεσσαρα σωματα.

And Abimelech rose up, and all the people that were with him, by night, and they laid wait against Shechem in four companies.

Και εξηλθε Γααλ ο υιος του Εβεδ και εσταθη εν τη εισοδω της πυλης της πολεως και εσηκωθη ο Αβιμελεχ και ο λαος ο μετ αυτου εκ της ενεδρας.

And Gaal the son of Ebed went out, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and Abimelech rose up, and the people that were with him, from lying in wait.

Και οτε ειδεν ο Γααλ τον λαον, ειπε προς τον Ζεβουλ, Ιδου, λαος καταβαινει απο των κορυφων των ορεων ειπε δε προς αυτον ο Ζεβουλ, την σκιαν των ορεων βλεπεις συ ως ανδρας.

And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, there come people down from the top of the mountains. And Zebul said unto him, Thou seest the shadow of the mountains as if they were men.

Και ελαλησε παλιν ο Γααλ και ειπεν, Ιδου, λαος καταβαινει απο των υψηλων του τοπου, και εν σωμα ερχεται δια της οδου της δρυος Μεωνενιμ.

And Gaal spake again and said, See there come people down by the middle of the land, and another company come along by the plain of Meonenim.

Τοτε ειπε προς αυτον ο Ζεβουλ, Που ειναι τωρα το στομα σου, με το οποιον ειπας, Τις ειναι ο Αβιμελεχ, ωστε να δουλευωμεν εις αυτον; Δεν ειναι ουτος ο λαος, τον οποιον εξουθενησας; εξελθε λοιπον τωρα και πολεμησον αυτους.

Then said Zebul unto him, Where is now thy mouth, wherewith thou saidst, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not this the people that thou hast despised? go out, I pray now, and fight with them.

Και εξηλθεν ο Γααλ εμπροσθεν των ανδρων της Συχεμ και επολεμησε με τον Αβιμελεχ

And Gaal went out before the men of Shechem, and fought with Abimelech.

ο δε Αβιμελεχ κατεδιωξεν αυτον, και εφυγεν απ εμπροσθεν αυτου, και επεσον τετραυματισμενοι πολλοι εως της εισοδου της πυλης.

And Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him, and many were overthrown and wounded, even unto the entering of the gate.

Και εκαθισεν Αβιμελεχ εν Αρουμα και εξεβαλεν ο Ζεβουλ τον Γααλ και τους αδελφους αυτου, δια να μη κατοικωσιν εν Συχεμ.

And Abimelech dwelt at Arumah: and Zebul thrust out Gaal and his brethren, that they should not dwell in Shechem.

Και την επαυριον εξηλθεν ο λαος εις την πεδιαδα και ανηγγελθη προς τον Αβιμελεχ.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people went out into the field; and they told Abimelech.

Τοτε ελαβε τον λαον και διηρεσεν αυτον εις τρια σωματα και εθεσεν ενεδρας εις την πεδιαδα και ειδε, και ιδου, ο λαος εξηρχετο εκ της πολεως και εσηκωθη εναντιον αυτων και επαταξεν αυτους.

And he took the people, and divided them into three companies, and laid wait in the field, and looked, and, behold, the people were come forth out of the city; and he rose up against them, and smote them.

Και ο Αβιμελεχ και το σωμα το μετ αυτον εφωρμησαν και εσταθησαν εν τη εισοδω της πυλης της πολεως τα δε αλλα δυο σωματα εφωρμησαν επι παντας τους εν τοις αγροις και επαταξαν αυτους.

And Abimelech, and the company that was with him, rushed forward, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and the two other companies ran upon all the people that were in the fields, and slew them.

Και επολεμει ο Αβιμελεχ εναντιον της πολεως ολην εκεινην την ημεραν και εκυριευσε την πολιν και εφονευσε τον λαον τον εν αυτη και κατεσκαψε την πολιν και εσπειρεν αυτην αλας.

And Abimelech fought against the city all that day; and he took the city, and slew the people that was therein, and beat down the city, and sowed it with salt.

Και οτε ηκουσαν παντες οι ανδρες του πυργου της Συχεμ, εισηλθον εις το οχυρωμα του οικου του Θεου Βεριθ.

And when all the men of the tower of Shechem heard that, they entered into an hold of the house of the god Berith.

Και ανηγγελθη προς τον Αβιμελεχ, οτι συνηθροισθησαν παντες οι ανδρες του πυργου της Συχεμ.

And it was told Abimelech, that all the men of the tower of Shechem were gathered together.

Και ανεβη ο Αβιμελεχ εις το ορος Σαλμων, αυτος και πας ο λαος ο μετ αυτου και ελαβεν ο Αβιμελεχ την αξινην εις την χειρα αυτου και εκοψε κλαδον δενδρου, και εσηκωσεν αυτον και επεθεσεν επι των ωμων αυτου και ειπε προς τον λαον τον μετ αυτου, Ο, τι βλεπετε εμε πραττοντα, σπευσατε και σεις να πραξητε ως εγω.

And Abimelech gat him up to mount Zalmon, he and all the people that were with him; and Abimelech took an axe in his hand, and cut down a bough from the trees, and took it, and laid it on his shoulder, and said unto the people that were with him, What ye have seen me do, make haste, and do as I have done.

Εκοψε λοιπον και πας ο λαος εκαστος τον κλαδον αυτου, και ακολουθησαντες τον Αβιμελεχ επεθεσαν αυτους εις το οχυρωμα και κατεκαυσαν εν πυρι το οχυρωμα επ αυτους και απεθανον ομου παντες οι ανδρες του πυργου της Συχεμ, εως χιλιοι ανδρες και γυναικες.

And all the people likewise cut down every man his bough, and followed Abimelech, and put them to the hold, and set the hold on fire upon them; so that all the men of the tower of Shechem died also, about a thousand men and women.

Τοτε υπηγεν ο Αβιμελεχ εις Θαβαις και εστρατοπεδευσεν εναντιον της Θαβαις και εκυριευσεν αυτην.

Then went Abimelech to Thebez, and encamped against Thebez, and took it.

Αλλ ητο πυργος ισχυρος εν τω μεσω της πολεως, και κατεφυγον εκει παντες οι ανδρες και αι γυναικες και παντες οι κατοικοι της πολεως, και εκλεισαν οπισθεν αυτων και ανεβησαν εις το δωμα του πυργου.

But there was a strong tower within the city, and thither fled all the men and women, and all they of the city, and shut it to them, and gat them up to the top of the tower.

Και υπηγεν ο Αβιμελεχ μεχρι του πυργου και επολεμει αυτον, και επλησιασε μεχρι της θυρας του πυργου δια να καυση αυτον εν πυρι.

And Abimelech came unto the tower, and fought against it, and went hard unto the door of the tower to burn it with fire.

Και γυνη τις ερριψε τμημα μυλοπετρας επι την κεφαλην του Αβιμελεχ και συνεθλασε το κρανιον αυτου.

And a certain woman cast a piece of a millstone upon Abimelech's head, and all to brake his skull.

Και εφωναξε ταχεως προς τον νεον τον οπλοφορον αυτου και ειπε προς αυτον, Συρε την μαχαιραν σου και θανατωσον με, δια να μη ειπωσι περι εμου, Γυνη εφονευσεν αυτον. Και ο νεος αυτου διεπερασεν αυτον, και απεθανε.

Then he called hastily unto the young man his armourbearer, and said unto him, Draw thy sword, and slay me, that men say not of me, A woman slew him. And his young man thrust him through, and he died.

Και οτε ειδον οι ανδρες Ισραηλ οτι απεθανεν ο Αβιμελεχ, ανεχωρησαν εκαστος εις τον τοπον αυτου.

And when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, they departed every man unto his place.

Ουτως ανταπεδωκεν ο Θεος την κακιαν του Αβιμελεχ, την οποιαν εκαμε προς τον πατερα αυτου, φονευσας τους εβδομηκοντα αδελφους αυτου.

Thus God rendered the wickedness of Abimelech, which he did unto his father, in slaying his seventy brethren:

Και πασαν την κακιαν των ανδρων της Συχεμ ο Θεος ανταπεδωκεν επι τας κεφαλας αυτων και ηλθεν επ αυτους η καταρα του Ιωθαμ υιου του Ιεροβααλ.

And all the evil of the men of Shechem did God render upon their heads: and upon them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal.
