Joshua 20

Και ελαλησε Κυριος προς τον Ιησουν λεγων,

The LORD also spake unto Joshua, saying,

Ειπε προς τους υιους Ισραηλ λεγων, Διορισατε εις εαυτους τας πολεις της καταφυγης, περι των οποιων ειπα προς εσας δια του Μωυσεως

Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

δια να φευγη εκει ο φονευς, οστις φονευση ανθρωπον ακουσιως εξ αγνοιας και αυται θελουσιν εισθαι εις εσας δια καταφυγιον απο του εκδικητου του αιματος.

That the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.

Και οταν ο φευγων εις μιαν εκ των πολεων τουτων σταθη εις την εισοδον της πυλης της πολεως, και λαληση την υποθεσιν αυτου εις επηκοον των πρεσβυτερων της πολεως εκεινης, ουτοι θελουσι δεχθη αυτον εις την πολιν προς εαυτους και δωσει τοπον εις αυτον, και θελει κατοικει μετ αυτων.

And when he that doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.

Και εαν ο εκδικητης του αιματος καταδιωξη αυτον, δεν θελουσι παραδωσει τον φονεα εις τας χειρας αυτου διοτι εξ αγνοιας επαταξε τον πλησιον αυτου και δεν εμισει αυτον προτερον.

And if the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver the slayer up into his hand; because he smote his neighbour unwittingly, and hated him not beforetime.

Και θελει κατοικει εν εκεινη τη πολει, εωσου παρασταθη ενωπιον της συναγωγης εις κρισιν, εως του θανατου του ιερεως του μεγαλου, του οντος εν ταις ημεραις εκειναις τοτε ο φονευς θελει επιστρεψει και υπαγει εις την πολιν αυτου και εις την οικιαν αυτου, εις την πολιν οθεν εφυγε.

And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.

Και διωρισαν την Κεδες εν τη Γαλιλαια εν τω ορει Νεφθαλι, και την Συχεμ εν τω ορει Εφραιμ, και την Κιριαθ−αρβα, ητις ειναι η Χεβρων, εν τη ορεινη του Ιουδα.

And they appointed Kedesh in Galilee in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjath–arba, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah.

Εις δε το περαν του Ιορδανου, πλησιον της Ιεριχω, προς ανατολας, διωρισαν την Βοσορ εν τη ερημω επι της πεδιαδος εκ της φυλης Ρουβην, και την Ραμωθ εν τη Γαλααδ εκ της φυλης Γαδ, και την Γωλαν εν Βασαν εκ της φυλης Μανασση.

And on the other side Jordan by Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness upon the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

Αυται ησαν αι πολεις αι διορισθεισαι δια παντας τους υιους Ισραηλ και δια τους ξενους τους παροικουντας μεταξυ αυτων, ωστε πας ο φονευσας τινα εξ αγνοιας να φευγη εκει, και να μη θανατωθη εκ της χειρος του εκδικητου του αιματος, εωσου παρασταθη ενωπιον της συναγωγης.

These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person at unawares might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.
