Samson a plecat la Gaza; acolo a văzut o curvă, şi a intrat la ea.

Then went Samson to Gaza, and saw there an harlot, and went in unto her.

S'a spus oamenilor din Gaza: ,,Samson a venit aici``. Şi l-au înconjurat, şi au pîndit toată noaptea la poarta cetăţii. Au stat liniştiţi toată noaptea, şi au zis: ,,Cînd se va lumina de ziuă, îl vom omorî``.

And it was told the Gazites, saying, Samson is come hither. And they compassed him in, and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, In the morning, when it is day, we shall kill him.

Samson a rămas culcat pînă la miezul nopţii. Pela miezul nopţii, s'a sculat, şi a apucat porţile cetăţii cu amîndoi stîlpii, le -a scos împreună cu zăvorul, le -a pus pe umeri, şi le -a dus pe vîrful muntelui din faţa Hebronului.

And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron.

După aceea, a iubit pe o femeie în valea Sorec. Ea se numea Dalila.

And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah.

Domnitorii Filistenilor s'au suit la ea, şi i-au zis: ,,Înduplecă -l, şi află de unde -i vine puterea lui cea mare şi cum am putea să -l biruim, ca să -l legăm şi să -l slăbim, şi-ţi vom da fiecare cîte o mie o sută de sicli de argint.

And the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and said unto her, Entice him, and see wherein his great strength lieth, and by what means we may prevail against him, that we may bind him to afflict him: and we will give thee every one of us eleven hundred pieces of silver.

Dalila a zis lui Samson: ,,Spune-mi, te rog, de unde-ţi vine puterea ta cea mare, şi cu ce ar trebui să fii legat ca să fii biruit``.

And Delilah said to Samson, Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thy great strength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest be bound to afflict thee.

Samson i -a zis: ,,Dacă aş fi legat cu şapte funii noi, cari să nu fie uscate încă, aş slăbi şi aş fi ca orice alt om``.

And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.

Domnitorii Filistenilor au adus Dalilei şapte funii noi, neuscate încă``. Şi ea l -a legat cu funiile acestea.

Then the lords of the Philistines brought up to her seven green withs which had not been dried, and she bound him with them.

Iar nişte oameni stăteau la pîndă la ea, într'o odaie. Ea i -a zis: ,,Filistenii sînt asupra ta Samson``! Şi el a rupt funiile, cum se rupe o aţă de cîlţi cînd se atinge de foc. Şi astfel n'au ştiut de unde -i venea puterea.

Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And she said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he brake the withs, as a thread of tow is broken when it toucheth the fire. So his strength was not known.

Dalila a zis lui Samson: ,,Vezi, ţi-ai bătut joc de mine, mi-ai spus minciuni. Acum, te rog, arată-mi cu ce trebuie să fii legat``.

And Delilah said unto Samson, Behold, thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: now tell me, I pray thee, wherewith thou mightest be bound.

El i -a zis: ,,Dacă aş fi legat cu funii noi, cari să nu fi fost întrebuinţate niciodată, aş slăbi şi aş fi ca orice alt om``.

And he said unto her, If they bind me fast with new ropes that never were occupied, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.

Dalila a luat nişte funii noi, şi l -a legat cu ele. Apoi i -a zis: ,,Filistenii sînt asupra ta, Samson!`` Iar nişte oameni stăteau la pîndă într'o odaie. Şi el a rupt funiile de la braţe ca pe o aţă.

Delilah therefore took new ropes, and bound him therewith, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And there were liers in wait abiding in the chamber. And he brake them from off his arms like a thread.

Dalila a zis lui Samson: ,,Pînă acum ţi-ai bătut joc de mine, şi mi-ai spus minciuni. Spune-mi cu ce trebuie să fii legat``. El i -a zis: ,,N'ai decît să împleteşti cele şapte şuviţe de păr din capul meu în urzeala ţăsăturii``.

And Delilah said unto Samson, Hitherto thou hast mocked me, and told me lies: tell me wherewith thou mightest be bound. And he said unto her, If thou weavest the seven locks of my head with the web.

Şi ea le -a pironit cu un cui de lemn în pămînt. Apoi i -a zis: ,,Filistenii sînt asupra ta, Samson!`` Şi el s'a trezit din somn, şi a smuls cuiul de lemn din pămînt cu urzeală cu tot.

And she fastened it with the pin, and said unto him, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awaked out of his sleep, and went away with the pin of the beam, and with the web.

Ea i -a zis: ,,Cum poţi spune: ,Te iubesc!` cînd inima ta nu este cu mine? Iată că de trei ori ţi-ai bătut joc de mine, şi nu mi-ai spus de unde-ţi vine puterea ta cea mare.``

And she said unto him, How canst thou say, I love thee, when thine heart is not with me? thou hast mocked me these three times, and hast not told me wherein thy great strength lieth.

Fiindcă ea îl necăjea şi -l chinuia în fiecare zi cu stăruinţele ei, sufletul i s'a umplut de o nelinişte de moarte,

And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, so that his soul was vexed unto death;

şi -a deschis toată inima faţă de ea, şi i -a zis: ,,Briciul n'a trecut peste capul meu, pentrucă sînt închinat Domnului din pîntecele maicii mele. Dacă aş fi ras, puterea m'ar părăsi, aş slăbi, şi aş fi ca orice alt om``.

That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I have been a Nazarite unto God from my mother's womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any other man.

Dalila, văzînd că îşi deschisese toată inima faţă de ea, a trimes să cheme pe domnitorii Filistenilor, şi a pus să le spună: ,,Suiţi-vă de data aceasta, căci mi -a deschis toată inima lui``. Şi domnitorii Filistenilor s'au suit la ea, şi au adus argintul în mîni.

And when Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, Come up this once, for he hath shewed me all his heart. Then the lords of the Philistines came up unto her, and brought money in their hand.

Ea l -a adormit pe genunchii ei. Şi chemînd un om, a ras cele şapte suviţe de pe capul lui Samson, şi a început astfel să -l slăbească. El şi -a pierdut puterea.

And she made him sleep upon her knees; and she called for a man, and she caused him to shave off the seven locks of his head; and she began to afflict him, and his strength went from him.

Atunci ea a zis: ,,Filistenii sînt asupra ta, Samson!`` Şi el s'a trezit din somn, şi a zis: ,,Voi face ca şi mai înainte, şi mă voi scutura``. Nu ştia că Domnul Se depărtase de el.

And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him.

Filistenii l-au apucat, şi i-au scos ochii; l-au pogorît la Gaza, şi l-au legat cu nişte lanţuri de aramă. El învîrtea la rîşniţă în temniţă.

But the Philistines took him, and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison house.

Dar părul capului lui a început iarăş să crească, dupăce fusese ras.

Howbeit the hair of his head began to grow again after he was shaven.

Şi domnitorii Filistenilor s'au strîns ca să aducă o mare jertfă dumnezeului lor Dagon, şi ca să se veselească. Ei ziceau: ,,Dumnezeul nostru a dat în mînile noastre pe Samson, vrăjmaşul nostru.``

Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god, and to rejoice: for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand.

Şi cînd l -a văzut poporul, au lăudat pe dumnezeul lor, zicînd: ,,Dumnezeul nostru a dat în mînile noastre pe vrăjmaşul nostru, pe acela care ne pustiia ţara, şi ne înmulţea morţii.``

And when the people saw him, they praised their god: for they said, Our god hath delivered into our hands our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us.

În bucuria inimii lor, au zis: ,,Chemaţi pe Samson, ca să ne desfăteze!`` Au scos pe Samson din temniţă, şi el a jucat înaintea lor. L-au aşezat între stîlpi.

And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars.

Şi Samson a zis tînărului care -l ţinea de mînă: ,,Lasă-mă, ca să mă pot atinge de stîlpii pe cari se reazimă casa, şi să mă razim de ei.``

And Samson said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house standeth, that I may lean upon them.

Casa era plină de bărbaţi şi de femei; toţi domnitorii Filistenilor erau acolo, şi pe acoperiş erau aproape trei mii de inşi, bărbaţi şi femei, cari priveau la Samson, cum juca.

Now the house was full of men and women; and all the lords of the Philistines were there; and there were upon the roof about three thousand men and women, that beheld while Samson made sport.

Atunci Samson a strigat către Domnul, şi a zis: ,,Doamne, Dumnezeule! Adu-ţi aminte de mine, Te rog; Dumnezeule, dă-mi putere numai de data aceasta, şi cu o singură lovitură să-mi răzbun pe Filisteni pentru cei doi ochi ai mei!``

And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.

Şi Samson a îmbrăţişat amîndoi stîlpii dela mijloc pe cari se sprijinea casa, şi s'a rezemat de ei; unul era la dreapta lui, şi altul la stînga.

And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left.

Samson a zis: ,,Să mor împreună cu Filistenii!`` S'a plecat cu toată puterea, şi casa a căzut peste domnitori şi peste tot poporul care era acolo. Cei pe cari i -a prăpădit la moartea lui au fost mai mulţi decît cei pe cari -i omorîse în timpul vieţii.

And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life.

Fraţii lui şi toată casa tatălui său s'au pogorît, şi l-au luat. Cînd s'au suit înapoi, l-au îngropat între Ţorea şi Eştaol, în mormîntul tatălui său Manoah. El fusese judecător în Israel douăzeci de ani.

Then his brethren and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the buryingplace of Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years.
