Acts 11

Apostlene og de brødre som var omkring i Judea, fikk da høre at også hedningene hadde tatt imot Guds ord.

And the apostles and brethren that were in Judæa heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

Da nu Peter kom op til Jerusalem, gikk de av omskjærelsen i rette med ham og sa:

And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem, they that were of the circumcision contended with him,

Du gikk inn til uomskårne menn og åt med dem.

Saying, Thou wentest in to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them.

Men Peter begynte da fra først av og la det ut i sammenheng og sa:

But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying,

Jeg var i byen Joppe og bad; da så jeg i en henrykkelse et syn: Det dalte ned noget, likesom en stor duk, som blev senket ned fra himmelen efter de fire hjørner, og det kom like bort til mig;

I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me:

da jeg stirret på den og så nøie efter, blev jeg var jordens firføtte dyr og ville og krypende dyr og himmelens fugler.

Upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

Jeg hørte også en røst som sa til mig: Stå op, Peter! slakt og et!

And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat.

Men jeg sa: Ingenlunde, Herre! aldri er noget vanhellig eller urent kommet i min munn.

But I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered into my mouth.

En røst fra himmelen svarte mig da annen gang: Det som Gud har renset, det må ikke du gjøre til urent.

But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

Dette skjedde tre ganger; og det blev alt sammen dradd op igjen til himmelen.

And this was done three times: and all were drawn up again into heaven.

Og se, i det samme stod tre menn utenfor huset der jeg var; de var utsendt til mig fra Cesarea,

And, behold, immediately there were three men already come unto the house where I was, sent from Cæsarea unto me.

Og Ånden sa til mig at jeg skulde gå med dem uten å tvile; disse seks brødre drog også med mig; og vi kom inn i mannens hus.

And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man's house:

Og han fortalte oss hvorledes han hadde sett engelen som stod i hans hus og sa til ham: Send bud til Joppe og hent til dig Simon som kalles med tilnavn Peter!

And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter;

han skal tale ord til dig som du skal bli frelst ved, du og hele ditt hus.

Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

Men da jeg begynte å tale, falt den Hellige Ånd på dem, likesom på oss i begynnelsen.

And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

Da kom jeg Herrens ord i hu, at han sa: Johannes døpte med vann, men I skal døpes med den Hellige Ånd.

Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost.

Gav nu altså Gud dem den samme gave som han gav oss, da de var kommet til troen på den Herre Jesus Kristus, hvem var da vel jeg, at jeg skulde være i stand til å hindre Gud?

Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

Da de hørte dette, slo de sig til ro, og de priste Gud og sa: Så har da Gud også gitt hedningene omvendelsen til livet.

When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

De som nu var adspredt på grunn av den trengsel som opstod for Stefanus' skyld, drog omkring like til Fønikia og Kypern og Antiokia, men talte ikke ordet til andre enn jøder.

Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only.

Men iblandt dem var det nogen menn fra Kypern og Kyrene, som kom til Antiokia, og der talte de også til grekerne og forkynte dem evangeliet om den Herre Jesus.

And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.

Og Herrens hånd var med dem, og et stort tall kom til troen og omvendte sig til Herren.

And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

Denne tidende kom da menigheten i Jerusalem for øre, og de sendte Barnabas ut for å dra til Antiokia;

Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch.

da han kom dit og så Guds nåde, gledet han sig, og han formante alle til at de med hjertets forsett skulde holde fast ved Herren;

Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.

for han var en god mann og full av den Hellige Ånd og tro. Og en stor skare blev vunnet for Herren.

For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.

Han drog da ut til Tarsus for å opsøke Saulus, og da han hadde funnet ham, førte han ham til Antiokia.

Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:

Og et helt år var de sammen der i menigheten og lærte en stor skare, og i Antiokia fikk disiplene først navnet kristne.

And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

I disse dager kom det nogen profeter ned fra Jerusalem til Antiokia,

And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.

og en av dem, ved navn Agabus, stod op og varslet ved Ånden at det skulde komme en stor hungersnød over hele jorderike; den kom også under Klaudius.

And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Cæsar.

Disiplene vedtok da, alt efter som enhver av dem hadde råd til, å sende noget til hjelp for de brødre som bodde i Judea.

Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judæa:

Dette gjorde de også, og de sendte det med Barnabas og Saulus til de eldste.

Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.
