I Kings 8

Da kalte kong Salomo Israels eldste og alle stammehøvdingene, overhodene for Israels barns familier, sammen til sig i Jerusalem for å føre Herrens pakts-ark op fra Davids stad, det er Sion.

Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel, and all the heads of the tribes, the chief of the fathers of the children of Israel, unto king Solomon in Jerusalem, that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion.

Og alle Israels menn samlet sig hos kong Salomo på festen i måneden etanim, det er den syvende måned.

And all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto king Solomon at the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month.

Da nu alle Israels eldste var kommet, løftet prestene arken op.

And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark.

Og de bar Herrens ark op og sammenkomstens telt og alle de hellige redskaper som var i teltet; det var prestene og levittene som bar dem op.

And they brought up the ark of the LORD, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle, even those did the priests and the Levites bring up.

Og kong Salomo stod foran arken og med ham hele Israels menighet, som hadde samlet sig hos ham, og de ofret småfe og storfe i slik mengde at de ikke kunde telles eller regnes.

And king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel, that were assembled unto him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen, that could not be told nor numbered for multitude.

Prestene bar Herrens pakts-ark inn på dens plass i husets kor, i det Aller-helligste, under kjerubenes vinger.

And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, into the oracle of the house, to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims.

For kjerubene bredte sine vinger ut over det sted hvor arken stod, så at kjerubene ovenfra dekket både over arken og dens stenger.

For the cherubims spread forth their two wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the staves thereof above.

Stengene var så lange at deres ender kunde sees fra det Hellige foran koret, men ikke utenfor. Og der har de vært til denne dag.

And they drew out the staves, that the ends of the staves were seen out in the holy place before the oracle, and they were not seen without: and there they are unto this day.

Det var ikke noget i arken uten de to stentavler som Moses hadde lagt ned der ved Horeb, dengang Herren gjorde pakt med Israels barn da de drog ut av Egyptens land.

There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.

Så skjedde det at da prestene gikk ut av helligdommen, da fylte skyen Herrens hus.

And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD,

Og for skyens skyld kunde prestene ikke bli stående og gjøre tjeneste; for Herrens herlighet fylte Herrens hus.

So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD.

Da sa Salomo: Herren har sagt at han vil bo i mulmet.

Then spake Solomon, The LORD said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.

Bygget har jeg et hus til bolig for dig, et sted hvor du kan bo til evig tid.

I have surely built thee an house to dwell in, a settled place for thee to abide in for ever.

Så vendte kongen sig om og velsignet hele Israels menighet, mens hele Israels menighet stod.

And the king turned his face about, and blessed all the congregation of Israel: (and all the congregation of Israel stood;)

Han sa: Lovet være Herren, Israels Gud, som med sin munn talte med David, min far, og med sin hånd har opfylt det han lovte da han sa:

And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying,

Fra den dag jeg førte mitt folk Israel ut av Egypten, har jeg ikke utvalgt nogen by blandt alle Israels stammer, så der skulde bygges et hus til bolig for mitt navn; men jeg utvalgte David til å råde over mitt folk Israel.

Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house, that my name might be therein; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.

Og David, min far, hadde i sinne å bygge et hus for Herrens, Israels Guds navn.

And it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.

Men Herren sa til David, min far: At du har hatt i sinne å bygge et hus for mitt navn, det har du gjort vel i;

And the LORD said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thine heart to build an house unto my name, thou didst well that it was in thine heart.

men du skal ikke bygge huset; din sønn som skal utgå av dine lender, han skal bygge huset for mitt navn.

Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house unto my name.

Og Herren opfylte det ord han hadde talt, og jeg er trådt i min far Davids sted og har tatt sete på Israels trone, således som Herren hadde sagt, og jeg har bygget huset for Herrens, Israels Guds navn.

And the LORD hath performed his word that he spake, and I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.

Og der har jeg stelt til et rum for arken, hvori Herrens pakt er, den pakt som han gjorde med våre fedre da han førte dem ut av Egyptens land.

And I have set there a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.

Så trådte Salomo frem foran Herrens alter midt for hele Israels menighet og bredte ut sine hender mot himmelen

And Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven:

og sa: Herre, Israels Gud! Det er ikke nogen Gud som du, hverken i himmelen der oppe eller på jorden her nede, du som holder din pakt og bevarer din miskunnhet mot dine tjenere, når de vandrer for ditt åsyn av alt sitt hjerte,

And he said, LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart:

du som har holdt det du lovte din tjener David, min far; du lovte det med din munn, og med din hånd har du opfylt det, som det viser sig idag.

Who hast kept with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him: thou spakest also with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.

Så hold nu og, Herre, Israels Gud, det du lovte din tjener David, min far, da du sa: Det skal aldri fattes en mann av din ætt til å sitte på Israels trone for mitt åsyn, så sant dine barn akter på sin vei og vandrer for mitt åsyn, som du har vandret for mitt åsyn.

Therefore now, LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel; so that thy children take heed to their way, that they walk before me as thou hast walked before me.

Så la nu, Israels Gud, de ord bli sannhet som du har talt til din tjener David, min far.

And now, O God of Israel, let thy word, I pray thee, be verified, which thou spakest unto thy servant David my father.

Men bor da Gud virkelig på jorden? Se, himlene og himlenes himler rummer dig ikke; hvor meget mindre da dette hus som jeg har bygget!

But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded?

Men du vil allikevel vende dig til din tjeners bønn og til hans ydmyke begjæring, Herre min Gud, og høre på det rop og den bønn som din tjener bærer frem for ditt åsyn idag,

Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer, which thy servant prayeth before thee to day:

så dine øine må være oplatt mot dette hus natt og dag - det sted hvorom du har sagt: Mitt navn skal bo der - så du hører på den bønn som din tjener beder, vendt mot dette sted.

That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there: that thou mayest hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall make toward this place.

Du vil høre på din tjeners og ditt folk Israels ydmyke begjæring, som de bærer frem, vendt mot dette sted; du vil høre den på det sted hvor du bor, i himmelen; du vil høre og tilgi.

And hearken thou to the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: and hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place: and when thou hearest, forgive.

Når nogen synder mot sin næste, og de krever en ed av ham og lar ham sverge, og han så kommer inn og sverger foran ditt alter i dette hus,

If any man trespass against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house:

så vil du høre i himmelen og gripe inn og hjelpe dine tjenere til deres rett, så du dømmer den skyldige skyldig og lar hans gjerninger komme over hans eget hode, og dømmer den rettferdige rettferdig og lar ham få efter sin rettferdighet.

Then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.

Når ditt folk Israel blir slått av fienden fordi de synder mot dig, men de så vender om til dig og bekjenner ditt navn og beder til dig og bønnfaller dig om nåde i dette hus,

When thy people Israel be smitten down before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee, and shall turn again to thee, and confess thy name, and pray, and make supplication unto thee in this house:

så vil du høre det i himmelen og forlate ditt folk Israels synd og føre dem tilbake til det land du har gitt deres fedre.

Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest unto their fathers.

Når himmelen lukkes, så det ikke kommer regn, fordi de synder mot dig, og de så beder, vendt mot dette sted, og bekjenner ditt navn og vender om fra sin synd, fordi du ydmyker dem,

When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou afflictest them:

så vil du høre det i himmelen og forlate dine tjeneres og ditt folk Israels synd, fordi du lærer dem den gode vei de skal vandre, og du vil la det regne over ditt land, som du har gitt ditt folk til arv.

Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, that thou teach them the good way wherein they should walk, and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance.

Når det kommer hungersnød i landet, når det kommer pest, når det kommer brand og rust på kornet, gresshopper og gnagere, når deres fiender trenger inn i deres land og kringsetter deres byer, når det kommer nogen plage eller nogen sykdom -

If there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, blasting, mildew, locust, or if there be caterpiller; if their enemy besiege them in the land of their cities; whatsoever plague, whatsoever sickness there be;

hver gang da noget menneske eller hele ditt folk Israel bærer frem nogen bønn eller ydmyk begjæring, fordi de hver for sig kjenner sig rammet i sin samvittighet, og de så breder ut sine hender mot dette hus,

What prayer and supplication soever be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, which shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this house:

så vil du høre det i himmelen, der hvor du bor, og du vil tilgi og gripe inn og gi hver mann efter alle hans gjerninger, fordi du kjenner hans hjerte - for du alene kjenner alle menneskebarns hjerte -

Then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and do, and give to every man according to his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men;)

så de må frykte dig alle de dager de lever i det land du har gitt våre fedre.

That they may fear thee all the days that they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.

Også om en fremmed, en som ikke er av ditt folk Israel, men kommer fra et fjernt land for ditt navns skyld

Moreover concerning a stranger, that is not of thy people Israel, but cometh out of a far country for thy name's sake;

- for de vil få høre om ditt store navn og om din sterke hånd og om din utrakte arm - kommer og beder, vendt mot dette hus,

(For they shall hear of thy great name, and of thy strong hand, and of thy stretched out arm;) when he shall come and pray toward this house;

så vil du høre det i himmelen, der hvor du bor, og gjøre alt som den fremmede roper til dig om, så alle jordens folk må lære å kjenne ditt navn og frykte dig likesom ditt folk Israel og forstå at det er ditt navn som det nevnes med dette hus som jeg har bygget.

Hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for: that all people of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as do thy people Israel; and that they may know that this house, which I have builded, is called by thy name.

Når ditt folk drar ut i krig mot sin fiende på den vei du sender dem, og de så beder til Herren, vendt mot den stad du har utvalgt, og det hus jeg har bygget for ditt navn,

If thy people go out to battle against their enemy, whithersoever thou shalt send them, and shall pray unto the LORD toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house that I have built for thy name:

så vil du i himmelen høre deres bønn og ydmyke begjæring og hjelpe dem til deres rett.

Then hear thou in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.

Når de synder mot dig - for det er ikke noget menneske som ikke synder - og du vredes på dem og gir dem i fiendens vold, og de som tar dem til fange, fører dem bort til fiendens land, fjernt eller nær,

If they sin against thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captives unto the land of the enemy, far or near;

men de så tar sig det til hjerte i det land hvor de holdes fanget, og omvender sig og bønnfaller dig om nåde i deres land som holder dem fanget, og sier: Vi har syndet og gjort ille, vi har vært ugudelige,

Yet if they shall bethink themselves in the land whither they were carried captives, and repent, and make supplication unto thee in the land of them that carried them captives, saying, We have sinned, and have done perversely, we have committed wickedness;

og de omvender sig til dig av alt sitt hjerte og av all sin sjel i sine fienders land, blandt dem som har ført dem i fangenskap, og de beder til dig, vendt mot sitt land, som du har gitt deres fedre, og mot den stad du har utvalgt, og det hus jeg har bygget for ditt navn,

And so return unto thee with all their heart, and with all their soul, in the land of their enemies, which led them away captive, and pray unto thee toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name:

så vil du i himmelen, der hvor du bor, høre deres bønn og ydmyke begjæring og hjelpe dem til deres rett

Then hear thou their prayer and their supplication in heaven thy dwelling place, and maintain their cause,

og forlate ditt folk hvad de har syndet mot dig, og alle de misgjerninger de har gjort mot dig, og la dem finne barmhjertighet hos dem som holder dem fanget, så de forbarmer sig over dem;

And forgive thy people that have sinned against thee, and all their transgressions wherein they have transgressed against thee, and give them compassion before them who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them:

de er jo ditt folk og din arv, som du førte ut av Egypten, midt ut av jernovnen.

For they be thy people, and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest forth out of Egypt, from the midst of the furnace of iron:

La da dine øine være oplatt for din tjeners ydmyke begjæring og for ditt folk Israels ydmyke begjæring, så du hører på dem, så ofte de roper til dig.

That thine eyes may be open unto the supplication of thy servant, and unto the supplication of thy people Israel, to hearken unto them in all that they call for unto thee.

For du har utskilt dem fra alle jordens folk, så de skal være din arv, således som du sa ved din tjener Moses da du førte våre fedre ut av Egypten, Herre, Herre!

For thou didst separate them from among all the people of the earth, to be thine inheritance, as thou spakest by the hand of Moses thy servant, when thou broughtest our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord GOD.

Efterat Salomo hadde frembåret hele denne bønn og ydmyke begjæring for Herren, stod han op fra Herrens alter, hvor han hadde ligget på sine knær med hendene utbredt mot himmelen.

And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto the LORD, he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven.

Så trådte han frem og velsignet hele Israels menighet med høi røst og sa:

And he stood, and blessed all the congregation of Israel with a loud voice, saying,

Lovet være Herren, som har gitt sitt folk Israel ro, således som han lovte! Ikke et ord er blitt til intet av alle de gode ord han talte ved sin tjener Moses.

Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant.

Herren vår Gud være med oss, som han har vært med våre fedre! Han forlate oss ikke og forkaste oss ikke,

The LORD our God be with us, as he was with our fathers: let him not leave us, nor forsake us:

men bøie vårt hjerte til sig, så vi vandrer på alle hans veier og holder hans bud og forskrifter og lover, som han gav våre fedre.

That he may incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his judgments, which he commanded our fathers.

Og måtte denne min bønn som jeg i ydmykhet har frembåret for Herrens åsyn, være nær Herren vår Gud dag og natt, så han hjelper sin tjener og sitt folk Israel til deres rett, efter som det trenges hver dag,

And let these my words, wherewith I have made supplication before the LORD, be nigh unto the LORD our God day and night, that he maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel at all times, as the matter shall require:

sa alle jordens folk må kjenne at Herren er Gud, han og ingen annen,

That all the people of the earth may know that the LORD is God, and that there is none else.

Og eders hjerte må være helt med Herren vår Gud, så I vandrer efter hans lover og holder hans bud, som I gjør idag.

Let your heart therefore be perfect with the LORD our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.

Og kongen og hele Israel med ham ofret slaktoffer for Herrens åsyn.

And the king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifice before the LORD.

To og tyve tusen stykker storfe og hundre og tyve tusen stykker småfe var det takkoffer som Salomo bar frem for Herren. Således var det kongen og alle Israels barn innvidde Herrens hus.

And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the LORD, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the LORD.

Samme dag helliget kongen den midterste del av forgården som var foran Herrens hus; for der bar han frem brennofferet og matofferet og fettstykkene av takkofferne, fordi kobberalteret som stod for Herrens åsyn, var for lite til å rumme brennofferet og matofferet og fettstykkene av takkofferne.

The same day did the king hallow the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings: because the brasen altar that was before the LORD was too little to receive the burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings.

Således feiret Salomo dengang festen, og hele Israel med ham, en stor mengde folk som var kommet sammen like fra Hamat-veien og til Egyptens bekk; i syv dager og atter syv dager - tilsammen fjorten dager - feiret de festen for Herrens, vår Guds åsyn.

And at that time Solomon held a feast, and all Israel with him, a great congregation, from the entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt, before the LORD our God, seven days and seven days, even fourteen days.

Den åttende dag lot han folket fare, og de bad farvel med kongen og drog hjem igjen, glade og vel til mote over alt det gode Herren hadde gjort mot sin tjener David og mot sitt folk Israel.

On the eighth day he sent the people away: and they blessed the king, and went unto their tents joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that the LORD had done for David his servant, and for Israel his people.
