Zechariah 7

And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, even in Chisleu;

دارا بادشاہ کی حکومت کے چوتھے سال میں رب زکریاہ سے ہم کلام ہوا۔ کِسلیو یعنی نویں مہینے کا چوتھا دن تھا۔

When they had sent unto the house of God Sherezer and Regem–melech, and their men, to pray before the LORD,

اُس وقت بیت ایل شہر نے سراضر اور رجم مَلِک کو اُس کے آدمیوں سمیت یروشلم بھیجا تھا تاکہ رب سے التماس کریں۔

And to speak unto the priests which were in the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?

ساتھ ساتھ اُنہیں رب الافواج کے گھر کے اماموں کو یہ سوال پیش کرنا تھا، ”اب ہم کئی سال سے پانچویں مہینے میں روزہ رکھ کر رب کے گھر کی تباہی پر ماتم کرتے آئے ہیں۔ کیا لازم ہے کہ ہم یہ دستور آئندہ بھی جاری رکھیں؟“

Then came the word of the LORD of hosts unto me, saying,

تب مجھے رب الافواج سے جواب ملا،

Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me?

”ملک کے تمام باشندوں اور اماموں سے کہہ، ’بےشک تم 70 سال سے پانچویں اور ساتویں مہینے میں روزہ رکھ کر ماتم کرتے آئے ہو۔ لیکن کیا تم نے یہ دستور واقعی میری خاطر ادا کیا؟ ہرگز نہیں!

And when ye did eat, and when ye did drink, did not ye eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves?

عیدوں پر بھی تم کھاتے پیتے وقت صرف اپنی ہی خاطر خوشی مناتے ہو۔

Should ye not hear the words which the LORD hath cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities thereof round about her, when men inhabited the south and the plain?

یہ وہی بات ہے جو مَیں نے ماضی میں بھی نبیوں کی معرفت تمہیں بتائی، اُس وقت جب یروشلم میں آبادی اور سکون تھا، جب گرد و نواح کے شہر دشتِ نجب اور مغرب کے نشیبی پہاڑی علاقے تک آباد تھے‘۔“

And the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah, saying,

اِس ناتے سے زکریاہ پر رب کا ایک اَور کلام نازل ہوا،

Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother:

”رب الافواج فرماتا ہے، ’عدالت میں منصفانہ فیصلے کرو، ایک دوسرے پر مہربانی اور رحم کرو!

And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.

بیواؤں، یتیموں، اجنبیوں اور غریبوں پر ظلم مت کرنا۔ اپنے دل میں ایک دوسرے کے خلاف بُرے منصوبے نہ باندھو۔‘

But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.

جب تمہارے باپ دادا نے یہ کچھ سنا تو وہ اِس پر دھیان دینے کے لئے تیار نہیں تھے بلکہ اکڑ گئے۔ اُنہوں نے اپنا منہ دوسری طرف پھیر کر اپنے کانوں کو بند کئے رکھا۔

Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts.

اُنہوں نے اپنے دلوں کو ہیرے کی طرح سخت کر لیا تاکہ شریعت اور وہ باتیں اُن پر اثرانداز نہ ہو سکیں جو رب الافواج نے اپنے روح کے وسیلے سے گذشتہ نبیوں کو بتانے کو کہا تھا۔ تب رب الافواج کا شدید غضب اُن پر نازل ہوا۔

Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of hosts:

وہ فرماتا ہے، ’چونکہ اُنہوں نے میری نہ سنی اِس لئے مَیں نے فیصلہ کیا کہ جب وہ مدد کے لئے مجھ سے التجا کریں تو مَیں بھی اُن کی نہیں سنوں گا۔

But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate.

مَیں نے اُنہیں آندھی سے اُڑا کر تمام دیگر اقوام میں منتشر کر دیا، ایسی قوموں میں جن سے وہ ناواقف تھے۔ اُن کے جانے پر وطن اِتنا ویران و سنسان ہوا کہ کوئی نہ رہا جو اُس میں آئے یا وہاں سے جائے۔ یوں اُنہوں نے اُس خوش گوار ملک کو تباہ کر دیا‘۔“
