Proverbs 9

Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:

حکمت نے اپنا گھر تعمیر کر کے اپنے لئے سات ستون تراش لئے ہیں۔

She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.

اپنے جانوروں کو ذبح کرنے اور اپنی مَے تیار کرنے کے بعد اُس نے اپنی میز بچھائی ہے۔

She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,

اب اُس نے اپنی نوکرانیوں کو بھیجا ہے، اور خود بھی لوگوں کو شہر کی بلندیوں سے ضیافت کرنے کی دعوت دیتی ہے،

Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

”جو سادہ لوح ہے، وہ میرے پاس آئے۔“ ناسمجھ لوگوں سے وہ کہتی ہے،

Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

”آؤ، میری روٹی کھاؤ، وہ مَے پیؤ جو مَیں نے تیار کر رکھی ہے۔

Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

اپنی سادہ لوح راہوں سے باز آؤ تو جیتے رہو گے، سمجھ کی راہ پر چل پڑو۔“

He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot.

جو لعن طعن کرنے والے کو تعلیم دے اُس کی اپنی رُسوائی ہو جائے گی، اور جو بےدین کو ڈانٹے اُسے نقصان پہنچے گا۔

Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.

لعن طعن کرنے والے کی ملامت نہ کر ورنہ وہ تجھ سے نفرت کرے گا۔ دانش مند کی ملامت کر تو وہ تجھ سے محبت کرے گا۔

Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

دانش مند کو ہدایت دے تو اُس کی حکمت مزید بڑھے گی، راست باز کو تعلیم دے تو وہ اپنے علم میں اضافہ کرے گا۔

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

رب کا خوف ماننے سے ہی حکمت شروع ہوتی ہے، قدوس خدا کو جاننے سے ہی سمجھ حاصل ہوتی ہے۔

For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

مجھ سے ہی تیری عمر کے دنوں اور سالوں میں اضافہ ہو گا۔

If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

اگر تُو دانش مند ہو تو خود اِس سے فائدہ اُٹھائے گا، اگر لعن طعن کرنے والا ہو تو تجھے ہی اِس کا نقصان جھیلنا پڑے گا۔

A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.

حماقت بی بی بےلگام اور ناسمجھ ہے، وہ کچھ نہیں جانتی۔

For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,

اُس کا گھر شہر کی بلندی پر واقع ہے۔ دروازے کے پاس کرسی پر بیٹھی

To call passengers who go right on their ways:

وہ گزرنے والوں کو جو سیدھی راہ پر چلتے ہیں اونچی آواز سے دعوت دیتی ہے،

Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

”جو سادہ لوح ہے وہ میرے پاس آئے۔“ جو ناسمجھ ہیں اُن سے وہ کہتی ہے،

Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.

”چوری کا پانی میٹھا اور پوشیدگی میں کھائی گئی روٹی لذیذ ہوتی ہے۔“

But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

لیکن اُنہیں معلوم نہیں کہ حماقت بی بی کے گھر میں صرف مُردوں کی روحیں بستی ہیں، کہ اُس کے مہمان پاتال کی گہرائیوں میں رہتے ہیں۔
