Proverbs 31

The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.

ذیل میں مسّا کے بادشاہ لموایل کی کہاوتیں ہیں۔ اُس کی ماں نے اُسے یہ تعلیم دی،

What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?

اے میرے بیٹے، میرے پیٹ کے پھل، جو میری مَنتوں سے پیدا ہوا، مَیں تجھے کیا بتاؤں؟

Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.

اپنی پوری طاقت عورتوں پر ضائع نہ کر، اُن پر جو بادشاہوں کی تباہی کا باعث ہیں۔

It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:

اے لموایل، بادشاہوں کے لئے مَے پینا مناسب نہیں، حکمرانوں کے لئے شراب کی آرزو رکھنا موزوں نہیں۔

Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

ایسا نہ ہو کہ وہ پی پی کر قوانین بھول جائیں اور تمام مظلوموں کا حق ماریں۔

Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.

شراب اُنہیں پلا جو تباہ ہونے والے ہیں، مَے اُنہیں پلا جو غم کھاتے ہیں،

Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

ایسے ہی پی پی کر اپنی غربت اور مصیبت بھول جائیں۔

Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.

اپنا منہ اُن کے لئے کھول جو بول نہیں سکتے، اُن کے حق میں جو ضرورت مند ہیں۔

Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

اپنا منہ کھول کر انصاف سے عدالت کر اور مصیبت زدہ اور غریبوں کے حقوق محفوظ رکھ۔

Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

سُگھڑ بیوی کون پا سکتا ہے؟ ایسی عورت موتیوں سے کہیں زیادہ بیش قیمت ہے۔

The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

اُس پر اُس کے شوہر کو پورا اعتماد ہے، اور وہ نفع سے محروم نہیں رہے گا۔

She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

عمر بھر وہ اُسے نقصان نہیں پہنچائے گی بلکہ برکت کا باعث ہو گی۔

She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

وہ اُون اور سَن چن کر بڑی محنت سے دھاگا بنا لیتی ہے۔

She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

تجارتی جہازوں کی طرح وہ دُوردراز علاقوں سے اپنی روٹی لے آتی ہے۔

She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

وہ پَو پھٹنے سے پہلے ہی جاگ اُٹھتی ہے تاکہ اپنے گھر والوں کے لئے کھانا اور اپنی نوکرانیوں کے لئے اُن کا حصہ تیار کرے۔

She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

سوچ بچار کے بعد وہ کھیت خرید لیتی، اپنے کمائے ہوئے پیسوں سے انگور کا باغ لگا لیتی ہے۔

She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

طاقت سے کمربستہ ہو کر وہ اپنے بازوؤں کو مضبوط کرتی ہے۔

She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

وہ محسوس کرتی ہے، ”میرا کاروبار فائدہ مند ہے،“ اِس لئے اُس کا چراغ رات کے وقت بھی نہیں بجھتا۔

She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

اُس کے ہاتھ ہر وقت اُون اور کتان کاتنے میں مصروف رہتے ہیں۔

She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

وہ اپنی مٹھی مصیبت زدوں اور غریبوں کے لئے کھول کر اُن کی مدد کرتی ہے۔

She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

جب برف پڑے تو اُسے گھر والوں کے بارے میں کوئی ڈر نہیں، کیونکہ سب گرم گرم کپڑے پہنے ہوئے ہیں۔

She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

اپنے بستر کے لئے وہ اچھے کمبل بنا لیتی، اور خود وہ باریک کتان اور ارغوانی رنگ کے لباس پہنے پھرتی ہے۔

Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

شہر کے دروازے میں بیٹھے ملک کے بزرگ اُس کے شوہر سے خوب واقف ہیں، اور جب کبھی کوئی فیصلہ کرنا ہو تو وہ بھی شوریٰ میں شریک ہوتا ہے۔

She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

بیوی کپڑوں کی سلائی کر کے اُنہیں فروخت کرتی ہے، سوداگر اُس کے کمربند خرید لیتے ہیں۔

Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

وہ طاقت اور وقار سے ملبّس رہتی اور ہنس کر آنے والے دنوں کا سامنا کرتی ہے۔

She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

وہ حکمت سے بات کرتی، اور اُس کی زبان پر شفیق تعلیم رہتی ہے۔

She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

وہ سُستی کی روٹی نہیں کھاتی بلکہ اپنے گھر میں ہر معاملے کی دیکھ بھال کرتی ہے۔

Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

اُس کے بیٹے کھڑے ہو کر اُسے مبارک کہتے ہیں، اُس کا شوہر بھی اُس کی تعریف کر کے کہتا ہے،

Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

”بہت سی عورتیں سُگھڑ ثابت ہوئی ہیں، لیکن تُو اُن سب پر سبقت رکھتی ہے!“

Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

دل فریبی، دھوکا اور حُسن پل بھر کا ہے، لیکن جو عورت اللہ کا خوف مانے وہ قابلِ تعریف ہے۔

Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.

اُسے اُس کی محنت کا اجر دو! شہر کے دروازوں میں اُس کے کام اُس کی ستائش کریں!
