Nehemiah 4

But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.

جب سنبلّط کو پتا چلا کہ ہم فصیل کو دوبارہ تعمیر کر رہے ہیں تو وہ آگ بگولا ہو گیا۔ ہمارا مذاق اُڑا اُڑا کر

And he spake before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What do these feeble Jews? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned?

اُس نے اپنے ہم خدمت افسروں اور سامریہ کے فوجیوں کی موجودگی میں کہا، ”یہ ضعیف یہودی کیا کر رہے ہیں؟ کیا یہ واقعی یروشلم کی قلعہ بندی کرنا چاہتے ہیں؟ کیا یہ سمجھتے ہیں کہ چند ایک قربانیاں پیش کر کے ہم فصیل کو آج ہی کھڑا کریں گے؟ وہ اِن جلے ہوئے پتھروں اور ملبے کے اِس ڈھیر سے کس طرح نئی دیوار بنا سکتے ہیں؟“

Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, Even that which they build, if a fox go up, he shall even break down their stone wall.

عمونی افسر طوبیاہ اُس کے ساتھ کھڑا تھا۔ وہ بولا، ”اُنہیں کرنے دو! دیوار اِتنی کمزور ہو گی کہ اگر لومڑی بھی اُس پر چھلانگ لگائے تو گر جائے گی۔“

Hear, O our God; for we are despised: and turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of captivity:

اے ہمارے خدا، ہماری سن، کیونکہ لوگ ہمیں حقیر جانتے ہیں۔ جن باتوں سے اُنہوں نے ہمیں ذلیل کیا ہے وہ اُن کی ذلت کا باعث بن جائیں۔ بخش دے کہ لوگ اُنہیں لُوٹ لیں اور اُنہیں قید کر کے جلاوطن کر دیں۔

And cover not their iniquity, and let not their sin be blotted out from before thee: for they have provoked thee to anger before the builders.

اُن کا قصور نظرانداز نہ کر بلکہ اُن کے گناہ تجھے یاد رہیں۔ کیونکہ اُنہوں نے فصیل کو تعمیر کرنے والوں کو ذلیل کرنے سے تجھے طیش دلایا ہے۔

So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work.

مخالفت کے باوجود ہم فصیل کی مرمت کرتے رہے، اور ہوتے ہوتے پوری دیوار کی آدھی اونچائی کھڑی ہوئی، کیونکہ لوگ پوری لگن سے کام کر رہے تھے۔

But it came to pass, that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth,

جب سنبلّط، طوبیاہ، عربوں، عمونیوں اور اشدود کے باشندوں کو اطلاع ملی کہ یروشلم کی فصیل کی تعمیر میں ترقی ہو رہی ہے بلکہ جو حصے اب تک کھڑے نہ ہو سکے تھے وہ بھی بند ہونے لگے ہیں تو وہ بڑے غصے میں آ گئے۔

And conspired all of them together to come and to fight against Jerusalem, and to hinder it.

سب متحد ہو کر یروشلم پر حملہ کرنے اور اُس میں گڑبڑ پیدا کرنے کی سازشیں کرنے لگے۔

Nevertheless we made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.

لیکن ہم نے اپنے خدا سے التماس کر کے پہرے دار لگائے جو ہمیں دن رات اُن سے بچائے رکھیں۔

And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall.

اُس وقت یہوداہ کے لوگ کراہنے لگے، ”مزدوروں کی طاقت ختم ہو رہی ہے، اور ابھی تک ملبے کے بڑے ڈھیر باقی ہیں۔ فصیل کو بنانا ہمارے بس کی بات نہیں ہے۔“

And our adversaries said, They shall not know, neither see, till we come in the midst among them, and slay them, and cause the work to cease.

دوسری طرف دشمن کہہ رہے تھے، ”ہم اچانک اُن پر ٹوٹ پڑیں گے۔ اُن کو اُس وقت پتا چلے گا جب ہم اُن کے بیچ میں ہوں گے۔ تب ہم اُنہیں مار دیں گے اور کام رُک جائے گا۔“

And it came to pass, that when the Jews which dwelt by them came, they said unto us ten times, From all places whence ye shall return unto us they will be upon you.

جو یہودی اُن کے قریب رہتے تھے وہ بار بار ہمارے پاس آ کر ہمیں اطلاع دیتے رہے، ”دشمن چاروں طرف سے آپ پر حملہ کرنے کے لئے تیار کھڑا ہے۔“

Therefore set I in the lower places behind the wall, and on the higher places, I even set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows.

تب مَیں نے لوگوں کو فصیل کے پیچھے ایک جگہ کھڑا کر دیا جہاں دیوار سب سے نیچی تھی، اور وہ تلواروں، نیزوں اور کمانوں سے لیس اپنے خاندانوں کے مطابق کھلے میدان میں کھڑے ہو گئے۔

And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.

لوگوں کا جائزہ لے کر مَیں کھڑا ہوا اور کہنے لگا، ”اُن سے مت ڈریں! رب کو یاد کریں جو عظیم اور مہیب ہے۔ ذہن میں رکھیں کہ ہم اپنے بھائیوں، بیٹوں بیٹیوں، بیویوں اور گھروں کے لئے لڑ رہے ہیں۔“

And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that it was known unto us, and God had brought their counsel to nought, that we returned all of us to the wall, every one unto his work.

جب ہمارے دشمنوں کو معلوم ہوا کہ اُن کی سازشوں کی خبر ہم تک پہنچ گئی ہے اور کہ اللہ نے اُن کے منصوبے کو ناکام ہونے دیا تو ہم سب اپنی اپنی جگہ پر دوبارہ تعمیر کے کام میں لگ گئے۔

And it came to pass from that time forth, that the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the habergeons; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah.

لیکن اُس دن سے میرے جوانوں کا صرف آدھا حصہ تعمیری کام میں لگا رہا۔ باقی لوگ نیزوں، ڈھالوں، کمانوں اور زرہ بکتر سے لیس پہرہ دیتے رہے۔ افسر یہوداہ کے اُن تمام لوگوں کے پیچھے کھڑے رہے

They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon.

جو دیوار کو تعمیر کر رہے تھے۔ سامان اُٹھانے والے ایک ہاتھ سے ہتھیار پکڑے کام کرتے تھے۔

For the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and so builded. And he that sounded the trumpet was by me.

اور جو بھی دیوار کو کھڑا کر رہا تھا اُس کی تلوار کمر میں بندھی رہتی تھی۔ جس آدمی کو تُرم بجا کر خطرے کا اعلان کرنا تھا وہ ہمیشہ میرے ساتھ رہا۔

And I said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, The work is great and large, and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another.

مَیں نے شرفا، بزرگوں اور باقی لوگوں سے کہا، ”یہ کام بہت ہی بڑا اور وسیع ہے، اِس لئے ہم ایک دوسرے سے دُور اور بکھرے ہوئے کام کر رہے ہیں۔

In what place therefore ye hear the sound of the trumpet, resort ye thither unto us: our God shall fight for us.

جوں ہی آپ کو تُرم کی آواز سنائی دے تو بھاگ کر آواز کی طرف چلے آئیں۔ ہمارا خدا ہمارے لئے لڑے گا!“

So we laboured in the work: and half of them held the spears from the rising of the morning till the stars appeared.

ہم پَو پھٹنے سے لے کر اُس وقت تک کام میں مصروف رہتے جب تک ستارے نظر نہ آتے، اور ہر وقت آدمیوں کا آدھا حصہ نیزے پکڑے پہرہ دیتا تھا۔

Likewise at the same time said I unto the people, Let every one with his servant lodge within Jerusalem, that in the night they may be a guard to us, and labour on the day.

اُس وقت مَیں نے سب کو یہ حکم بھی دیا، ”ہر آدمی اپنے مددگاروں کے ساتھ رات کا وقت یروشلم میں گزارے۔ پھر آپ رات کے وقت پہرہ داری میں بھی مدد کریں گے اور دن کے وقت تعمیری کام میں بھی۔“

So neither I, nor my brethren, nor my servants, nor the men of the guard which followed me, none of us put off our clothes, saving that every one put them off for washing.

اُن تمام دنوں کے دوران نہ مَیں، نہ میرے بھائیوں، نہ میرے جوانوں اور نہ میرے پہرے داروں نے کبھی اپنے کپڑے اُتارے۔ نیز، ہر ایک اپنا ہتھیار پکڑے رہا۔
