Luke 7

Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.

یہ سب کچھ لوگوں کو سنانے کے بعد عیسیٰ کفرنحوم چلا گیا۔

And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die.

وہاں سَو فوجیوں پر مقرر ایک افسر رہتا تھا۔ اُن دنوں میں اُس کا ایک غلام جو اُسے بہت عزیز تھا بیمار پڑ گیا۔ اب وہ مرنے کو تھا۔

And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.

چونکہ افسر نے عیسیٰ کے بارے میں سنا تھا اِس لئے اُس نے یہودیوں کے کچھ بزرگ یہ درخواست کرنے کے لئے اُس کے پاس بھیج دیئے کہ وہ آ کر غلام کو شفا دے۔

And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:

وہ عیسیٰ کے پاس پہنچ کر بڑے زور سے التجا کرنے لگے، ”یہ آدمی اِس لائق ہے کہ آپ اُس کی درخواست پوری کریں،

For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.

کیونکہ وہ ہماری قوم سے پیار کرتا ہے، یہاں تک کہ اُس نے ہمارے لئے عبادت خانہ بھی تعمیر کروایا ہے۔“

Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof:

چنانچہ عیسیٰ اُن کے ساتھ چل پڑا۔ لیکن جب وہ گھر کے قریب پہنچ گیا تو افسر نے اپنے کچھ دوست یہ کہہ کر اُس کے پاس بھیج دیئے کہ ”خداوند، میرے گھر میں آنے کی تکلیف نہ کریں، کیونکہ مَیں اِس لائق نہیں ہوں۔

Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.

اِس لئے مَیں نے خود کو آپ کے پاس آنے کے لائق بھی نہ سمجھا۔ بس وہیں سے کہہ دیں تو میرا غلام شفا پا جائے گا۔

For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.

کیونکہ مجھے خود اعلیٰ افسروں کے حکم پر چلنا پڑتا ہے اور میرے ماتحت بھی فوجی ہیں۔ ایک کو کہتا ہوں، ’جا!‘ تو وہ جاتا ہے اور دوسرے کو ’آ!‘ تو وہ آتا ہے۔ اِسی طرح مَیں اپنے نوکر کو حکم دیتا ہوں، ’یہ کر!‘ تو وہ کرتا ہے۔“

When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

یہ سن کر عیسیٰ نہایت حیران ہوا۔ اُس نے مُڑ کر اپنے پیچھے آنے والے ہجوم سے کہا، ”مَیں تم کو سچ بتاتا ہوں، مَیں نے اسرائیل میں بھی اِس قسم کا ایمان نہیں پایا۔“

And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.

جب افسر کا پیغام پہنچانے والے گھر واپس آئے تو اُنہوں نے دیکھا کہ غلام کی صحت بحال ہو چکی ہے۔

And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people.

کچھ دیر کے بعد عیسیٰ اپنے شاگردوں کے ساتھ نائن شہر کے لئے روانہ ہوا۔ ایک بڑا ہجوم بھی ساتھ چل رہا تھا۔

Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.

جب وہ شہر کے دروازے کے قریب پہنچا تو ایک جنازہ نکلا۔ جو نوجوان فوت ہوا تھا اُس کی ماں بیوہ تھی اور وہ اُس کا اکلوتا بیٹا تھا۔ ماں کے ساتھ شہر کے بہت سے لوگ چل رہے تھے۔

And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.

اُسے دیکھ کر خداوند کو اُس پر بڑا ترس آیا۔ اُس نے اُس سے کہا، ”مت رو۔“

And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.

پھر وہ جنازے کے پاس گیا اور اُسے چھوا۔ اُسے اُٹھانے والے رُک گئے تو عیسیٰ نے کہا، ”اے نوجوان، مَیں تجھے کہتا ہوں کہ اُٹھ!“

And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.

مُردہ اُٹھ بیٹھا اور بولنے لگا۔ عیسیٰ نے اُسے اُس کی ماں کے سپرد کر دیا۔

And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.

یہ دیکھ کر تمام لوگوں پر خوف طاری ہو گیا اور وہ اللہ کی تمجید کر کے کہنے لگے، ”ہمارے درمیان ایک بڑا نبی برپا ہوا ہے۔ اللہ نے اپنی قوم پر نظر کی ہے۔“

And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judæa, and throughout all the region round about.

اور عیسیٰ کے بارے میں یہ خبر پورے یہودیہ اور ارد گرد کے علاقے میں پھیل گئی۔

And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things.

یحییٰ کو بھی اپنے شاگردوں کی معرفت اِن تمام واقعات کے بارے میں پتا چلا۔ اِس پر اُس نے دو شاگردوں کو بُلا کر

And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?

اُنہیں یہ پوچھنے کے لئے خداوند کے پاس بھیجا، ”کیا آپ وہی ہیں جسے آنا ہے یا ہم کسی اَور کے انتظار میں رہیں؟“

When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?

چنانچہ یہ شاگرد عیسیٰ کے پاس پہنچ کر کہنے لگے، ”یحییٰ بپتسمہ دینے والے نے ہمیں یہ پوچھنے کے لئے بھیجا ہے کہ کیا آپ وہی ہیں جسے آنا ہے یا ہم کسی اَور کا انتظار کریں؟“

And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.

عیسیٰ نے اُسی وقت بہت سے لوگوں کو شفا دی تھی جو مختلف قسم کی بیماریوں، مصیبتوں اور بدروحوں کی گرفت میں تھے۔ اندھوں کی آنکھیں بھی بحال ہو گئی تھیں۔

Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.

اِس لئے اُس نے جواب میں یحییٰ کے قاصدوں سے کہا، ”یحییٰ کے پاس واپس جا کر اُسے سب کچھ بتا دینا جو تم نے دیکھا اور سنا ہے۔ ’اندھے دیکھتے، لنگڑے چلتے پھرتے ہیں، کوڑھیوں کو پاک صاف کیا جاتا ہے، بہرے سنتے ہیں، مُردوں کو زندہ کیا جاتا ہے اور غریبوں کو اللہ کی خوش خبری سنائی جاتی ہے۔‘

And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

یحییٰ کو بتاؤ، ’مبارک ہے وہ جو میرے سبب سے ٹھوکر کھا کر برگشتہ نہیں ہوتا‘۔“

And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

یحییٰ کے یہ قاصد چلے گئے تو عیسیٰ ہجوم سے یحییٰ کے بارے میں بات کرنے لگا، ”تم ریگستان میں کیا دیکھنے گئے تھے؟ ایک سرکنڈا جو ہَوا کے ہر جھونکے سے ہلتا ہے؟ بےشک نہیں۔

But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings' courts.

یا کیا وہاں جا کر ایسے آدمی کی توقع کر رہے تھے جو نفیس اور ملائم لباس پہنے ہوئے ہے؟ نہیں، جو شاندار کپڑے پہنتے اور عیش و عشرت میں زندگی گزارتے ہیں وہ شاہی محلوں میں پائے جاتے ہیں۔

But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.

تو پھر تم کیا دیکھنے گئے تھے؟ ایک نبی کو؟ بالکل صحیح، بلکہ مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں کہ وہ نبی سے بھی بڑا ہے۔

This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

اُسی کے بارے میں کلامِ مُقدّس میں لکھا ہے، ’دیکھ مَیں اپنے پیغمبر کو تیرے آگے آگے بھیج دیتا ہوں جو تیرے سامنے راستہ تیار کرے گا۔‘

For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

مَیں تم کو بتاتا ہوں کہ اِس دنیا میں پیدا ہونے والا کوئی بھی شخص یحییٰ سے بڑا نہیں ہے۔ توبھی اللہ کی بادشاہی میں داخل ہونے والا سب سے چھوٹا شخص اُس سے بڑا ہے۔“

And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.

بات یہ تھی کہ تمام قوم بشمول ٹیکس لینے والوں نے یحییٰ کا پیغام سن کر اللہ کا انصاف مان لیا اور یحییٰ سے بپتسمہ لیا تھا۔

But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.

صرف فریسی اور شریعت کے علما نے اپنے بارے میں اللہ کی مرضی کو رد کر کے یحییٰ کا بپتسمہ لینے سے انکار کیا تھا۔

And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like?

عیسیٰ نے بات جاری رکھی، ”چنانچہ مَیں اِس نسل کے لوگوں کو کس سے تشبیہ دوں؟ وہ کس سے مطابقت رکھتے ہیں؟

They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.

وہ اُن بچوں کی مانند ہیں جو بازار میں بیٹھے کھیل رہے ہیں۔ اُن میں سے کچھ اونچی آواز سے دوسرے بچوں سے شکایت کر رہے ہیں، ’ہم نے بانسری بجائی تو تم نہ ناچے۔ پھر ہم نے نوحہ کے گیت گائے، لیکن تم نہ روئے۔‘

For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil.

دیکھو، یحییٰ بپتسمہ دینے والا آیا اور نہ روٹی کھائی، نہ مَے پی۔ یہ دیکھ کر تم کہتے ہو کہ اُس میں بدروح ہے۔

The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!

پھر ابنِ آدم کھاتا اور پیتا ہوا آیا۔ اب تم کہتے ہو، ’دیکھو یہ کیسا پیٹو اور شرابی ہے۔ اور وہ ٹیکس لینے والوں اور گناہ گاروں کا دوست بھی ہے۔‘

But wisdom is justified of all her children.

لیکن حکمت اپنے تمام بچوں سے ہی صحیح ثابت ہوئی ہے۔“

And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.

ایک فریسی نے عیسیٰ کو کھانا کھانے کی دعوت دی۔ عیسیٰ اُس کے گھر جا کر کھانا کھانے کے لئے بیٹھ گیا۔

And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,

اُس شہر میں ایک بدچلن عورت رہتی تھی۔ جب اُسے پتا چلا کہ عیسیٰ اُس فریسی کے گھر میں کھانا کھا رہا ہے تو وہ عطردان میں بیش قیمت عطر لا کر

And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

پیچھے سے اُس کے پاؤں کے پاس کھڑی ہو گئی۔ وہ رو پڑی اور اُس کے آنسو ٹپک ٹپک کر عیسیٰ کے پاؤں کو تر کرنے لگے۔ پھر اُس نے اُس کے پاؤں کو اپنے بالوں سے پونچھ کر اُنہیں چوما اور اُن پر عطر ڈالا۔

Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.

جب عیسیٰ کے فریسی میزبان نے یہ دیکھا تو اُس نے دل میں کہا، ”اگر یہ آدمی نبی ہوتا تو اُسے معلوم ہوتا کہ یہ کس قسم کی عورت ہے جو اُسے چھو رہی ہے، کہ یہ گناہ گار ہے۔“

And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.

عیسیٰ نے اِن خیالات کے جواب میں اُس سے کہا، ”شمعون، مَیں تجھے کچھ بتانا چاہتا ہوں۔“ اُس نے کہا، ”جی اُستاد، بتائیں۔“

There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty.

عیسیٰ نے کہا، ”ایک ساہو کار کے دو قرض دار تھے۔ ایک کو اُس نے چاندی کے 500 سِکے دیئے تھے اور دوسرے کو 50 سِکے۔

And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most?

لیکن دونوں اپنا قرض ادا نہ کر سکے۔ یہ دیکھ کر اُس نے دونوں کا قرض معاف کر دیا۔ اب مجھے بتا، دونوں قرض داروں میں سے کون اُسے زیادہ عزیز رکھے گا؟“

Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.

شمعون نے جواب دیا، ”میرے خیال میں وہ جسے زیادہ معاف کیا گیا۔“ عیسیٰ نے کہا، ”تُو نے ٹھیک اندازہ لگایا ہے۔“

And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.

اور عورت کی طرف مُڑ کر اُس نے شمعون سے بات جاری رکھی، ”کیا تُو اِس عورت کو دیکھتا ہے؟

Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.

جب مَیں اِس گھر میں آیا تو تُو نے مجھے پاؤں دھونے کے لئے پانی نہ دیا۔ لیکن اِس نے میرے پاؤں کو اپنے آنسوؤں سے تر کر کے اپنے بالوں سے پونچھ کر خشک کر دیا ہے۔ تُو نے مجھے بوسہ نہ دیا، لیکن یہ میرے اندر آنے سے لے کر اب تک میرے پاؤں کو چومنے سے باز نہیں رہی۔

My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.

تُو نے میرے سر پر زیتون کا تیل نہ ڈالا، لیکن اِس نے میرے پاؤں پر عطر ڈالا۔

Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

اِس لئے مَیں تجھے بتاتا ہوں کہ اِس کے گناہوں کو گو وہ بہت ہیں معاف کر دیا گیا ہے، کیونکہ اِس نے بہت محبت کا اظہار کیا ہے۔ لیکن جسے کم معاف کیا گیا ہو وہ کم محبت رکھتا ہے۔“

And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.

پھر عیسیٰ نے عورت سے کہا، ”تیرے گناہوں کو معاف کر دیا گیا ہے۔“

And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also?

یہ سن کر جو ساتھ بیٹھے تھے آپس میں کہنے لگے، ”یہ کس قسم کا شخص ہے جو گناہوں کو بھی معاف کرتا ہے؟“

And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

لیکن عیسیٰ نے خاتون سے کہا، ”تیرے ایمان نے تجھے بچا لیا ہے۔ سلامتی سے چلی جا۔“
