Jeremiah 5

Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.

”یروشلم کی گلیوں میں گھومو پھرو! ہر جگہ کا ملاحظہ کر کے پتا کرو کہ کیا ہو رہا ہے۔ اُس کے چوکوں کی تفتیش بھی کرو۔ اگر تمہیں ایک بھی شخص مل جائے جو انصاف کرے اور دیانت داری کا طالب رہے تو مَیں شہر کو معاف کر دوں گا۔

And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely.

وہ رب کی حیات کی قَسم کھاتے وقت بھی جھوٹ بولتے ہیں۔“

O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.

اے رب، تیری آنکھیں دیانت داری دیکھنا چاہتی ہیں۔ تُو نے اُنہیں مارا، لیکن اُنہیں دُکھ نہ ہوا۔ تُو نے اُنہیں کچل ڈالا، لیکن وہ تربیت پانے کے لئے تیار نہیں۔ اُنہوں نے اپنے چہرے کو پتھر سے کہیں زیادہ سخت بنا کر توبہ کرنے سے انکار کیا ہے۔

Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.

مَیں نے سوچا، ”صرف غریب لوگ ایسے ہیں۔ یہ اِس لئے احمقانہ حرکتیں کر رہے ہیں کہ رب کی راہ اور اپنے خدا کی شریعت سے واقف نہیں ہیں۔

I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.

آؤ، مَیں بزرگوں کے پاس جا کر اُن سے بات کرتا ہوں۔ وہ تو ضرور رب کی راہ اور اللہ کی شریعت کو جانتے ہوں گے۔“ لیکن افسوس، سب کے سب نے اپنے جوئے اور رسّے توڑ ڈالے ہیں۔

Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.

اِس لئے شیرببر جنگل سے نکل کر اُن پر حملہ کرے گا، بھیڑیا بیابان سے آ کر اُنہیں برباد کرے گا، چیتا اُن کے شہروں کے قریب تاک میں بیٹھ کر ہر نکلنے والے کو پھاڑ ڈالے گا۔ کیونکہ وہ بار بار سرکش ہوئے ہیں، متعدد دفعہ اُنہوں نے اپنی بےوفائی کا اظہار کیا ہے۔

How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses.

”مَیں تجھے کیسے معاف کروں؟ تیری اولاد نے مجھے ترک کر کے اُن کی قَسم کھائی ہے جو خدا نہیں ہیں۔ گو مَیں نے اُن کی ہر ضرورت پوری کی توبھی اُنہوں نے زنا کیا، چکلے کے سامنے اُن کی لمبی قطاریں لگی رہیں۔

They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour's wife.

یہ لوگ موٹے تازے گھوڑے ہیں جو مستی میں آ گئے ہیں۔ ہر ایک ہنہناتا ہوا اپنے پڑوسی کی بیوی کو آنکھ مارتا ہے۔“

Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

رب فرماتا ہے، ”کیا مَیں جواب میں اُنہیں سزا نہ دوں؟ کیا مَیں ایسی قوم سے انتقام نہ لوں؟

Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the LORD'S.

جاؤ، اُس کے انگور کے باغوں پر ٹوٹ پڑو اور سب کچھ برباد کر دو۔ لیکن اُنہیں مکمل طور پر ختم مت کرنا۔ بیلوں کی شاخوں کو دُور کرو، کیونکہ وہ رب کے لوگ نہیں ہیں۔“

For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the LORD.

کیونکہ رب فرماتا ہے، ”اسرائیل اور یہوداہ کے باشندے ہر طرح سے مجھ سے بےوفا رہے ہیں۔

They have belied the LORD, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:

اُنہوں نے رب کا انکار کر کے کہا ہے، ’وہ کچھ نہیں کرے گا۔ ہم پر مصیبت نہیں آئے گی۔ ہمیں نہ تلوار، نہ کال سے نقصان پہنچے گا۔

And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.

نبیوں کی کیا حیثیت ہے؟ وہ تو بکواس ہی کرتے ہیں، اور رب کا کلام اُن میں نہیں ہے۔ بلکہ اُن ہی کے ساتھ ایسا کیا جائے گا‘۔“

Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

اِس لئے رب لشکروں کا خدا فرماتا ہے، ”اے یرمیاہ، چونکہ لوگ ایسی باتیں کر رہے ہیں اِس لئے تیرے منہ میں میرے الفاظ آگ بن کر اِس قوم کو لکڑی کی طرح بھسم کر دیں گے۔“

Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.

رب فرماتا ہے، ”اے اسرائیل، مَیں دُور کی قوم کو تیرے خلاف بھیجوں گا، ایسی پختہ اور قدیم قوم جس کی زبان تُو نہیں جانتا اور جس کی باتیں تُو نہیں سمجھتا۔

Their quiver is as an open sepulchre, they are all mighty men.

اُن کے ترکش کھلی قبریں ہیں، سب کے سب زبردست سورمے ہیں۔

And they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall impoverish thy fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword.

وہ سب کچھ ہڑپ کر لیں گے: تیری فصلیں، تیری خوراک، تیرے بیٹے بیٹیاں، تیری بھیڑبکریاں، تیرے گائےبَیل، تیری انگور کی بیلیں اور تیرے انجیر کے درخت۔ جن قلعہ بند شہروں پر تم بھروسا رکھتے ہو اُنہیں وہ تلوار سے خاک میں ملا دیں گے۔

Nevertheless in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you.

پھر بھی مَیں اُس وقت تمہیں مکمل طور پر برباد نہیں کروں گا۔“ یہ رب کا فرمان ہے۔

And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not yours.

”اے یرمیاہ، اگر لوگ تجھ سے پوچھیں، ’رب ہمارے خدا نے یہ سب کچھ ہمارے ساتھ کیوں کیا؟‘ تو اُنہیں بتا، ’تم مجھے ترک کر کے اپنے وطن میں اجنبی معبودوں کی خدمت کرتے رہے ہو، اِس لئے تم وطن سے دُور ملک میں اجنبیوں کی خدمت کرو گے۔‘

Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,

اسرائیل میں اعلان کرو اور یہوداہ کو اطلاع دو

Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not:

کہ اے بےوقوف اور ناسمجھ قوم، سنو! لیکن افسوس، اُن کی آنکھیں تو ہیں لیکن وہ دیکھ نہیں سکتے، اُن کے کان تو ہیں لیکن وہ سن نہیں سکتے۔“

Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?

رب فرماتا ہے، ”کیا تمہیں میرا خوف نہیں ماننا چاہئے، میرے حضور نہیں کانپنا چاہئے؟ سوچ لو! مَیں ہی نے ریت سے سمندر کی سرحد مقرر کی، ایک ایسی باڑ بنائی جس پر سے وہ کبھی نہیں گزر سکتا۔ گو وہ زور سے لہریں مارے توبھی ناکام رہتا ہے، گو اُس کی موجیں خوب گرجیں توبھی مقررہ حد سے آگے نہیں بڑھ سکتیں۔

But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone.

لیکن افسوس، اِس قوم کا دل ضدی اور سرکش ہے۔ یہ لوگ صحیح راہ سے ہٹ کر اپنی ہی راہوں پر چل پڑے ہیں۔

Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.

وہ دل میں کبھی نہیں کہتے، ’آؤ، ہم رب اپنے خدا کا خوف مانیں۔ کیونکہ وہی ہمیں وقت پر خزاں اور بہار کے موسم میں بارش مہیا کرتا ہے، وہی اِس کی ضمانت دیتا ہے کہ ہماری فصلیں باقاعدگی سے پک جائیں۔‘

Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you.

اب تمہارے غلط کاموں نے تمہیں اِن نعمتوں سے محروم کر دیا، تمہارے گناہوں نے تمہیں اِن اچھی چیزوں سے روک رکھا ہے۔

For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men.

کیونکہ میری قوم میں ایسے بےدین افراد پائے جاتے ہیں جو دوسروں کی تاک لگائے رہتے ہیں۔ جس طرح شکاری پرندے پکڑنے کے لئے جھک کر چھپ جاتا ہے، اُسی طرح وہ دوسروں کی گھات میں بیٹھ جاتے ہیں۔ وہ پھندے لگا کر لوگوں کو اُن میں پھنساتے ہیں۔

As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich.

اور جس طرح شکاری اپنے پنجرے کو چڑیوں سے بھر دیتا ہے اُسی طرح اِن شریر لوگوں کے گھر فریب سے بھرے رہتے ہیں۔ اپنی چالوں سے وہ امیر، طاقت ور

They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.

اور موٹے تازے ہو گئے ہیں۔ اُن کے غلط کاموں کی حد نہیں رہتی۔ وہ انصاف کرتے ہی نہیں۔ نہ وہ یتیموں کی مدد کرتے ہیں تاکہ اُنہیں وہ کچھ مل جائے جو اُن کا حق ہے، نہ غریبوں کے حقوق قائم رکھتے ہیں۔“

Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

رب فرماتا ہے، ”اب مجھے بتاؤ، کیا مجھے اُنہیں اِس کی سزا نہیں دینی چاہئے؟ کیا مجھے اِس قسم کی حرکتیں کرنے والی قوم سے بدلہ نہیں لینا چاہئے؟

A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land;

جو کچھ ملک میں ہوا ہے وہ ہول ناک اور قابلِ گھن ہے۔

The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?

کیونکہ نبی جھوٹی پیش گوئیاں سناتے اور امام اپنی ہی مرضی سے حکومت کرتے ہیں۔ اور میری قوم اُن کا یہ رویہ عزیز رکھتی ہے۔ لیکن مجھے بتاؤ، جب یہ سب کچھ ختم ہو جائے گا تو پھر تم کیا کرو گے؟
