James 4

From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

یہ لڑائیاں اور جھگڑے جو آپ کے درمیان ہیں کہاں سے آتے ہیں؟ کیا اِن کا سرچشمہ وہ بُری خواہشات نہیں جو آپ کے اعضا میں لڑتی رہتی ہیں؟

Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

آپ کسی چیز کی خواہش رکھتے ہیں، لیکن اُسے حاصل نہیں کر سکتے۔ آپ قتل اور حسد کرتے ہیں، لیکن جو کچھ آپ چاہتے ہیں وہ پا نہیں سکتے۔ آپ جھگڑتے اور لڑتے ہیں۔ توبھی آپ کے پاس کچھ نہیں ہے، کیونکہ آپ اللہ سے مانگتے نہیں۔

Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

اور جب آپ مانگتے ہیں تو آپ کو کچھ نہیں ملتا۔ وجہ یہ ہے کہ آپ غلط نیت سے مانگتے ہیں۔ آپ اِس سے اپنی خود غرض خواہشات پوری کرنا چاہتے ہیں۔

Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

بےوفا لوگو! کیا آپ کو نہیں معلوم کہ دنیا کا دوست اللہ کا دشمن ہوتا ہے؟ جو دنیا کا دوست بننا چاہتا ہے وہ اللہ کا دشمن بن جاتا ہے۔

Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

یا کیا آپ سمجھتے ہیں کہ کلامِ مُقدّس کی یہ بات بےتُکی سی ہے کہ اللہ غیرت سے اُس روح کا آرزومند ہے جس کو اُس نے ہمارے اندر سکونت کرنے دیا؟

But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

لیکن وہ ہمیں اِس سے کہیں زیادہ فضل بخشتا ہے۔ کلامِ مُقدّس یوں فرماتا ہے، ”اللہ مغروروں کا مقابلہ کرتا لیکن فروتنوں پر مہربانی کرتا ہے۔“

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

غرض، اللہ کے تابع ہو جائیں۔ ابلیس کا مقابلہ کریں تو وہ بھاگ جائے گا۔

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

اللہ کے قریب آ جائیں تو وہ آپ کے قریب آئے گا۔ گناہ گارو، اپنے ہاتھوں کو پاک صاف کریں۔ دو دلو، اپنے دلوں کو مخصوص و مُقدّس کریں۔

Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

افسوس کریں، ماتم کریں، خوب روئیں۔ آپ کی ہنسی ماتم میں بدل جائے اور آپ کی خوشی مایوسی میں۔

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

اپنے آپ کو خداوند کے سامنے نیچا کریں تو وہ آپ کو سرفراز کرے گا۔

Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

بھائیو، ایک دوسرے پر تہمت مت لگانا۔ جو اپنے بھائی پر تہمت لگاتا یا اُسے مجرم ٹھراتا ہے وہ شریعت پر تہمت لگاتا ہے اور شریعت کو مجرم ٹھہراتا ہے۔ اور جب آپ شریعت پر تہمت لگاتے ہیں تو آپ اُس کے پیروکار نہیں رہتے بلکہ اُس کے منصف بن گئے ہیں۔

There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

شریعت دینے والا اور منصف صرف ایک ہی ہے اور وہ ہے اللہ جو نجات دینے اور ہلاک کرنے کے قابل ہے۔ تو پھر آپ کون ہیں جو اپنے آپ کو منصف سمجھ کر اپنے پڑوسی کو مجرم ٹھہرا رہے ہیں!

Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

اور اب میری بات سنیں، آپ جو کہتے ہیں، ”آج یا کل ہم فلاں فلاں شہر میں جائیں گے۔ وہاں ہم ایک سال ٹھہر کر کاروبار کر کے پیسے کمائیں گے۔“

Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

دیکھیں، آپ یہ بھی نہیں جانتے کہ کل کیا ہو گا۔ آپ کی زندگی چیز ہی کیا ہے! آپ بھاپ ہی ہیں جو تھوڑی دیر کے لئے نظر آتی، پھر غائب ہو جاتی ہے۔

For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

بلکہ آپ کو یہ کہنا چاہئے، ”اگر خداوند کی مرضی ہوئی تو ہم جئیں گے اور یہ یا وہ کریں گے۔“

But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

لیکن فی الحال آپ شیخی مار کر اپنے غرور کا اظہار کرتے ہیں۔ اِس قسم کی تمام شیخی بازی بُری ہے۔

Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

چنانچہ جو جانتا ہے کہ اُسے کیا کیا نیک کام کرنا ہے، لیکن پھر بھی کچھ نہیں کرتا وہ گناہ کرتا ہے۔
