Isaiah 47

Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.

اے کنواری بابل بیٹی، اُتر جا! خاک میں بیٹھ جا! اے بابلیوں کی بیٹی، زمین پر بیٹھ جا جہاں تخت نہیں ہے! اب سے لوگ تجھ سے نہیں کہیں گے، ’اے میری نازپروَردہ، اے میری لاڈلی!‘

Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers.

اب چکّی لے کر آٹا پیس! اپنا نقاب ہٹا، اپنے لباس کا دامن اُٹھا، اپنی ٹانگوں کو عُریاں کر کے ندیاں پار کر۔

Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.

تیری برہنگی سب پر ظاہر ہو گی، سب تیری شرم سار حالت دیکھیں گے۔ کیونکہ مَیں بدلہ لے کر کسی کو نہیں چھوڑوں گا۔“

As for our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.

جس نے عوضانہ دے کر ہمیں چھڑایا ہے وہی یہ فرماتا ہے، وہ جس کا نام رب الافواج ہے اور جو اسرائیل کا قدوس ہے۔

Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.

”اے بابلیوں کی بیٹی، چپکے سے بیٹھ جا! تاریکی میں چھپ جا! آئندہ تُو ’ممالک کی ملکہ‘ نہیں کہلائے گی۔

I was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine hand: thou didst shew them no mercy; upon the ancient hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke.

جب مجھے اپنی قوم پر غصہ آیا تو مَیں نے اُسے یوں رُسوا کیا کہ اُس کی مُقدّس حالت جاتی رہی، گو وہ میرا موروثی حصہ تھی۔ اُس وقت مَیں نے اُنہیں تیرے حوالے کر دیا، لیکن تُو نے اُن پر رحم نہ کیا بلکہ بوڑھوں کی گردن پر بھی اپنا بھاری جوا رکھ دیا۔

And thou saidst, I shall be a lady for ever: so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.

تُو بولی، ’مَیں ابد تک ملکہ ہی رہوں گی!‘ تُو نے سنجیدگی سے دھیان نہ دیا، نہ اِس کے انجام پر غور کیا۔

Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:

اب سن، اے عیاش، تُو جو اپنے آپ کو محفوظ سمجھ کر کہتی ہے، ’مَیں ہی ہوں، میرے سوا کوئی اَور نہیں ہے۔ مَیں نہ کبھی بیوہ، نہ کبھی بےاولاد ہوں گی۔‘

But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments.

مَیں فرماتا ہوں کہ ایک ہی دن اور ایک ہی لمحے میں تُو بےاولاد بھی بنے گی اور بیوہ بھی۔ تیرے سارے زبردست جادومنتر کے باوجود یہ آفت پورے زور سے تجھ پر آئے گی۔

For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me.

تُو نے اپنی بدکاری پر اعتماد کر کے سوچا، ’کوئی نہیں مجھے دیکھتا۔‘ لیکن تیری ’حکمت‘ اور ’علم‘ تجھے غلط راہ پر لایا ہے۔ اُن کی بنا پر تُو نے دل میں کہا، ’مَیں ہی ہوں، میرے سوا کوئی اَور نہیں ہے۔‘

Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.

اب تجھ پر ایسی آفت آئے گی جسے تیرے جادومنتر دُور کرنے نہیں پائیں گے، تُو ایسی مصیبت میں پھنس جائے گی جس سے نپٹ نہیں سکے گی۔ اچانک ہی تجھ پر تباہی نازل ہو گی، اور تُو اُس کے لئے تیار ہی نہیں ہو گی۔

Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail.

اب کھڑی ہو جا، اپنے جادوٹونے کا پورا خزانہ کھول کر سب کچھ استعمال میں لا جو تُو نے جوانی سے بڑی محنت مشقت کے ساتھ اپنا لیا ہے۔ شاید فائدہ ہو، شاید تُو لوگوں کو ڈرا کر بھگا سکے۔

Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.

لیکن دوسروں کے بےشمار مشورے بےکار ہیں، اُنہوں نے تجھے صرف تھکا دیا ہے۔ اب تیرے نجومی کھڑے ہو جائیں، جو ستاروں کو دیکھ دیکھ کر ہر مہینے پیش گوئیاں کرتے ہیں وہ سامنے آ کر تجھے اُس سے بچائیں جو تجھ پر آنے والا ہے۔

Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it.

یقیناً وہ آگ میں جلنے والا بھوسا ہی ہیں جو اپنی جان کو شعلوں سے بچا نہیں سکتے۔ اور یہ کوئلوں کی آگ نہیں ہو گی جس کے سامنے انسان بیٹھ کر آگ تاپ سکے۔

Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, even thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee.

یہی اُن سب کا حال ہے جن پر تُو نے محنت کی ہے اور جو تیری جوانی سے تیرے ساتھ تجارت کرتے رہے ہیں۔ ہر ایک لڑکھڑاتے ہوئے اپنی اپنی راہ اختیار کرے گا، اور ایک بھی نہیں ہو گا جو تجھے بچائے۔
