Isaiah 36

Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the defenced cities of Judah, and took them.
حِزقیاہ بادشاہ کی حکومت کے 14ویں سال میں اسور کے بادشاہ سنحیرب نے یہوداہ کے تمام قلعہ بند شہروں پر دھاوا بول کر اُن پر قبضہ کر لیا۔
And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem unto king Hezekiah with a great army. And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller's field.
پھر اُس نے اپنے اعلیٰ افسر ربشاقی کو بڑی فوج کے ساتھ لکیس سے یروشلم کو بھیجا۔ یروشلم پہنچ کر ربشاقی اُس نالے کے پاس رُک گیا جو پانی کو اوپر والے تالاب تک پہنچاتا ہے (یہ تالاب اُس راستے پر ہے جو دھوبیوں کے گھاٹ تک لے جاتا ہے)۔
Then came forth unto him Eliakim, Hilkiah's son, which was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, Asaph's son, the recorder.
یہ دیکھ کر محل کا انچارج اِلیاقیم بن خِلقیاہ، میرمنشی شبناہ اور مشیرِ خاص یوآخ بن آسف شہر سے نکل کر اُس سے ملنے آئے۔
And Rabshakeh said unto them, Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?
ربشاقی نے اُن کے ہاتھ حِزقیاہ کو پیغام بھیجا، ”اسور کے عظیم بادشاہ فرماتے ہیں، تمہارا بھروسا کس چیز پر ہے؟
I say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain words) I have counsel and strength for war: now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?
تم سمجھتے ہو کہ خالی باتیں کرنا فوجی حکمتِ عملی اور طاقت کے برابر ہے۔ یہ کیسی بات ہے؟ تم کس پر اعتماد کر رہے ہو کہ مجھ سے سرکش ہو گئے ہو؟
Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him.
کیا تم مصر پر بھروسا کرتے ہو؟ وہ تو ٹوٹا ہوا سرکنڈا ہی ہے۔ جو بھی اُس پر ٹیک لگائے اُس کا ہاتھ وہ چیر کر زخمی کر دے گا۔ یہی کچھ اُن سب کے ساتھ ہو جائے گا جو مصر کے بادشاہ فرعون پر بھروسا کریں!
But if thou say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?
شاید تم کہو، ’ہم رب اپنے خدا پر توکل کرتے ہیں۔‘ لیکن یہ کس طرح ہو سکتا ہے؟ حِزقیاہ نے تو اُس کی بےحرمتی کی ہے۔ کیونکہ اُس نے اونچی جگہوں کے مندروں اور قربان گاہوں کو ڈھا کر یہوداہ اور یروشلم سے کہا ہے کہ صرف یروشلم کی قربان گاہ کے سامنے پرستش کریں۔
Now therefore give pledges, I pray thee, to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.
آؤ، میرے آقا اسور کے بادشاہ سے سودا کرو۔ مَیں تمہیں 2,000 گھوڑے دوں گا بشرطیکہ تم اُن کے لئے سوار مہیا کر سکو۔ لیکن افسوس، تمہارے پاس اِتنے گھڑسوار ہیں ہی نہیں!
How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?
تم میرے آقا اسور کے بادشاہ کے سب سے چھوٹے افسر کا بھی مقابلہ نہیں کر سکتے۔ لہٰذا مصر کے رتھوں پر بھروسا رکھنے کا کیا فائدہ؟
And am I now come up without the LORD against this land to destroy it? the LORD said unto me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.
شاید تم سمجھتے ہو کہ مَیں رب کی مرضی کے بغیر ہی اِس ملک پر حملہ کرنے آیا ہوں تاکہ سب کچھ برباد کروں۔ لیکن ایسا ہرگز نہیں ہے! رب نے خود مجھے کہا کہ اِس ملک پر دھاوا بول کر اِسے تباہ کر دے۔“
Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not to us in the Jews' language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.
یہ سن کر اِلیاقیم، شبناہ اور یوآخ نے ربشاقی کی تقریر میں دخل دے کر کہا، ”براہِ کرم اَرامی زبان میں اپنے خادموں کے ساتھ گفتگو کیجئے، کیونکہ ہم یہ اچھی طرح بول لیتے ہیں۔ عبرانی زبان استعمال نہ کریں، ورنہ شہر کی فصیل پر کھڑے لوگ آپ کی باتیں سن لیں گے۔“
But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?
لیکن ربشاقی نے جواب دیا، ”کیا تم سمجھتے ہو کہ میرے مالک نے یہ پیغام صرف تمہیں اور تمہارے مالک کو بھیجا ہے؟ ہرگز نہیں! وہ چاہتے ہیں کہ تمام لوگ یہ باتیں سن لیں۔ کیونکہ وہ بھی تمہاری طرح اپنا فضلہ کھانے اور اپنا پیشاب پینے پر مجبور ہو جائیں گے۔“
Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.
پھر وہ فصیل کی طرف مُڑ کر بلند آواز سے عبرانی زبان میں عوام سے مخاطب ہوا، ”سنو! شہنشاہ، اسور کے بادشاہ کے فرمان پر دھیان دو!
Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you.
بادشاہ فرماتے ہیں کہ حِزقیاہ تمہیں دھوکا نہ دے۔ وہ تمہیں بچا نہیں سکتا۔
Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
بےشک وہ تمہیں تسلی دلانے کی کوشش کر کے کہتا ہے، ’رب ہمیں ضرور چھٹکارا دے گا، یہ شہر کبھی بھی اسوری بادشاہ کے قبضے میں نہیں آئے گا۔‘ لیکن اِس قسم کی باتوں سے تسلی پا کر رب پر بھروسا مت کرنا۔
Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me: and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern;
حِزقیاہ کی باتیں نہ مانو بلکہ اسور کے بادشاہ کی۔ کیونکہ وہ فرماتے ہیں، میرے ساتھ صلح کرو اور شہر سے نکل کر میرے پاس آ جاؤ۔ پھر تم میں سے ہر ایک انگور کی اپنی بیل اور انجیر کے اپنے درخت کا پھل کھائے گا اور اپنے حوض کا پانی پیئے گا۔
Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.
پھر کچھ دیر کے بعد مَیں تمہیں ایک ایسے ملک میں لے جاؤں گا جو تمہارے اپنے ملک کی مانند ہو گا۔ اُس میں بھی اناج اور نئی مَے، روٹی اور انگور کے باغ ہیں۔
Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, The LORD will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
حِزقیاہ کی مت سننا۔ جب وہ کہتا ہے، ’رب ہمیں بچائے گا‘ تو وہ تمہیں دھوکا دے رہا ہے۔ کیا دیگر اقوام کے دیوتا اپنے ملکوں کو شاہِ اسور سے بچانے کے قابل رہے ہیں؟
Where are the gods of Hamath and Arphad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?
حمات اور ارفاد کے دیوتا کہاں رہ گئے ہیں؟ سِفروائم کے دیوتا کیا کر سکے؟ اور کیا کسی دیوتا نے سامریہ کو میری گرفت سے بچایا؟
Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?
نہیں، کوئی بھی دیوتا اپنا ملک مجھ سے بچا نہ سکا۔ تو پھر رب یروشلم کو کس طرح مجھ سے بچائے گا؟“
But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king's commandment was, saying, Answer him not.
فصیل پر کھڑے لوگ خاموش رہے۔ اُنہوں نے کوئی جواب نہ دیا، کیونکہ بادشاہ نے حکم دیا تھا کہ جواب میں ایک لفظ بھی نہ کہیں۔
Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
پھر محل کا انچارج اِلیاقیم بن خِلقیاہ، میرمنشی شبناہ اور مشیرِ خاص یوآخ بن آسف رنجش کے مارے اپنے لباس پھاڑ کر حِزقیاہ کے پاس واپس گئے۔ دربار میں پہنچ کر اُنہوں نے بادشاہ کو سب کچھ کہہ سنایا جو ربشاقی نے اُنہیں کہا تھا۔
