Amos 6

Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

کوہِ صیون کے بےپروا باشندوں پر افسوس! کوہِ سامریہ کے باشندوں پر افسوس جو اپنے آپ کو محفوظ سمجھتے ہیں۔ ہاں، سب سے اعلیٰ قوم کے اُن شرفا پر افسوس جن کے پاس اسرائیلی قوم مدد کے لئے آتی ہے۔

Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?

کلنہ شہر کے پاس جا کر اُس پر غور کرو، وہاں سے عظیم شہر حمات کے پاس پہنچو، پھر فلستی ملک کے شہر جات کے پاس اُترو۔ کیا تم اِن ممالک سے بہتر ہو؟ کیا تمہارا علاقہ اِن کی نسبت بڑا ہے؟

Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;

تم اپنے آپ کو آفت کے دن سے دُور سمجھ کر اپنی ظالم حکومت دوسروں پر جتاتے ہو۔

That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;

تم ہاتھی دانت سے آراستہ پلنگوں پر سوتے اور اپنے شاندار صوفوں پر پاؤں پھیلاتے ہو۔ کھانے کے لئے تم اپنے ریوڑوں سے اچھے اچھے بھیڑ کے بچے اور موٹے تازے بچھڑے چن لیتے ہو۔

That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;

تم اپنے ستاروں کو بجا بجا کر داؤد کی طرح مختلف قسم کے گیت تیار کرتے ہو۔

That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

مَے کو تم بڑے بڑے پیالوں سے پی لیتے، بہترین قسم کے تیل اپنے جسم پر ملتے ہو۔ افسوس، تم پروا ہی نہیں کرتے کہ یوسف کا گھرانا تباہ ہونے والا ہے۔

Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.

اِس لئے تم اُن لوگوں میں سے ہو گے جو پہلے قیدی بن کر جلاوطن ہو جائیں گے۔ تب تمہاری رنگ رلیاں بند ہو جائیں گی، تمہاری آوارہ گرد اور کاہل زندگی ختم ہو جائے گی۔

The Lord GOD hath sworn by himself, saith the LORD the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.

رب جو لشکروں کا خدا ہے فرماتا ہے، ”مجھے یعقوب کا غرور دیکھ کر گھن آتی ہے، اُس کے محلوں سے مَیں متنفر ہوں۔ مَیں شہر اور جو کچھ اُس میں ہے دشمن کے حوالے کر دوں گا۔ میرے نام کی قَسم، یہ میرا، رب قادرِ مطلق کا فرمان ہے۔“

And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die.

اُس وقت اگر ایک گھر میں دس آدمی رہ جائیں تو وہ بھی مر جائیں گے۔

And a man's uncle shall take him up, and he that burneth him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that is by the sides of the house, Is there yet any with thee? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold thy tongue: for we may not make mention of the name of the LORD.

پھر جب کوئی رشتے دار آئے تاکہ لاشوں کو اُٹھا کر دفنانے جائے اور دیکھے کہ گھر کے کسی کونے میں ابھی کوئی چھپ کر بچ گیا ہے تو وہ اُس سے پوچھے گا، ”کیا آپ کے علاوہ کوئی اَور بھی بچا ہے؟“ تو وہ جواب دے گا، ”نہیں، ایک بھی نہیں۔“ تب رشتے دار کہے گا، ”چپ! رب کے نام کا ذکر مت کرنا، ایسا نہ ہو کہ وہ تجھے بھی موت کے گھاٹ اُتارے ۔“

For, behold, the LORD commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.

کیونکہ رب نے حکم دیا ہے کہ شاندار گھروں کو ٹکڑے ٹکڑے اور چھوٹے گھروں کو ریزہ ریزہ کیا جائے۔

Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:

کیا گھوڑے چٹانوں پر سرپٹ دوڑتے ہیں؟ کیا انسان بَیل لے کر اُن پر ہل چلاتا ہے؟ لیکن تم اِتنی ہی غیرفطری حرکتیں کرتے ہو۔ کیونکہ تم انصاف کو زہر میں اور راستی کا میٹھا پھل کڑواہٹ میں بدل دیتے ہو۔

Ye which rejoice in a thing of nought, which say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength?

تم لو دبار کی فتح پر شادیانہ بجا بجا کر فخر کرتے ہو، ”ہم نے اپنی ہی طاقت سے قرنَیم پر قبضہ کر لیا!“

But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the LORD the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.

چنانچہ رب جو لشکروں کا خدا ہے فرماتا ہے، ”اے اسرائیلی قوم، مَیں تیرے خلاف ایک قوم کو تحریک دوں گا جو تجھے شمال کے شہر لبو حمات سے لے کر جنوب کی وادی عرابہ تک اذیت پہنچائے گی۔“
