I Kings 1

Now king David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat.

داؤد بادشاہ بہت بوڑھا ہو چکا تھا۔ اُسے ہمیشہ سردی لگتی تھی، اور اُس پر مزید بستر ڈالنے سے کوئی فائدہ نہ ہوتا تھا۔

Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and let her cherish him, and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may get heat.

یہ دیکھ کر ملازموں نے بادشاہ سے کہا، ”اگر اجازت ہو تو ہم بادشاہ کے لئے ایک نوجوان کنواری ڈھونڈ لیں جو آپ کی خدمت میں حاضر رہے اور آپ کی دیکھ بھال کرے۔ لڑکی آپ کے ساتھ لیٹ کر آپ کو گرم رکھے۔“

So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the coasts of Israel, and found Abishag a Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

چنانچہ وہ پورے ملک میں کسی خوب صورت لڑکی کی تلاش کرنے لگے۔ ڈھونڈتے ڈھونڈتے ابی شاگ شونیمی کو چن کر بادشاہ کے پاس لایا گیا۔

And the damsel was very fair, and cherished the king, and ministered to him: but the king knew her not.

اب سے وہ اُس کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوتی اور اُس کی دیکھ بھال کرتی رہی۔ لڑکی نہایت خوب صورت تھی، لیکن بادشاہ نے کبھی اُس سے صحبت نہ کی۔

Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

اُن دنوں میں ادونیاہ بادشاہ بننے کی سازش کرنے لگا۔ وہ داؤد کی بیوی حجیت کا بیٹا تھا۔ یوں وہ ابی سلوم کا سوتیلا بھائی اور اُس کے مرنے پر داؤد کا سب سے بڑا بیٹا تھا۔ شکل و صورت کے لحاظ سے لوگ اُس کی بڑی تعریف کیا کرتے تھے، اور بچپن سے اُس کے باپ نے اُسے کبھی نہیں ڈانٹا تھا کہ تُو کیا کر رہا ہے۔ اب ادونیاہ اپنے آپ کو لوگوں کے سامنے پیش کر کے اعلان کرنے لگا، ”مَیں ہی بادشاہ بنوں گا۔“ اِس مقصد کے تحت اُس نے اپنے لئے رتھ اور گھوڑے خرید کر 50 آدمیوں کو رکھ لیا تاکہ وہ جہاں بھی جائے اُس کے آگے آگے چلتے رہیں۔

And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after Absalom.

اُن دنوں میں ادونیاہ بادشاہ بننے کی سازش کرنے لگا۔ وہ داؤد کی بیوی حجیت کا بیٹا تھا۔ یوں وہ ابی سلوم کا سوتیلا بھائی اور اُس کے مرنے پر داؤد کا سب سے بڑا بیٹا تھا۔ شکل و صورت کے لحاظ سے لوگ اُس کی بڑی تعریف کیا کرتے تھے، اور بچپن سے اُس کے باپ نے اُسے کبھی نہیں ڈانٹا تھا کہ تُو کیا کر رہا ہے۔ اب ادونیاہ اپنے آپ کو لوگوں کے سامنے پیش کر کے اعلان کرنے لگا، ”مَیں ہی بادشاہ بنوں گا۔“ اِس مقصد کے تحت اُس نے اپنے لئے رتھ اور گھوڑے خرید کر 50 آدمیوں کو رکھ لیا تاکہ وہ جہاں بھی جائے اُس کے آگے آگے چلتے رہیں۔

And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest: and they following Adonijah helped him.

اُس نے یوآب بن ضرویاہ اور ابیاتر امام سے بات کی تو وہ اُس کے ساتھی بن کر اُس کی حمایت کرنے کے لئے تیار ہوئے۔

But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men which belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

لیکن صدوق امام، بِنایاہ بن یہویدع اور ناتن نبی اُس کے ساتھ نہیں تھے، نہ سِمعی، ریعی یا داؤد کے محافظ۔

And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by En–rogel, and called all his brethren the king's sons, and all the men of Judah the king's servants:

ایک دن ادونیاہ نے عین راجل چشمے کے قریب کی چٹان زُحلت کے پاس ضیافت کی۔ کافی بھیڑبکریاں، گائےبَیل اور موٹے تازے بچھڑے ذبح کئے گئے۔ ادونیاہ نے بادشاہ کے تمام بیٹوں اور یہوداہ کے تمام شاہی افسروں کو دعوت دی تھی۔

But Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he called not.

کچھ لوگوں کو جان بوجھ کر اِس میں شامل نہیں کیا گیا تھا۔ اُن میں اُس کا بھائی سلیمان، ناتن نبی، بِنایاہ اور داؤد کے محافظ شامل تھے۔

Wherefore Nathan spake unto Bath–sheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign, and David our lord knoweth it not?

تب ناتن سلیمان کی ماں بُت سبع سے ملا اور بولا، ”کیا یہ خبر آپ تک نہیں پہنچی کہ حجیت کے بیٹے ادونیاہ نے اپنے آپ کو بادشاہ بنا لیا ہے؟ اور ہمارے آقا داؤد کو اِس کا علم تک نہیں!

Now therefore come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon.

آپ کی اور آپ کے بیٹے سلیمان کی زندگی بڑے خطرے میں ہے۔ اِس لئے لازم ہے کہ آپ میرے مشورے پر فوراً عمل کریں۔

Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him, Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then doth Adonijah reign?

داؤد بادشاہ کے پاس جا کر اُسے بتا دینا، ’اے میرے آقا اور بادشاہ، کیا آپ نے قَسم کھا کر مجھ سے وعدہ نہیں کیا تھا کہ تیرا بیٹا سلیمان میرے بعد تخت نشین ہو گا؟ تو پھر ادونیاہ کیوں بادشاہ بن گیا ہے؟‘

Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the king, I also will come in after thee, and confirm thy words.

آپ کی بادشاہ سے گفتگو ابھی ختم نہیں ہو گی کہ مَیں داخل ہو کر آپ کی بات کی تصدیق کروں گا۔“

And Bath–sheba went in unto the king into the chamber: and the king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite ministered unto the king.

بُت سبع فوراً بادشاہ کے پاس گئی جو سونے کے کمرے میں لیٹا ہوا تھا۔ اُس وقت تو وہ بہت عمر رسیدہ ہو چکا تھا، اور ابی شاگ اُس کی دیکھ بھال کر رہی تھی۔

And Bath–sheba bowed, and did obeisance unto the king. And the king said, What wouldest thou?

بُت سبع کمرے میں داخل ہو کر بادشاہ کے سامنے منہ کے بل جھک گئی۔ داؤد نے پوچھا، ”کیا بات ہے؟“

And she said unto him, My lord, thou swarest by the LORD thy God unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne.

بُت سبع نے کہا، ”میرے آقا، آپ نے تو رب اپنے خدا کی قَسم کھا کر مجھ سے وعدہ کیا تھا کہ تیرا بیٹا سلیمان میرے بعد تخت نشین ہو گا۔

And now, behold, Adonijah reigneth; and now, my lord the king, thou knowest it not:

لیکن اب ادونیاہ بادشاہ بن بیٹھا ہے اور میرے آقا اور بادشاہ کو اِس کا علم تک نہیں۔

And he hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the sons of the king, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the host: but Solomon thy servant hath he not called.

اُس نے ضیافت کے لئے بہت سے گائےبَیل، موٹے تازے بچھڑے اور بھیڑبکریاں ذبح کر کے تمام شہزادوں کو دعوت دی ہے۔ ابیاتر امام اور فوج کا کمانڈر یوآب بھی اِن میں شامل ہیں، لیکن آپ کے خادم سلیمان کو دعوت نہیں ملی۔

And thou, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, that thou shouldest tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.

اے بادشاہ میرے آقا، اِس وقت تمام اسرائیل کی آنکھیں آپ پر لگی ہیں۔ سب آپ سے یہ جاننے کے لئے تڑپتے ہیں کہ آپ کے بعد کون تخت نشین ہو گا۔

Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.

اگر آپ نے جلد ہی قدم نہ اُٹھایا تو آپ کے کوچ کر جانے کے فوراً بعد مَیں اور میرا بیٹا ادونیاہ کا نشانہ بن کر مجرم ٹھہریں گے۔“

And, lo, while she yet talked with the king, Nathan the prophet also came in.

بُت سبع ابھی بادشاہ سے بات کر ہی رہی تھی کہ داؤد کو اطلاع دی گئی کہ ناتن نبی آپ سے ملنے آیا ہے۔ نبی کمرے میں داخل ہو کر بادشاہ کے سامنے اوندھے منہ جھک گیا۔

And they told the king, saying, Behold Nathan the prophet. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

بُت سبع ابھی بادشاہ سے بات کر ہی رہی تھی کہ داؤد کو اطلاع دی گئی کہ ناتن نبی آپ سے ملنے آیا ہے۔ نبی کمرے میں داخل ہو کر بادشاہ کے سامنے اوندھے منہ جھک گیا۔

And Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou said, Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?

پھر اُس نے کہا، ”میرے آقا، لگتا ہے کہ آپ اِس حق میں ہیں کہ ادونیاہ آپ کے بعد تخت نشین ہو۔

For he is gone down this day, and hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the king's sons, and the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest; and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, God save king Adonijah.

کیونکہ آج اُس نے عین راجل جا کر بہت سے گائےبَیل، موٹے تازے بچھڑے اور بھیڑبکریوں کو ذبح کیا ہے۔ ضیافت کے لئے اُس نے تمام شہزادوں، تمام فوجی افسروں اور ابیاتر امام کو دعوت دی ہے۔ اِس وقت وہ اُس کے ساتھ کھانا کھا کھا کر اور مَے پی پی کر نعرہ لگا رہے ہیں، ’ادونیاہ بادشاہ زندہ باد!‘

But me, even me thy servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and thy servant Solomon, hath he not called.

کچھ لوگوں کو جان بوجھ کر دعوت نہیں دی۔ اُن میں مَیں آپ کا خادم، صدوق امام، بِنایاہ بن یہویدع اور آپ کا خادم سلیمان بھی شامل ہیں۔

Is this thing done by my lord the king, and thou hast not shewed it unto thy servant, who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?

میرے آقا، کیا آپ نے واقعی اِس کا حکم دیا ہے؟ کیا آپ نے اپنے خادموں کو اطلاع دیئے بغیر فیصلہ کیا ہے کہ یہ شخص بادشاہ بنے گا؟“

Then king David answered and said, Call me Bath–sheba. And she came into the king's presence, and stood before the king.

جواب میں داؤد نے کہا، ”بُت سبع کو بُلائیں!“ وہ واپس آئی اور بادشاہ کے سامنے کھڑی ہو گئی۔

And the king sware, and said, As the LORD liveth, that hath redeemed my soul out of all distress,

بادشاہ بولا، ”رب کی حیات کی قَسم جس نے فدیہ دے کر مجھے ہر مصیبت سے بچایا ہے،

Even as I sware unto thee by the LORD God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead; even so will I certainly do this day.

آپ کا بیٹا سلیمان میرے بعد بادشاہ ہو گا بلکہ آج ہی میرے تخت پر بیٹھ جائے گا۔ ہاں، آج ہی مَیں وہ وعدہ پورا کروں گا جو مَیں نے رب اسرائیل کے خدا کی قَسم کھا کر آپ سے کیا تھا۔“

Then Bath–sheba bowed with her face to the earth, and did reverence to the king, and said, Let my lord king David live for ever.

یہ سن کر بُت سبع اوندھے منہ جھک گئی اور کہا، ”میرا مالک داؤد بادشاہ زندہ باد!“

And king David said, Call me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came before the king.

پھر داؤد نے حکم دیا، ”صدوق امام، ناتن نبی اور بِنایاہ بن یہویدع کو بُلا لائیں۔“ تینوں آئے

The king also said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon mine own mule, and bring him down to Gihon:

تو بادشاہ اُن سے مخاطب ہوا، ”میرے بیٹے سلیمان کو میرے خچر پر بٹھائیں۔ پھر میرے افسروں کو ساتھ لے کر اُسے جیحون چشمے تک پہنچا دیں۔

And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel: and blow ye with the trumpet, and say, God save king Solomon.

وہاں صدوق اور ناتن اُسے مسح کر کے اسرائیل کا بادشاہ بنا دیں۔ نرسنگے کو بجا بجا کر نعرہ لگانا، ’سلیمان بادشاہ زندہ باد!‘

Then ye shall come up after him, that he may come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my stead: and I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah.

اِس کے بعد میرے بیٹے کے ساتھ یہاں واپس آ جانا۔ وہ محل میں داخل ہو کر میرے تخت پر بیٹھ جائے اور میری جگہ حکومت کرے، کیونکہ مَیں نے اُسے اسرائیل اور یہوداہ کا حکمران مقرر کیا ہے۔“

And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, and said, Amen: the LORD God of my lord the king say so too.

بِنایاہ بن یہویدع نے جواب دیا، ”آمین، ایسا ہی ہو! رب میرے آقا کا خدا اِس فیصلے پر اپنی برکت دے۔

As the LORD hath been with my lord the king, even so be he with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David.

اور جس طرح رب آپ کے ساتھ رہا اُسی طرح وہ سلیمان کے ساتھ بھی ہو، بلکہ وہ اُس کے تخت کو آپ کے تخت سے کہیں زیادہ سربلند کرے!“

So Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride upon king David's mule, and brought him to Gihon.

پھر صدوق امام، ناتن نبی، بِنایاہ بن یہویدع اور بادشاہ کے محافظ کریتیوں اور فلیتیوں نے سلیمان کو بادشاہ کے خچر پر بٹھا کر اُسے جیحون چشمے تک پہنچا دیا۔

And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save king Solomon.

صدوق کے پاس تیل سے بھرا مینڈھے کا وہ سینگ تھا جو مُقدّس خیمے میں پڑا رہتا تھا۔ اب اُس نے یہ تیل لے کر سلیمان کو مسح کیا۔ پھر نرسنگا بجایا گیا اور لوگ مل کر نعرہ لگانے لگے، ”سلیمان بادشاہ زندہ باد! سلیمان بادشاہ زندہ باد!“

And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.

تمام لوگ بانسری بجاتے اور خوشی مناتے ہوئے سلیمان کے پیچھے چلنے لگے۔ جب وہ دوبارہ یروشلم میں داخل ہوا تو اِتنا شور تھا کہ زمین لرز اُٹھی۔

And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had made an end of eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, Wherefore is this noise of the city being in an uproar?

لوگوں کی یہ آوازیں ادونیاہ اور اُس کے مہمانوں تک بھی پہنچ گئیں۔ تھوڑی دیر پہلے وہ کھانے سے فارغ ہوئے تھے۔ نرسنگے کی آواز سن کر یوآب چونک اُٹھا اور پوچھا، ”یہ کیا ہے؟ شہر سے اِتنا شور کیوں سنائی دے رہا ہے؟“

And while he yet spake, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came: and Adonijah said unto him, Come in; for thou art a valiant man, and bringest good tidings.

وہ ابھی یہ بات کر ہی رہا تھا کہ ابیاتر کا بیٹا یونتن پہنچ گیا۔ یوآب بولا، ”ہمارے پاس آئیں۔ آپ جیسے لائق آدمی اچھی خبر لے کر آ رہے ہوں گے۔“

And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, Verily our lord king David hath made Solomon king.

یونتن نے جواب دیا، ”افسوس، ایسا نہیں ہے۔ ہمارے آقا داؤد بادشاہ نے سلیمان کو بادشاہ بنا دیا ہے۔

And the king hath sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to ride upon the king's mule:

اُس نے اُسے صدوق امام، ناتن نبی، بِنایاہ بن یہویدع اور بادشاہ کے محافظ کریتیوں اور فلیتیوں کے ساتھ جیحون چشمے کے پاس بھیج دیا ہے۔ سلیمان بادشاہ کے خچر پر سوار تھا۔

And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon: and they are come up from thence rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This is the noise that ye have heard.

جیحون چشمے کے پاس صدوق امام اور ناتن نبی نے اُسے مسح کر کے بادشاہ بنا دیا۔ پھر وہ خوشی مناتے ہوئے شہر میں واپس چلے گئے۔ پورے شہر میں ہل چل مچ گئی۔ یہی وہ شور ہے جو آپ کو سنائی دے رہا ہے۔

And also Solomon sitteth on the throne of the kingdom.

اب سلیمان تخت پر بیٹھ چکا ہے،

And moreover the king's servants came to bless our lord king David, saying, God make the name of Solomon better than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne. And the king bowed himself upon the bed.

اور درباری ہمارے آقا داؤد بادشاہ کو مبارک باد دینے کے لئے اُس کے پاس پہنچ گئے ہیں۔ وہ کہہ رہے ہیں، ’آپ کا خدا کرے کہ سلیمان کا نام آپ کے نام سے بھی زیادہ مشہور ہو جائے۔ اُس کا تخت آپ کے تخت سے کہیں زیادہ سربلند ہو۔‘ بادشاہ نے اپنے بستر پر جھک کر اللہ کی پرستش کی

And also thus said the king, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which hath given one to sit on my throne this day, mine eyes even seeing it.

اور کہا، ’رب اسرائیل کے خدا کی تمجید ہو جس نے میرے بیٹوں میں سے ایک کو میری جگہ تخت پر بٹھا دیا ہے۔ اُس کا شکر ہے کہ مَیں اپنی آنکھوں سے یہ دیکھ سکا‘۔“

And all the guests that were with Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and went every man his way.

یونتن کے منہ سے یہ خبر سن کر ادونیاہ کے تمام مہمان گھبرا گئے۔ سب اُٹھ کر چاروں طرف منتشر ہو گئے۔

And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.

ادونیاہ سلیمان سے خوف کھا کر مُقدّس خیمے کے پاس گیا اور قربان گاہ کے سینگوں سے لپٹ گیا۔

And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah feareth king Solomon: for, lo, he hath caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear unto me to day that he will not slay his servant with the sword.

کسی نے سلیمان کے پاس جا کر اُسے اطلاع دی، ”ادونیاہ کو سلیمان بادشاہ سے خوف ہے، اِس لئے وہ قربان گاہ کے سینگوں سے لپٹے ہوئے کہہ رہا ہے، ’سلیمان بادشاہ پہلے قَسم کھائے کہ وہ مجھے موت کے گھاٹ نہیں اُتارے گا‘۔“

And Solomon said, If he will shew himself a worthy man, there shall not an hair of him fall to the earth: but if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall die.

سلیمان نے وعدہ کیا، ”اگر وہ لائق ثابت ہو تو اُس کا ایک بال بھی بیکا نہیں ہو گا۔ لیکن جب بھی اُس میں بدی پائی جائے وہ ضرور مرے گا۔“

So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to king Solomon: and Solomon said unto him, Go to thine house.

سلیمان نے اپنے لوگوں کو ادونیاہ کے پاس بھیج دیا تاکہ وہ اُسے بادشاہ کے پاس پہنچائیں۔ ادونیاہ آیا اور سلیمان کے سامنے اوندھے منہ جھک گیا۔ سلیمان بولا، ”اپنے گھر چلے جاؤ!“
