Joel 1

The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.

Detta är HERRENS ord som kom till Joel, Petuels son.

Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?

 Hören detta, I gamle,  och lyssnen härtill, I landets alla inbyggare.  Har något sådant skett förut i edra dagar  eller i edra fäders dagar?

Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.

 Nej, om detta mån I förtälja för edra barn,  och edra barn må förtälja därom för sina barn,  och deras barn för ett kommande släkte.

That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.

 Vad som blev kvar efter gräsgnagarna,      det åto gräshopporna upp;  och vad som blev kvar efter gräshopporna,      det åto gräsbitarna upp;  och vad som blev kvar efter gräsbitarna      det åto gräsfrätarna upp.

Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.

 Vaknen upp, I druckne, och gråten;  ja, jämren eder, alla I som dricken vin,  över att druvsaften är ryckt undan eder mun.

For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.

 Ty ett folk har dragit upp över mitt land,      ett mäktigt, ett som ingen kan räkna;  det har tänder likasom lejon,  och dess kindtänder likna lejoninnors.

He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.

 Mina vinträd har det förött,      och mina fikonträd har det brutit ned  det har skalat dem nakna och kastat dem undan;      vitnade äro deras rankor.

Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.

 Klaga likasom en jungfru som bär sorgdräkt      efter sin ungdoms brudgum

The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the LORD; the priests, the LORD'S ministers, mourn.

 Spisoffer och drickoffer äro försvunna      ifrån HERRENS hus;  prästerna sörja,      HERRENS tjänare.2 Mos. 29,41.

The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.

 Fälten äro förödda,      marken ligger sörjande,  ty säden är förödd,      vinet borttorkat,      oljan utsinad.

Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.

 Åkermännen stå med skam,      vingårdsmännen jämra sig,  över vetet och över kornet;  ty skörden på marken är förstörd.Jes. 16,10. Jer. 48,33.

The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.

 Vinträden äro förtorkade      och fikonträden försmäkta;  granatträden och palmerna och äppelträden  och alla andra träd på marken hava torkat bort.  Ja, all fröjd har vissnat      och flytt ifrån människors barn.

Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.

 Kläden eder i sorgdräkt och klagen, I präster;  jämren eder, I som tjänen vid altaret;  gån in och sitten i sorgdräkt natten igenom,      I min Guds tjänare,  eftersom eder Gud hus måste sakna      spisoffer och drickoffer

Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the LORD your God, and cry unto the LORD,

 Pålysen en helig fasta,      lysen ut en högtidsförsamling;  församlen de gamla,      ja, alla landets inbyggare,  till HERRENS, eder Guds, hus;      och ropen så till HERREN.Joel 2,15.

Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

 Ve oss, vilken dag!  ty HERRENS dag är nära,  och såsom våld från den Allsvåldige kommer den.Jes. 13,6, 9. Joel 2,1.

Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

 Har icke vår bärgning blivit förstörd      mitt för våra ögon?  har icke glädje och fröjd försvunnit      ifrån var Guds hus?

The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.

 Utsädet ligger förtorkat      under mullen,  förrådshusen stå öde,      ladorna få förfalla,      ty säden är borttorkad.

How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.

 Huru stönar icke boskapen!  Huru ängslas ej fäkreaturens hjordar!  De finna ju intet bete.  Ja, också fårhjordarna få lida under skulden.

O LORD, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.

 Till dig, HERRE, ropar jag,      nu då en eld har förtärt      betesmarkerna i öknen  och en eldslåga har förbränt      alla träd på marken.

The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

 Ja, också markens djur      ropa med trängtan till dig,  eftersom vattenbäckarna äro uttorkade      och betesmarkerna i öknen      äro förtärda av eld.Job 39,3. Ps. 104,27. 147,9. Jon. 3,8.
