Hosea 13

When Ephraim spake trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died.

 Så ofta Efraim tog till orda, uppstod skräck;  högt tronade han i Israel.  Men han ådrog sig skuld genom Baal och måste så dö.

And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.

 Och ännu fortgå de i sin synd;  av sitt silver göra de sig gjutna beläten,  avgudar efter sitt eget förstånd,  alltsammans konstarbetares verk.  Till sådana ställa de sina böner;  under det att de slakta människor,      giva de sin hyllningskyss åt kalvar.Hos. 2,8. 8,4.

Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.

 Därför skola de bliva lika morgonskyn,  lika daggen som tidigt försvinner,  lika agnar som blåsa bort ifrån tröskplatsen  och lika rök som flyr hän ur ett rökfång.Ps. 1,4. Dan. 2,35. Hos. 6,4.

Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.

 Men jag är HERREN, din Gud,      alltsedan du var i Egyptens land;  utom mig vet du ej av någon Gud,      och ingen annan frälsare finnes än jag.2 Sam. 22,32. Ps. 18,32. Jes. 43,11. 45,18. Hos. 12,9.

I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.

 Det var jag som lät mig vårda om dig i öknen,      i den brännande torkans land.5 Mos. 8,15. 32,10 f.

According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.

 Men ju bättre bete de fingo, dess mättare blevo de,  och när de voro mätta till fyllest, blevo deras hjärtan högmodiga;      och så glömde de mig.5 Mos. 8,12 f. 32,15.

Therefore I will be unto them as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe them:

 Då blev jag mot dem såsom ett lejon;  lik en panter lurar jag nu vid vägen.Klag. 3,10 f. Hos. 5,14.

I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them.

 Jag kommer över dem såsom en björninna  från vilken man har tagit ungarna,  jag river sönder deras hjärtans hölje;  jag uppslukar dem på stället, lik en lejoninna,  lik ett vilddjur som söndersliter dem.2 Sam. 17,8. Ords. 17,12. Jer. 5,6.

O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.

 Det har blivit ditt fördärv, o Israel,      att du satte dig upp mot mig som var din hjälp.

I will be thy king: where is any other that may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes?

 Var är nu din konung,      som skulle bereda dig frälsning i alla dina städer?  Och var har du dina domare, du som sade:  »Låt mig få konung och furstar»?1 Sam. 8,5 f.

I gave thee a king in mine anger, and took him away in my wrath.

 Ja, en konung skall jag giva dig i min vrede,  och i min förgrymmelse skall jag åter taga honom bort.1 Sam. 8,7.

The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hid.

 Efraims missgärning är samlad såsom i en pung,      och hans synd är i förvar.5 Mos. 32,34.

The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for he should not stay long in the place of the breaking forth of children.

 En barnaföderskas vånda      skall komma över honom.  Han är ett oförnuftigt foster,      som icke kommer fram i födseln.      när tiden är inne.2 Kon. 19,3. Jes. 37,3.

I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.

 Skulle jag förlossa sådana ur dödsrikets våld,      köpa dem fria ifrån döden?  -- Var har du dina hemsökelser, du död?  Var har du din pest, du dödsrike?  Ånger må vara fördold för mina ögon.

Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels.

 Bäst han står där frodig bland sina bröder      skall en östanvind komma,  ett HERRENS väder,      som stiger upp från öknen;  då skall hans brunn komma på skam      och hans källa sina ut.  Den vinden rycker bort de skatter han har samlat      av alla slags dyrbara håvor.Hes. 19,12.

Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.
