Proverbs 20

Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Wino czyni pośmiewcę, a napój mocny zwajcę; przetoż każdy, co się w nim kocha, nie bywa mądrym.

The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.

Strach królewski jest jako, ryk lwięcia; kto go rozgniewa, grzeszy przeciwko duszy swojej.

It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.

Uczciwa rzecz każdemu, poprzestać zwady; ale głupim jest, co się w nią wdaje.

The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.

Dla zimna leniwy nie orze; przetoż żebrać będzie we żniwa, ale nic nie otrzyma.

Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.

Rada w sercu męża jest jako woda głęboka: jednak mąż rozumny naczerpnie jej.

Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?

Większa część ludzi przechwala się uczynnością swoją; ale w samej rzeczy, któż takiego znajdzie?

The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.

Sprawiedliwy chodzi w uprzejmości swojej; błogosławieni synowie jego po nim.

A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.

Król siedząc na stolicy sądowej rozgania oczyma swemi wszystko złe.

Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?

Któż rzecze: Oczyściłem serce moje? czystym jest od grzechu mego?

Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.

Dwojaki gwicht i dwojaka miara, to oboje obrzydliwością jest Panu.

Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.

Po zabawach swych poznane bywa i dziecię, jeźli czysty i prawy uczynek jego.

The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.

Ucho, które słyszy, i oko, które widzi, Pan to oboje uczynił.

Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

Nie kochaj się w spaniu, byś snać nie zubożał, otwórz oczy swoje, a nasycisz się chlebem.

It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.

Złe to, złe to, mówi ten, co kupuje, a odszedłszy, ali się chlubi.

There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.

Wargi umiejętne są jako złoto i obfitość pereł, i kosztowne klejnoty.

Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.

Weźmij szatę tego, któryć ręczył za obcego; a od tego, który ręczył za cudzoziemkę, weźmij zastaw jego.

Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.

Smaczny jest drugiemu chleb kłamstwa; ale potem piaskiem napełnione będą usta jego.

Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.

Myśli radami utwierdzaj, a wojnę prowadź opatrznie.

He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.

Kto objawia tajemnicę, zdradliwie się obchodzi; przetoż z tymy, którzy pochlebiają wargami swemi, nie miej towarzystwa.

Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

Kto złorzeczy ojcu swemu albo matce swojej, zgaśnie pochodnia jego w gęstych ciemnościach.

An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.

Dziedzictwu prędko z początku nabytemu naostatek błogosławić nie będą.

Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.

Nie mów: Oddam złem. Oczekuj na Pana, a wybawi cię.

Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.

Obrzydliwością Panu dwojaki gwicht, a szale fałszywe nie podobają mu się.

Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?

Od Pana bywają sprawowane drogi męża; ale człowiek jakoż zrozumie drogę jego?

It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry.

Pożreć rzecz poświęconą, jest człowiekowi sidłem; a poślubiwszy co, tego zaś szukać, jakoby tego ujść.

A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.

Król mądry rozprasza niezbożnych, i przywodzi na nich pomstę.

The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

Dusza ludzka jest pochodnią Pańską, która doświadcza wszystkich skrytości wnętrznych.

Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.

Miłosierdzie i prawda króla strzegą, a stolica jego miłosierdziem wsparta bywa.

The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the gray head.

Ozdoba młodzieńców jest siła ich, a sędziwość poczciwością starców.

The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.

Złemu są lekarstwem siności ran, i razy przenikające do wnętrzności żywota jego.
