Job 9

Then Job answered and said,

I odpowiedział Ijob, a rzekł:

I know it is so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?

Prawdziwieć wiem, że tak jest; bo jakożby miał być usprawiedliwiony człowiek przed Bogiem?

If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.

Jeźliby się z nim chciał spierać, nie odpowie mu z tysiąca na jednę rzecz.

He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?

Mądry jest sercem, i mocny siłą; któż użył pokoju, stawiwszy się mu upornie?

Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger.

On przenosi góry, a nie wiedzą ludzie, kto je podwraca w gniewie swym.

Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.

On wzrusza ziemię z miejsca swego, a słupy jej trzęsą się.

Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.

Gdy on zakaże słońcu, nie wschodzi; i gwiazdy pieczętuje.

Which alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea.

On sam rozpościera niebiosa, i depcze po wałach morskich.

Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.

On sprawił wóz niebieski z gwiazd, Oryjona i Hyjady, i inne gwiazdy skryte na południe.

Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, and wonders without number.

On czyni rzeczy wielkie, a niewybadane i dziwne, którym niemasz liczby.

Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.

Oto, idzieli mimo mię, nie widzę go; a przychodzili, nie baczę go.

Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?

Oto gdy co porwie, któż go przymusi, aby przywrócił? Albo któż mu rzecze: Cóż czynisz?

If God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.

Gdyby Bóg nie odwrócił gniewu swego, upadliby przed nim pomocnicy hardzi.

How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words to reason with him?

Jakoż mu ja tedy odpowiem? Jakie słowa obiorę przeciwko niemu?

Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer, but I would make supplication to my judge.

Któremu, chociażbym był sprawiedliwym, nie odpowiem; owszem się sędziemu memu upokorzę.

If I had called, and he had answered me; yet would I not believe that he had hearkened unto my voice.

Choćbym go wzywał, a onby mi się ozwał, przecię nie wierzę, aby przypuścił do uszów głos mój:

For he breaketh me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause.

Bo mię starł w wichrze, i rozmnożył rany moje bez przyczyny;

He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness.

Nie dopuszcza mi odetchnąć, owszem mię nasyca gorzkościami.

If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?

Jeźli się udam do mocy, oto on najmocniejszy; a jeźli do sądu, któż mię z nim sprowadzi?

If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.

Jeźlibym się usprawiedliwiał, usta moje potępią mię; jeźlibym się doskonałym czynił, tedy mię przewrotnym być pokaże.

Though I were perfect, yet would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.

Chociażbym był doskonały, przecież ja tego do siebie znać nie będę; ale dam naganę żywotowi memu.

This is one thing, therefore I said it, He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.

Jedno jest, dla czegom to mówił: że tak doskonałego, jako i niezbożnego on niszczy;

If the scourge slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.

Jeźli biczem nagle zabija, z pokuszenia niewinnych naśmiewa się;

The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if not, where, and who is he?

Ziemia podana bywa w ręce niezbożnika, oblicze sędziów jej zakrywa. A jeźliż nie on, któż tedy inny jest, co to czyni?

Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good.

Ale dni moje prędsze były niż poseł; uciekły, a nie widziały nic dobrego.

They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that hasteth to the prey.

Przeminęły jako prędkie łodzie, jako orzeł lecący do żeru.

If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort myself:

Jeźli rzekę: Zapomnę narzekania mego, zaniecham gniewu swego, a posilę się:

I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.

Tedy się lękam wszystkich boleści moich, widząc, że mię z nich nie wypuścisz.

If I be wicked, why then labour I in vain?

Jeźlim ja niezbożny, przeczże próżno pracuję?

If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;

A choćbym się umywał wodami śnieżnemi, i oczyściłbym mydłem ręce moje:

Yet shalt thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me.

Wszakże w dole zanurzysz mię, i brzydzić się mną będą szaty moje.

For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, and we should come together in judgment.

Albowiem on nie jest człowiekiem jako ja, abym mu śmiał odpowiedzieć, albo żebym z nim miał iść w prawo.

Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both.

Bo nie masz między nami rozjemcy, któryby mógł rozwieść sprawę naszę.

Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his fear terrify me:

Niech tylko zdejmie zemnie rózgę swoję, a strach jego niech mię nie straszy;

Then would I speak, and not fear him; but it is not so with me.

Tedy będę mówił, a nie będę się go bał; bom ja nie jest taki sam u siebie.
