I Timothy 3

This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.

Wierna jest ta mowa: Jeźli kto biskupstwa żąda, dobrej pracy żąda.

A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

Ale biskup ma być nienaganiony, mąż jednej żony, czuły, trzeźwy, poważny, gościnny, ku nauczaniu sposobny;

Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

Nie pijanica wina, nie bitny, nie sprośnego zysku chciwy, ale słuszność miłujący, nieswarliwy, niełakomy;

One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

Który by dom swój dobrze rządził, który by dziatki miał w posłuszeństwie ze wszelaką uczciwością;

(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

(Bo jeźliby kto nie umiał swego własnego domu rządzić, jakoż pieczę będzie miał o kościele Bożym?)

Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

Nie nowotny, aby będąc nadęty, nie wpadł w sąd potwarcy.

Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

Musi też mieć świadectwo dobre od obcych, aby nie wpadł w hańbę i w sidło potwarcy.

Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;

Dyjakonowie także mają być poważni, nie dwoistego słowa, nie pijanicy wielu wina, nie chciwi sprośnego zysku,

Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.

Mający tajemnicę wiary w czystem sumieniu.

And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.

A ci też niech będą pierwej doświadczeni, zatem niech służą, jeźli są bez nagany;

Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

Żony także niech mają poważne, nie potwarliwe, trzeźwe, wierne we wszystkiem.

Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

Dyjakonowie niech będą mężami jednej żony, którzy by dziatki dobrze rządzili i własne domy.

For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Albowiem którzy by dobrze służyli, stopień sobie dobry zjednają i wielkie bezpieczeństwo w wierze, która jest w Chrystusie Jezusie.

These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly:

Toć tobie piszę, mając nadzieję, że w rychle przyjdę do ciebie;

But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

A jeźlibym omieszkał, abyś wiedział, jako się masz w domu Bożym sprawować, który jest kościołem Boga żywego, filarem i utwierdzeniem prawdy.

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

A zaprawdę wielka jest tajemnica pobożności, że Bóg objawiony jest w ciele, usprawiedliwiony jest w duchu, widziany jest od Aniołów, kazany jest poganom, uwierzono mu na świecie, wzięty jest w górę do chwały.
