Job 36

Elihu also proceeded, and said,

Og Elihu blev ved og sa:

Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee that I have yet to speak on God's behalf.

Vent litt på mig, så jeg kan få sagt dig min mening! For ennu er der noget å si til forsvar for Gud.

I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.

Jeg vil hente min kunnskap langt borte fra, og jeg vil vise at min skaper har rett.

For truly my words shall not be false: he that is perfect in knowledge is with thee.

For sannelig, mine ord er ikke falske; en mann med fullkommen kunnskap har du for dig.

Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom.

Se, Gud er sterk, men han akter ikke nogen ringe; han er sterk i forstandens kraft.

He preserveth not the life of the wicked: but giveth right to the poor.

Han lar ikke en ugudelig leve, og de undertrykte hjelper han til deres rett.

He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous: but with kings are they on the throne; yea, he doth establish them for ever, and they are exalted.

Han tar ikke sine øine fra de rettferdige, og hos konger på tronen lar han dem sitte all deres tid høit hedret.

And if they be bound in fetters, and be holden in cords of affliction;

Og om de blir bundet med lenker og fanget i ulykkens snarer,

Then he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded.

så vil han dermed foreholde dem deres gjerninger, deres synder, at de viste sig gjenstridige,

He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.

og åpne deres øre for advarselen og formane dem til å vende om fra det onde.

If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.

Om de da hører og tjener ham, så får de leve sine dager i lykke og sine år i herlighet og glede.

But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.

Hører de ikke, da skal de gjennembores av spydet og omkomme i sin uforstand.

But the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath: they cry not when he bindeth them.

Men mennesker med gudløst sinn huser vrede; de roper ikke til Gud når han legger dem i bånd.

They die in youth, and their life is among the unclean.

De dør i ungdommen, og deres liv ender som tempel-bolernes.

He delivereth the poor in his affliction, and openeth their ears in oppression.

Han frelser de ulykkelige ved deres ulykke og åpner deres øre ved trengselen.

Even so would he have removed thee out of the strait into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and that which should be set on thy table should be full of fatness.

Også dig lokker han ut av trengselens svelg til en åpen plass hvor det ikke er trangt; og ditt bord skal være fullt av fete retter.

But thou hast fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold on thee.

Men er du full av den ugudeliges brøde, så skal brøde og dom følges at.

Because there is wrath, beware lest he take thee away with his stroke: then a great ransom cannot deliver thee.

La bare ikke vrede lokke dig til spott, og la ikke den store bot lokke dig på avvei!

Will he esteem thy riches? no, not gold, nor all the forces of strength.

Kan vel ditt skrik fri dig ut av trengsel, og kan vel alt ditt strev og slit utrette det?

Desire not the night, when people are cut off in their place.

Stund ikke efter natten, den natt da hele folkeslag blåses bort fra sitt sted!

Take heed, regard not iniquity: for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.

Vokt dig, vend dig ikke til synd! For det har du mere lyst til enn til å lide.

Behold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like him?

Se, Gud er ophøiet i sin kraft; hvem er en læremester som han?

Who hath enjoined him his way? or who can say, Thou hast wrought iniquity?

Hvem har foreskrevet ham hans vei, og hvem kan si: Du gjorde urett?

Remember that thou magnify his work, which men behold.

Kom i hu at du ophøier hans gjerning, den som menneskene har sunget om!

Every man may see it; man may behold it afar off.

All verden ser på den med lyst; menneskene skuer den langt borte fra.

Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.

Se, Gud er stor, og vi forstår ham ikke; hans års tall er uutgrundelig;

For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof:

han drar vanndråper op til sig, og av tåken siler regnet ned;

Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly.

fra skyene strømmer det og drypper ned over mange mennesker.

Also can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle?

Kan også nogen forstå hvorledes skyene breder sig ut, hvorledes det braker fra hans telt?

Behold, he spreadeth his light upon it, and covereth the bottom of the sea.

Se, han breder ut sitt lys omkring sig og dekker det med havets røtter.

For by them judgeth he the people; he giveth meat in abundance.

For således straffer han folkeslag, men gir også føde i overflod.

With clouds he covereth the light; and commandeth it not to shine by the cloud that cometh betwixt.

Han dekker sine hender med lys og byder det å fare ut mot fienden.

The noise thereof sheweth concerning it, the cattle also concerning the vapour.

Hans tordenbrak bærer bud om ham; endog feet varsler når han rykker frem.
