II Corinthians 8

Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia;

Mutta minä teen teille tiettäväksi, rakkaat veljet, Jumalan armon, joka Makedonian seurakuntiin annettu on;

How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.

Sillä heidän ilonsa oli ylönpalttinen, kuin heitä monen vaivan kautta koeteltiin, ja vaikka he sangen köyhät olivat, ovat he kuitenkin runsaasti kaikessa yksinkertaisuudessa antaneet.

For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves;

Sillä he olivat kaikesta voimastansa (sen minä todistan) ja ylitsekin voimansa hyväntahtoiset,

Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.

Ja meitä suurella ahkeruudella rukoilivat, että me ottaisimme vastaan sen hyvän työn ja sen palveluksen osallisuuden, joka pyhäin varaksi koottu oli.

And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.

Ja ei niinkuin me toivoimme, vaan he antoivat itsensä ensisti Herralle ja (sitte) meille Jumalan tahdon kautta.

Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also.

Että meidän pitäis Titusta neuvoman, että, niinkuin hän oli ennen ruvennut, hänen pitäis senkaltaisen hyvän työn niin teidän seassanne päättämän;

Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.

Mutta niinkuin te olette kaikissa rikkaat, uskossa ja sanassa, ja taidossa ja kaikkinaisessa ahkeruudessa, ja teidän rakkaudessanne meidän kohtaamme, (niin sovittakaat siis), että te myös tässä armossa rikkaat olisitte.

I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love.

Enpä minä vaatimisesta sitä sano, vaan muiden ahkeruudesta koettelen minä myös teidän rakkautenne vakuutta.

For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

Sillä te tiedätte meidän Herran Jesuksen Kristuksen armon, että hän rikkaana ollessansa tuli kuitenkin teidän tähtenne köyhäksi, että te hänen köyhyytensä kautta rikkaaksi tulisitte.

And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago.

Minun neuvoni minä tästä annan; sillä se on teille hyödyllinen, että te olette ennen ruvenneet ei ainoasti sitä tekemään, vaan jo menneenä vuonna tahdoitte sitä.

Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have.

Täyttäkäät siis nyt se työ, jonka te rupesitte, että niinkuin tahto valmis oli, te myös sen voimanne perästä täyttäisitte.

For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.

Sillä jos joku edellä mielellinen on, niin hän on otollinen varansa jälkeen, ja ei sen jälkeen, joka ei hänellä ole.

For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened:

Ei niin luullen, että muilla pitää oleman huojennus ja teillä ahdistus, vaan että se tasan olis, niin palvelkaan teidän rikkautenne heidän köyhyyttänsä tällä ajalla,

But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:

Että myös heidän rikkautensa teidän puuttumistanne palvelis, että tasan tapahtuis,

As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack.

Niinkuin kirjoitettu on: joka paljon kokosi, ei hänellä ollut liiaksi, ja joka vähän kokosi, ei häneltä mitään puuttunut.

But thanks be to God, which put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you.

Mutta Jumalan olkoon kiitos, joka senkaltaisen ahkeruuden antoi Tituksen sydämeen teidän tähtenne!

For indeed he accepted the exhortation; but being more forward, of his own accord he went unto you.

Sillä hän otti sen neuvon hyväksi, ja tosin oli sitä ahkerampi, että hän läksi mielellänsä teidän tykönne.

And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches;

Mutta me olemme hänen kanssansa lähettäneet veljen, jota evankeliumissa kiitetään kaikissa seurakunnissa.

And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind:

(Mutta ei se ainoasti, vaan hän on myös säätty seurakunnilta meidän matkakumppaniksemme tämän armon kanssa, joka meidän kauttamme Herran kunniaksi toimitetaan, ja teidän hyvän tahtonne koettelemiseksi,)

Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us:

Karttain sitä, ettei kenkään meitä panettelisi senkaltaisen rikkaan avun puolesta, joka meidän kauttamme toimitetaan.

Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

Sillä me ahkeroitsemme sitä, mikä kunniallinen on, ei ainoasti Herran edessä, vaan myös ihmisten edessä.

And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have oftentimes proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, upon the great confidence which I have in you.

Ja me olemme heidän kanssansa lähettäneet meidän veljemme, jonka me monessa olemme usiasti koetelleet, että hän ahkera on, ja vielä nyt paljoa ahkerampi, suurella uskalluksella, joka on teidän tykönne,

Whether any do enquire of Titus, he is my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren be enquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ.

Sekä Tituksen puolesta, joka minun kumppanini on ja apulaiseni teidän seassanne, että myös meidän veljeimme tähden, jotka ovat seurakuntain apostolit, Kristuksen kunnia.

Wherefore shew ye to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, and of our boasting on your behalf.

Osoittakaat siis teidän rakkautenne merkki ja meidän kerskaamisemme teistänne niitä kohtaan, julkisesti seurakunnankin edessä.
