Numbers 11

And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.

قوم اسرائیل به‌خاطر دشواریهای خود به درگاه خداوند زبان به شکایت گشود. وقتی خداوند شکایت آنها را شنید، خشمگین شد و آتشی فرستاد و اطراف اردو را از بین برد.

And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched.

آنگاه مردم نزد موسی گریستند و موسی نزد خداوند دعا کرد و آتش خاموش شد.

And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the LORD burnt among them.

پس آنجا را «تبعیره» (یعنی سوختن) نامیدند، زیرا در آنجا آتش خداوند در میان ایشان مشتعل شده بود.

And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?

بیگانگانی‌ که با قوم اسرائیل بودند، هوس خوردن گوشت کرده بودند و خود قوم اسرائیل نیز ناله‌کنان می‌گفتند: «ای کاش کسی به ما گوشت می‌داد!

We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:

به یاد داریم که در مصر ماهی رایگان می‌خوردیم، خیار، خربزه، تره، پیاز و سیر داشتیم.

But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.

امّا اکنون اشتهای خود را از دست داده‌ایم و به غیراز این مَنّا چیز دیگری نیست که بخوریم.»

And the manna was as coriander seed, and the colour thereof as the colour of bdellium.

مَنّا مادّه‌ای بود، به اندازهٔ تخم گشنیز به رنگ سفید مایل به زرد.

And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.

مردم اسرائیل می‌رفتند و آن را از روی زمین جمع می‌کردند، در هاوَن می‌کوبیدند و آرد می‌کردند و بعد، از آن آرد نان می‌پختند. و مزهٔ نان روغنی داشت.

And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.

مَنّا با شبنم شبانگاه بر زمین می‌نشست.

Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his tent: and the anger of the LORD was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased.

موسی صدای گریهٔ قوم اسرائیل را، که جلوی چادرهای خود نشسته بودند، شنید. موسی از اینکه خداوند خشمگین شده بود بسیار ناراحت شد

And Moses said unto the LORD, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?

و به خداوند گفت: «چرا با این بنده‌ات چنین رفتار می‌کنی؟ من چه کرده‌ام که از من ناراضی هستی؟ چرا بار این قوم را به دوش من گذاشته‌ای؟

Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers?

آیا من آنها را آفریده‌ام و به دنیا آورده‌ام که می‌گویی مانند پرستاری که کودک را در آغوش می‌گیرد، آنها را به سرزمینی که به اجدادشان وعده داده‌ای ببرم؟

Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.

برای این‌همه مردم از کجا گوشت تهیّه کنم؟ زیرا آنها پیش من گریه می‌کنند و می‌گویند: 'به ما گوشت بده تا بخوریم.'

I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.

من به تنهایی نمی‌توانم، بار مسئولیّت تمام این مردم را به گردن بگیرم. این بار برای من بسیار سنگین است.

And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.

اگر با من این‌چنین رفتار می‌کنی، خواهش می‌کنم مرا بکش، بکش تا از این بدبختی رهایی یابم.»

And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee.

خداوند به موسی فرمود: «هفتاد نفر از رهبران برجستهٔ قوم اسرائیل را جمع کن و پیش دروازهٔ خیمهٔ عبادت به حضور من بیاور و در آنجا همراه تو بایستند.

And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.

آنگاه من نزول می‌کنم و با تو حرف می‌زنم و از روحی که به تو داده‌ام، می‌گیرم و به آنها می‌دهم تا در مسئولیّت امور قوم با تو سهیم باشند و تو تنها نباشی.

And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow, and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat.

به مردم اسرائیل بگو: 'خود را برای فردا پاک کنید و به شما گوشت داده می‌شود که بخورید.' به آنها بگو که خداوند نالهٔ شما را شنید که می‌گفتید: 'ای کاش کسی به ما گوشت می‌داد که می‌خوردیم. وقتی‌که در مصر بودیم، وضع بهتری داشتیم.' بنابراین خداوند به شما گوشت می‌دهد.

Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days;

شما نه برای یک روز، دو روز، پنج روز، ده روز یا بیست روز،

But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the LORD which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?

بلکه برای یک ماهِ کامل، آن‌قدر گوشت خواهید خورد که از دماغهایتان بیرون بیاید و از خوردن آن بیزار شوید، زیرا خدایی را که بین شماست رد کردید و افسوس خوردید که چرا از مصر خارج شدید.»

And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.

امّا موسی گفت: «تنها تعداد مردمی که پیاده هستند ششصد هزار است، باز هم تو می‌گویی که برای یک ماه کامل به آنها گوشت می‌دهی؛

Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them?

اگر ما همهٔ رمه و گلّهٔ خود را بکشیم، برای این‌همه مردم کفایت نمی‌کند. یا اگر تمام ماهیان دریا را هم بگیریم، امکان ندارد که همهٔ این مردم را سیر کنیم.»

And the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD'S hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.

خداوند به موسی گفت: «آیا دست خداوند کوتاه است؟ حالا خواهی دید که آنچه گفته‌ام به انجام خواهد رسید یا نه.»

And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the LORD, and gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the tabernacle.

پس موسی از خیمهٔ عبادت خارج شد و آنچه را که خداوند فرموده بود، به مردم گفت. بعد هفتاد نفر از رهبران قوم را جمع کرد و آنها را در اطراف خیمهٔ عبادت قرار داد.

And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.

آنگاه خداوند در ابر نازل شد و با موسی به صحبت پرداخت و از روحی که بر موسی قرار داشت گرفت و بر آن هفتاد نفر رهبر گذاشت. به مجرّدی که روح بر آنها قرار گرفت شروع به نبوّت کردند، امّا بار دیگر نبوّت نکردند.

But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.

دو نفر از آن هفتاد رهبر به نامهای الداد و میداد در اردوگاه مانده و به خیمهٔ عبادت نرفته بودند، امّا روح بر آنها هم قرار گرفت و در اردوگاه نبوّت کردند.

And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.

یک مرد جوان دویده پیش موسی رفت و به او گفت: «الداد و میداد در اردوگاه نبوّت می‌کنند.»

And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.

یوشع، پسر نون که از جوانی دستیار موسی بود گفت: «آقای من، آنها را منع کن.»

And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD'S people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!

امّا موسی به او گفت: «آیا تو به جای من حسادت می‌ورزی؟ ای کاش خداوند روح خود را بر همهٔ قوم خود قرار می‌داد تا همهٔ آنها نبی می‌شدند.»

And Moses gat him into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.

بعد موسی با رهبران به اردو‌گاه برگشتند.

And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day's journey on this side, and as it were a day's journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.

به فرمان خداوند بادی وزید که بلدرچین‌ها را، از دریا با خود آورد. به طوری که اطراف اردوگاه از هر طرف به ارتفاع یک متر و به مسافت چند کیلومتر از بلدرچین پُر شد.

And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.

قوم اسرائیل تمام شب و روز و فردای آن بلدرچین جمع کردند. هیچ‌کس کمتر از سیصد من جمع نکرده بود. مردم بلدرچینها را در اطراف اردوگاه پهن کردند تا خشک شوند.

And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.

امّا هنوز گوشت در زیر دندانشان بود که آتش خشم خداوند بر قوم اسرائیل شعله‌ور شد و بلای سختی را بر آنها نازل کرد و عدّه‌ای از آنها را از بین برد.

And he called the name of that place Kibroth–hattaavah: because there they buried the people that lusted.

بنابراین آنجا را «قبروت هتاوه»، یعنی «قبرستان حرص و طمع» نامیدند، زیرا افرادی را که هوس گوشت کرده بودند، در آنجا دفن نمودند.

And the people journeyed from Kibroth–hattaavah unto Hazeroth; and abode at Hazeroth.

بعد قوم اسرائیل از قبروت هتاوه حرکت کرده، رهسپار حضیروت شدند و مدّتی در آنجا توقّف نمودند.
