Exodus 32

And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

وقتی مردم دیدند که موسی مدّت زیادی در کوه مانده و بازنگشته است، دور هارون جمع شدند و گفتند: «ما نمی‌دانیم چه بر سر این موسی که ما را از مصر بیرون آورد، آمده است. پس خدایی برای ما بساز تا ما را راهنمایی کند.»

And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.

هارون به آنها گفت: «گوشواره‌های طلایی را که در گوش زنها و دختران و پسران شما هست، به نزد من بیاورید.»

And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.

پس تمام مردم، گوشواره‌های طلایی را که به گوشهای خود آویخته بودند، بیرون آورده پیش هارون بردند.

And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

هارون گوشواره‌ها را از ایشان گرفت و آنها را ذوب کرده در قالب ریخت و یک گوسالهٔ طلایی از آن درست کرد. مردم گفتند: «ای اسرائیل، این خدای ماست که ما را از زمین مصر بیرون آورد.»

And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD.

سپس هارون قربانگاهی در مقابل گوسالهٔ طلایی درست کرد و اعلام نمود: «فردا عید مخصوص خداوند است.»

And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.

روز بعد، صبح زود برخاسته و حیواناتی آوردند تا به عنوان قربانی بسوزانند. بعضی هم هدایای سلامتی آوردند و سپس به خوردن و نوشیدن و لهو و لعب پرداختند.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves:

خداوند به موسی فرمود: «فوراً پایین برو. زیرا قوم‌ تو که از زمین مصر بیرون آوردی، گناه کرده و مرا ترک نموده‌اند.

They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

آنها راهی را که من به ایشان نشان دادم ترک کرده‌اند و گوساله‌ای از طلا درست کرده آن را پرستش می‌کنند و برای آن قربانی نموده‌اند. آنها می‌گویند که آن گوساله خدای ایشان است که آنها را از مصر بیرون آورده است.

And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:

من می‌دانم که آنها چه مردمان خودسر و نافرمانی هستند.

Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation.

تو دیگر برای آنها شفاعت نکن چون من از دست آنها خشمگین هستم و می‌خواهم آنها را نابود کنم. سپس از تو و از نسلهای تو قوم بزرگی به وجود می‌آورم.»

And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand?

امّا موسی نزد خداوند خدای خود التماس نموده گفت: «ای خداوند، چرا با قوم خود چنین خشمگین هستی، قومی که با قدرت و عظمت آنها را از مصر بیرون آوردی؟

Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.

چرا مصریان بتوانند بگویند که تو، قوم خود را از مصر بیرون بردی تا آنها را در کوه و بیابان هلاک کنی و از بین ببری؟ از خشم خود بگذر و از تصمیم خود منصرف شو و این بلا را بر سر قوم خود نیاور.

Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.

ابراهیم و اسحاق و یعقوب، بندگان خود را به یاد آور. قول و قسمی‌که برای ایشان خوردی به‌خاطر بیاور که فرمودی نسل آنها را مانند ستارگان آسمان زیاد می‌کنی و تمام سرزمینی را که به ایشان قول دادی به آنها می‌دهی که تا ابدالآباد مال خودشان باشد.»

And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.

پس خداوند از خشم خود صرف نظر فرمود و آن بلا را بر سر قومش نیاورد.

And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand: the tables were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written.

موسی از کوه پایین رفت و دو لوح سنگی که احكام بر دو طرف آن نوشته شده بود، در دستش بود.

And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables.

این لوح‌های سنگی را خدا خودش ساخته و احكام را بر روی آنها نوشته بود.

And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp.

وقتی‌که یوشع سر و صدا و فریاد مردم را شنید، به موسی گفت: «این صداها صدای جنگ در اردوگاه است.»

And he said, It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome: but the noise of them that sing do I hear.

موسی در جواب گفت: «این صداها شبیه صدای پیروزی و یا نالهٔ شکست نیست، بلکه صدای آواز خواندن است.»

And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.

وقتی‌که موسی به نزدیک اردو رسید و گوساله طلایی و مردمی‌ را که می‌رقصیدند، دید، خشمگین شد و لوح‌ها را در پای کوه به زمین زد و شکست.

And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.

سپس گوساله‌ای را که ساخته بودند برداشت و در آتش سوزانید و مثل پودر آن را نرم کرد و سپس با آب مخلوط نموده و آن آب را به اسرائیلی‌ها نوشانید.

And Moses said unto Aaron, What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought so great a sin upon them?

موسی به هارون گفت: «این مردم با تو چه‌کار کرده‌اند که تو با آنها مرتکب چنین گناهی شدی؟»

And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot: thou knowest the people, that they are set on mischief.

هارون گفت: «از من عصبانی نشو، تو می‌دانی که این مردم چطور مشتاق گناه هستند.

For they said unto me, Make us gods, which shall go before us: for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

آنها به من گفتند که ما نمی‌دانیم چه بر سر این موسی که ما را از مصر بیرون آورده است، آمده. پس برای ما خدایی درست کن تا ما را رهبری کند.

And I said unto them, Whosoever hath any gold, let them break it off. So they gave it me: then I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.

من از آنها خواستم تا طلاهای خود را به نزد من بیاورند و آنها هم آوردند. سپس طلاها را در آتش انداختم و این گوساله بیرون آمد!»

And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies:)

موسی دید که هارون اجازه داده قوم یاغی شوند و خود را در نظر دشمنانشان احمق نشان دهند.

Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD'S side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.

بنابراین در مقابل دروازهٔ اردوگاه ایستاده فریاد کرد و گفت: «تمام کسانی‌که طرف خداوند هستند، اینجا پیش من بیایند.» تمام طایفهٔ لاوی به نزد موسی رفتند.

And he said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour.

موسی به آنها گفت: «خدای بنی‌اسرائیل می‌فرماید هریکی از شما شمشیر خود را ببندد و از این طرف اردو به آن طرف اردو برود و برادر و دوست و همسایهٔ خود را بکشد.»

And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.

لاویان دستور موسی را اطاعت کردند و در آن روز نزدیک به سه هزار مرد را کشتند.

For Moses had said, Consecrate yourselves to day to the LORD, even every man upon his son, and upon his brother; that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day.

موسی به لاویان گفت: «شما امروز با کشتن پسران و برادران خویش، خود را برای خدا وقف نموده‌اید تا به عنوان کاهنان، خداوند را خدمت کنید. بنابراین خداوند خودش شما را برکت داده است.»

And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin.

روز بعد، موسی به مردم گفت: «شما مرتکب گناه بزرگی شده‌اید. امّا من دوباره بالای کوه می‌روم، شاید بتوانم از خدا برای شما آمرزش بطلبم.»

And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.

موسی دوباره به نزد خداوند رفت و عرض کرد: «این مردم گناه بزرگی مرتکب شده‌اند. آنها خدایی از طلا برای خود درست کرده آن را پرستش نموده‌اند.

Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin―; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.

حالا از تو تقاضا می‌کنم، گناه آنها را ببخشی. امّا اگر حاضر نیستی که گناه آنها را ببخشی، پس اسم مرا هم از دفتری که نوشته‌ای، پاک کن.»

And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.

خداوند در جواب فرمود: «من نام کسانی را که برضد من گناه کرده‌اند از دفتر خود پاک می‌کنم.

Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine Angel shall go before thee: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin upon them.

حالا برو و قوم را به جایی که به تو گفته‌ام رهبری کن. به‌خاطر داشته‌ باش که فرشتهٔ من تو را راهنمایی خواهد کرد. ولی موقع آن هم خواهد رسید که من قوم را به‌خاطر گناهی که کرده‌اند مجازات کنم.»

And the LORD plagued the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.

پس خداوند آن قوم را به‌خاطر اینکه هارون را مجبور کرده بودند که گوسالهٔ طلایی برای آنها بسازد، به بیماری مبتلا نمود.
