Exodus 3

Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.

یک روز وقتی موسی گلّهٔ گوسفندان و بُزهای پدر زنش یترون، کاهن مدیان را می‌چرانید، گلّه را به طرف غرب بیابان برد تا به کوه مقدّس، یعنی سینا رسید.

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

در آنجا فرشتهٔ خداوند از میان شعله‌های آتشِ بوته‌ای بر او ظاهر شد. موسی نگاه کرد و دید که بوته شعله‌ور است امّا نمی‌سوزد!

And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.

پس با خود گفت: «نزدیک بروم و این چیز عجیب را ببینم که چرا بوته نمی‌سوزد!»

And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

وقتی خداوند دید موسی نزدیک می‌آید، از میان بوتهٔ آتش او را صدا کرد و فرمود: «موسی، موسی!» موسی عرض کرد: «بلی حاضرم.»

And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

خدا فرمود: «نزدیکتر نیا! نعلینت را از پایت بیرون بیاور چون جایی که ایستاده‌ای زمین مقدّس است.

Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

من، خدای اجداد تو هستم. خدای ابراهیم، اسحاق و یعقوب.» موسی صورت خود را پوشانید چون ترسید که به خدا نگاه کند.

And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;

آنگاه خداوند فرمود: «زحمات قوم خود را که در مصر هستند دیدم و ناله و زاری آنها را از دست سرکارگران شنیدم. من تمام رنج و عذاب آنها را می‌دانم.

And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

«بنابراین نازل شده‌ام تا آنها را از دست مصری‌ها نجات بدهم و از مصر بیرون آورده به سرزمینی غنی و حاصلخیز ببرم. به سرزمینی که اکنون کنعانیان، حِتّیان، اموریان، فرزیان، حویان و یبوسیان در آن زندگی می‌کنند.

Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.

من فریاد قوم خود را شنیده‌ام و می‌دانم که چگونه مصری‌ها به آنها ظلم می‌کنند.

Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.

حالا بیا تو را نزد فرعون بفرستم تا تو قوم من بنی‌اسرائیل را از این سرزمین بیرون بیاوری.»

And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?

موسی به خدا عرض کرد: «ای خداوند، من کیستم که نزد فرعون بروم تا بنی‌‌اسرائیل را از مصر بیرون بیاورم؟»

And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.

خدا فرمود: «من با تو خواهم بود و وقتی‌که تو قوم مرا از مصر بیرون بیاوری، مرا در این کوه پرستش خواهید کرد. این نشانه‌ای خواهد بود که من تو را فرستاده‌ام.»

And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?

موسی به خدا گفت: «وقتی من به نزد بنی‌اسرائیل بروم و بگویم که خدای اجداد شما مرا نزد شما فرستاده است و آنها از من بپرسند که اسم او چیست، به آنها چه بگویم؟»

And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

خدا فرمود: «هستم آنکه هستم. به بنی‌اسرائیل بگو او كه 'هستم' نامیده می‌شود مرا نزد شما فرستاده است.

And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

به آنها بگو: 'خداوند خدای اجداد شما، خدای ابراهیم، اسحاق و یعقوب مرا نزد شما فرستاده است.' اسم من تا ابد همین خواهد بود و تمام نسلهای آینده باید مرا به همین اسم بخوانند.

Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt:

برو و تمام رهبران قوم اسرائیل را جمع کن و به آنها بگو که خداوند، خدای اجداد شما، خدای ابراهیم، اسحاق و یعقوب بر من ظاهر شد و گفت که من شما و آنچه را که مصریان با شما می‌کنند مشاهده کردم.

And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, unto a land flowing with milk and honey.

من تصمیم گرفته‌ام که شما را از مصر، که در آن عذاب می‌کشید، بیرون بیاورم. من شما را به سرزمینی که غنی و حاصلخیز است می‌برم. جایی که اکنون کنعانیان، حِتّیان، اموریان، فرزیان، حویان و یبوسیان در آن زندگی می‌کنند.

And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.

«قوم من به سخنان تو گوش خواهند داد. سپس تو به اتّفاق رهبران قوم اسرائیل به نزد فرعون برو و به او بگو: 'خداوند خدای عبرانیان، خود را بر ما ظاهر کرده است. حالا ما از تو تقاضا داریم که اجازه بدهی مدّت سه روز به صحرا برویم و برای خداوند خدای خود، قربانی بگذرانیم.'

And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand.

من می‌دانم که فرعون این اجازه را به شما نخواهد داد، مگر به انجام این كار مجبور شود.

And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you go.

امّا من قدرت خود را به کار می‌برم و مصر را با کارهای عجیبی که در آن انجام خواهم داد، تنبیه می‌کنم. بعد از آن او به شما اجازه می‌دهد که بروید.

And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty:

«من قوم خود را در نظر مصریان محترم خواهم ساخت. بنابراین وقتی بیرون می‌روید دست خالی نخواهید بود.

But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.

هر زن اسرائیلی به نزد همسایهٔ مصری خود و یا هر زن مصری که در خانهٔ او هست برود و از آنها لباس و زینت‌آلات طلا و نقره بگیرد و شما آنها را به پسران و دختران خود بپوشانید و به این ترتیب ثروت مصری‌ها را غارت خواهید کرد.»
