Exodus 23

Thou shalt not raise a false report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.

«شایعات باطل را انتشار ندهید و با شهادات دروغ از شریران پشتیبانی نکنید.

Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment:

در انجام کارهای خلاف همرنگ جماعت نشوید و در موقع دعوا، به‌خاطر پیروی از اکثریت، شهادت دروغ ندهید و حق را پایمال نکنید.

Neither shalt thou countenance a poor man in his cause.

در محاكمهٔ فقیر، به‌خاطر اینکه فقیر است از او طرفداری نکنید.

If thou meet thine enemy's ox or his ass going astray, thou shalt surely bring it back to him again.

«اگر گاو یا گوسفند دشمن خود را دیدید که گُمشده است، آن را به او بازگردانید.

If thou see the ass of him that hateth thee lying under his burden, and wouldest forbear to help him, thou shalt surely help with him.

اگر دیدید که الاغ دشمنتان زیر بار خوابیده است، هرچند که از آن شخص روگردان هستید، ولی کمک کنید تا الاغ بلند شود.

Thou shalt not wrest the judgment of thy poor in his cause.

«وقتی با شخص فقیری اختلاف دارید، حق او را ضایع نکنید.

Keep thee far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous slay thou not: for I will not justify the wicked.

از تهمت ناحق دوری کنید و باعث مرگ افراد بی‌گناه نشوید. زیرا من کسانی را که این‌گونه کارهای خلاف انجام می‌دهند، محكوم خواهم كرد.

And thou shalt take no gift: for the gift blindeth the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous.

از گرفتن رشوه خودداری کنید، زیرا رشوه چشم مردم را کور می‌کند و دعوی مردم درستکار را خلاف نشان می‌دهد.

Also thou shalt not oppress a stranger: for ye know the heart of a stranger, seeing ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

«کسی را که غریب است اذیّت نکنید. شما می‌دانید که غریب بودن یعنی چه، زیرا خودتان در مصر غریب بودید.

And six years thou shalt sow thy land, and shalt gather in the fruits thereof:

«شش سال در زمین خود زراعت کنید و محصول آن را جمع نمایید.

But the seventh year thou shalt let it rest and lie still; that the poor of thy people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy vineyard, and with thy oliveyard.

امّا در سال هفتم آن را به حال خود بگذارید و در آن زراعت نکنید. بگذارید مردمان فقیر قوم شما، هرچه در آن می‌روید بخورند و آنچه را هم که از آن باقی می‌ماند، حیوانات صحرا بخورند. در مورد تاکستان و درختان زیتون خود هم همین‌طور عمل کنید.

Six days thou shalt do thy work, and on the seventh day thou shalt rest: that thine ox and thine ass may rest, and the son of thy handmaid, and the stranger, may be refreshed.

«هفته‌ای شش روز کار کنید، امّا روز هفتم کار نکنید تا غلامان و افراد غریبی که برای شما کار می‌کنند، و همچنین حیوانات شما استراحت کنند.

And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.

«به آنچه من که خداوند هستم، به شما گفتم گوش کنید. خطاب به خدایان دیگر دعا نكنید و حتّی نام آنها را بر زبان نیاورید.

Three times thou shalt keep a feast unto me in the year.

«هر سال سه مرتبه برای من عید بگیرید:

Thou shalt keep the feast of unleavened bread: (thou shalt eat unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded thee, in the time appointed of the month Abib; for in it thou camest out from Egypt: and none shall appear before me empty:)

عید فطیر در ماه ابیب، زیرا در آن ماه از مصر خارج شدید. همان‌طور که به شما دستور داده‌ام، هفت روز نان فطیر بخورید و هیچ‌کس بدون هدیه برای پرستش من نیاید.

And the feast of harvest, the firstfruits of thy labours, which thou hast sown in the field: and the feast of ingathering, which is in the end of the year, when thou hast gathered in thy labours out of the field.

«عید نوبر محصولات، هنگامی که محصولات خود را که در مزرعه‌تان کاشته‌اید درو می‌کنید. «عید خیمه‌ها در پاییز، هنگامی‌كه میوه‌ها را از تاكستانها و باغهای خودتان جمع‌آوری می‌كنید.

Three times in the year all thy males shall appear before the Lord GOD.

هر سال سه مرتبه تمام افراد ذکور باید برای پرستش من، که خدای شما هستم، حاضر شوند.

Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread; neither shall the fat of my sacrifice remain until the morning.

«هنگامی‌که برای من قربانی می‌گذرانید، نانی را که با خمیرمایه درست شده است هدیه نکنید، و چربی حیواناتی که در این عید برای من قربانی می‌کنید برای صبح روز بعد باقی نماند.

The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring into the house of the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk.

«هر سال نوبر محصولات زمین خود را به خانهٔ خداوند خدایتان بیاورید، «هرگز بُزغاله را در شیر مادرش نپزید.

Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.

«من یک فرشته پیشاپیش شما می‌فرستم تا شما را در راه محافظت کند و به جایی که برای شما آماده کرده‌ام برساند.

Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not; for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him.

خوب به او توجّه کنید و از او اطاعت نمایید. از او سرپیچی نکنید زیرا من او را فرستاده‌ام و او عصیان شما را نخواهد بخشید.

But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.

امّا اگر شما از او اطاعت کنید و آنچه به شما دستور داده‌ام بجا آورید، من با همهٔ دشمنان شما خواهم جنگید.

For mine Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off.

فرشتهٔ من پیشاپیش شما می‌رود و شما را به سرزمین اموریان، حِتّیان، فرزیان، کنعانیان، حویان و یبوسیان خواهد آورد و من همهٔ آنها را نابود خواهم کرد.

Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images.

در مقابل خدایان آنها سجده نکنید و آنها را پرستش منمایید، در کارهای مذهبی آنها شرکت نکنید. بلکه همهٔ آنها را خراب کنید و ستونهای مقدّس سنگی آنها را بشکنید.

And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.

اگر شما مرا، خداوند خدایتان را پرستش نمایید، من شما را با غذا و آب برکت خواهم داد و تمامی ‌مرضهای شما را برخواهم داشت.

There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfil.

در سرزمین شما زنی که بچّهٔ خود را سقط کند و همچنین زن نازا نخواهد بود. من عمر طولانی به شما می‌دهم.

I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee.

«من ترس خود را پیش از شما در بین تمام مللی که شما از نزد آنها عبور خواهید کرد، می‌فرستم. اقوامی‌ را که شما با آنان جنگ كنید دچار اغتشاش خواهم ساخت. کاری می‌کنم که تمام دشمنانتان از دست شما فرار کنند.

And I will send hornets before thee, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before thee.

من دشمنان شما را به وحشت دچار خواهم كرد تا حویان، کنعانیان و حِتّیان را فراری دهند.

I will not drive them out from before thee in one year; lest the land become desolate, and the beast of the field multiply against thee.

آنها را مدّت یک سال بیرون نخواهم کرد، مبادا آن زمین به ویرانه تبدیل شود و حیوانات وحشی به شما حمله کنند.

By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land.

بلکه آنها را کم‌کم بیرون می‌کنم تا افراد شما به اندازهٔ کافی بتوانند آن زمین را تصرّف کنند.

And I will set thy bounds from the Red sea even unto the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert unto the river: for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand; and thou shalt drive them out before thee.

حدود و مرز سرزمین شما را از خلیج عقبه تا دریای مدیترانه و از صحرا تا رود فرات قرار می‌دهم و ساکنان آنجا را به دست شما تسلیم می‌کنم و شما آنها را بیرون خواهید کرد.

Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.

شما هیچ عهد و پیمانی با آنها و با خدایان آنها نبندید.

They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto thee.

اجازه ندهید که آنها در سرزمین شما بمانند، مبادا شما را به گناه علیه من بكشانند. اگر خدایان آنها را عبادت کنید، این برای شما دامی خواهد شد.»
