III John 1

The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.

از طرف یكی از رهبران كلیسا به «غایوس» عزیز كه واقعاً دوستش دارم.

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

ای عزیز، دعا می‌کنم كه روزگار بر وفق مراد تو باشد و همان‌طور كه در روح سالم هستی، از سلامتی بدن نیز برخوردار باشی.

For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

وقتی بعضی از ایمانداران به اینجا آمدند و به من خبر دادند كه تو چقدر به حقیقت الهی وفادار هستی، یعنی چگونه مطابق حقیقت رفتار می‌کنی، خیلی خوشحال شدم.

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

هیچ چیز بیش از این مرا خوشحال نمی‌سازد كه بشنوم فرزندان من بر طبق حقیقت رفتار می‌کنند.

Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;

ای عزیز، از تمام كارهایی كه برای این ایمانداران انجام می‌دهی، هرچند آنها را نمی‌شناسی، معلوم می‌شود که با وفاداری كار می‌کنی.

Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:

آنها برای كلیسای اینجا از مهربانی تو تعریف کرده‌اند. اگر به طور خداپسندانه به آنها كمک كنی تا سفر خود را ادامه دهند، كاری نیكو کرده‌ای.

Because that for his name's sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.

زیرا آنها این سفر را به عنوان خدمتی به مسیح شروع کرده‌اند و از غیر مسیحیان كمک قبول نمی‌کنند.

We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.

پس ما مسیحیان موظّفیم، با پذیرایی از چنین اشخاص در انتشار حقیقت همكاری كنیم.

I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

من نامه‌ای مختصر به كلیسا نوشتم، امّا «دیوترفس» كه همیشه دوست دارد خود را جلو بیندازد و سخنان ما را قبول نمی‌کند.

Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.

وقتی بیایم كلیسا را از تمام كارهایی كه او كرده و تمام اتّهامات بی‌اساس و نادرستی که به ما زده است، مطّلع خواهم ساخت. او به این كارها اكتفا نكرده بلكه ایمانداران را نیز به خانهٔ خود راه نمی‌دهند و مانع می‌شود كه دیگران نیز از آنها پذیرایی كنند و اگر بعضی‌ها چنین كنند، او آنان را از كلیسا بیرون می‌کند.

Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

ای دوست عزیز، نیكویی را دنبال كن نه بدی را. شخص نیكوكار فرزند خداست، بدكار هرگز خدا را ندیده است.

Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.

همه از «دیمیتریوس» به نیكی سخن می‌گویند -‌حقیقت هم همین است- و ما نیز گفتار آنها را تأیید می‌کنیم و تو می‌دانی كه شهادت ما قابل اعتماد است.

I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:

مطالب زیادی هست كه باید برای تو بنویسم، امّا نمی‌خواهم آن را با قلم و مركب روی كاغذ بیاورم.

But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.

امیدوارم تو را خیلی زود ببینم و روبه‌رو با هم صحبت كنیم.
