II Samuel 5

Then came all the tribes of Israel to David unto Hebron, and spake, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

رهبران طایفه‌های اسرائیل به حضور داوود در حبرون آمدند و گفتند: «ما گوشت و استخوان تو هستیم.

Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain over Israel.

پیش از این هرچند شائول پادشاه ما بود، ولی تو در جنگها رهبر ما بودی و خداوند فرمود که تو باید شبان و راهنمای مردم اسرائیل باشی.»

So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel.

پس رهبران اسرائیل در حبرون به حضور پادشاه جمع شدند و داوود پادشاه با‌ آنها پیمان بست. مطابق آن پیمان، داوود را به عنوان پادشاه خود مسح نمودند.

David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.

داوود سی ساله بود که پادشاه شد و مدّت چهل سال سلطنت کرد.

In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah.

او قبلاً مدّت هفت سال و شش ماه در حبرون پادشاه یهودا بود. بعد مدّت سی و سه سال در اورشلیم بر تمام یهودیه و اسرائیل پادشاهی کرد.

And the king and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: which spake unto David, saying, Except thou take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in hither: thinking, David cannot come in hither.

داوود و سپاهش به مقابله با یبوسیان که در اورشلیم ساکن بودند رفتند. یبوسیان گمان می‌کردند داوود نمی‌تواند وارد شهر شود و به داوود گفتند: «تو نمی‌توانی به اینجا وارد شوی، زیرا حتّی اشخاص کور و لنگ هم می‌توانند از آمدن تو جلوگیری کنند.»

Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the same is the city of David.

امّا داوود شهر مستحکم صهیون را تصرّف کرد و آن را شهر داوود نامید.

And David said on that day, Whosoever getteth up to the gutter, and smiteth the Jebusites, and the lame and the blind, that are hated of David's soul, he shall be chief and captain. Wherefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.

آن روز داوود به مردان خود گفت: «آیا کسی بیشتر از من از یبوسیان متنفّر است؟ به اندازه‌ای که بخواهد آنها را بکشد؟ پس از راه مجرای قنات داخل شهر شوید و به این مردم کور و لنگ حمله کنید.» به همین دلیل است که گفته‌اند: «کوران و لنگان نمی‌توانند وارد خانهٔ خدا شوند.»

So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward.

بعد از تسخیر قلعه، داوود در آنجا ساکن شد و در اطرافش از جایی که خاک‌ریزی شده بود به داخل، شهری ساخت و آن را شهر داوود نامید.

And David went on, and grew great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him.

داوود روز به روز قویتر می‌شد، زیرا خداوند خدای متعال همراه او بود.

And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons: and they built David an house.

حیرام، پادشاه صور پیکهایی را با چوبهای درخت سرو، نجّار و سنگتراش برای داوود فرستاد تا برای او خانه‌ای بسازند.

And David perceived that the LORD had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel's sake.

آنگاه داوود دانست که خداوند به‌خاطر مردم اسرائیل او را به پادشاهی برگزیده و سلطنت او را کامیاب نموده است.

And David took him more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he was come from Hebron: and there were yet sons and daughters born to David.

پس از آنکه داوود از حبرون به اورشلیم رفت، صیغه‌‌ها و زنان دیگر هم گرفت. آنها برایش پسران و دختران دیگر به دنیا آوردند.

And these be the names of those that were born unto him in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,

اینها نامهای فرزندان او هستند که در اورشلیم متولّد شدند: شموع، شوباب، ناتان، سلیمان،

Ibhar also, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

یَبحار، الیشوع، نافج، یافیع،

And Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphalet.

الیشمع، الیاداع و الیفلط.

But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the hold.

چون فلسطینی‌ها شنیدند که داوود به پادشاهی اسرائیل انتخاب شده است، همهٔ نیروهای آنها برای دستگیری او رفتند. وقتی داوود از آمدن آنها باخبر شد، به داخل قلعه رفت.

The Philistines also came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.

فلسطینی‌ها آمده، در دشت رفائیان مستقر شدند.

And David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand.

داوود از خداوند پرسید: «آیا به فلسطینی‌ها حمله کنم؟ آیا تو مرا پیروز خواهی کرد؟» خداوند پاسخ داد: «برو، من تو را پیروز خواهم کرد.»

And David came to Baal–perazim, and David smote them there, and said, The LORD hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baal–perazim.

داوود رفت و در بعل فراصیم با فلسطینیان جنگید و آنها را شکست داد و گفت: «خداوند مانند سیلاب خروشانی دشمنان را شکست داد.» به همین دلیل آنجا را بعل فراصیم نامیدند.

And there they left their images, and David and his men burned them.

بعد داوود و سپاهیانش بُتهایی را که فلسطینی‌ها بجا گذاشته بودند، با خود بردند.

And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.

فلسطینی‌ها دوباره آمدند و بازهم در دشت رفائیان مستقر شدند.

And when David enquired of the LORD, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.

وقتی داوود بار دیگر از خداوند پرسید، خداوند به وی فرمود: «این بار از روبه‌رو حمله نکن، بلکه از پشت سر و از پیش درختان به مقابلهٔ آنها برو.

And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the LORD go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.

وقتی که صدای پا را از بالای درختان شنیدی، آنگاه حمله کن! زیرا این نشانهٔ آن است که خداوند راه را برایت باز کرده است تا بروی و سپاه فلسطینی‌ها را از بین ببری.»

And David did so, as the LORD had commanded him; and smote the Philistines from Geba until thou come to Gazer.

داوود آنچه را خداوند امر کرده بود انجام داد و فلسطینی‌ها را از جبعه تا جازر به عقب راند.
