II Chronicles 14

So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.

ابیا درگذشت و با پدرانش در شهر داوود به خاک سپرده شد و پسرش، آسا به جای او بر تخت سلطنت نشست. در دوران سلطنت آسا سرزمین یهودا برای مدّت ده سال از امنیّت و آرامش کامل برخودار بود.

And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:

آسا با کارها و کردار نیک رضایت خداوند، خدای خود را حاصل کرد.

For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:

او قربانگاههای بیگانه و پرستشگاههای روی تپّه‌ها را از میان برداشت و الهه‌های ‌اشره را درهم شکست.

And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.

او به یهودا فرمان داد تا خواستار خداوند، خدای نیاکانشان باشند و قوانین و فرمانهای خدا را بجا آورند.

Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.

او همچنین تمام پرستشگاههای بالای تپّه‌ها و قربانگاههای بُخور را در شهرهای یهودا از میان برداشت.

And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.

او در زمان صلح شهرهای مستحکمی در یهودا ساخت. او در آن سالها جنگی نداشت زیرا خداوند به او آرامش داده بود.

Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.

او به یهودا گفت: «بیایید شهرهایی بسازیم و با دیوارها، و بُرجها و دروازه‌‌ها و پشت‌بندها آنها را احاطه کنیم، دلیلی که ما اکنون این سرزمین را داریم این است که خداوند، خدایمان را خواستار شدیم. ما او را خواستیم و او از هر سو به ما صلح بخشیده است.» پس شهرها را ساختند و کامیاب شدند.

And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.

آسا لشکری متشکّل از سیصد هزار نفر از یهودا مسلّح به سپرهای بزرگ و نیزه و دویست و هشتاد هزار سرباز از بنیامین که مجهّز به سپرهای کوچک و کمان بودند، داشت. همهٔ ایشان رزمندگانی شجاع بودند.

And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.

زارح حبشی با ارتش یک میلیون نفری و سیصد ارّابه علیه ایشان برخاست و تا مریشه پیشروی کرد.

Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

آنگاه آسا خارج شد تا با او روبه‌رو شود و در درّهٔ صفاته، در مریشه موضع گرفتند.

And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.

آسا خداوند، خدای خود را چنین نیایش کرد: «ای خداوند، برای تو یاری دادن به زورمندان و ناتوانان یکسان است. ما را کمک کن، ای خداوند، خدای ما! زیرا ما به تو تکیه کرده‌ایم و به نام تو در برابر این گروه عظیم آمده‌ایم. ای خداوند، تو خدای ما هستی و نگذار هیچ انسانی بر تو چیره شود!»

So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

پس خداوند حبشی‌ها را در برابر آسا و یهودا شکست داد و حبشی‌ها گریختند.

And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.

آسا و ارتش او تا جرار، حبشی‌ها را دنبال کردند و همهٔ ایشان را از پای در آوردند، زیرا ایشان در برابر خداوند و لشکر او شکست خورده بودند. مردم یهودا غنایم فراوانی گرفتند.

And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.

ایشان تمام شهرهای اطراف جرار را شکست دادند، زیرا ترس خداوند ایشان را دربرگرفته بود. آنها تمام شهرها را چپاول کردند و مقدار زیادی غنیمت گرفتند.

They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.

ایشان همچنین به اردوهای شبانان حمله کردند و گلّه‌های زیادی از گوسفند و بُز و شتر گرفتند، آنگاه به اورشلیم بازگشتند.
