I Chronicles 21

And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.

شیطان علیه اسرائیل برخاست و داوود را اغوا کرد تا مردم اسرائیل را سرشماری کند.

And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer–sheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it.

پس داوود به یوآب و فرماندهان ارتش گفت: «بروید و گزارش آمار قوم اسرائیل را از دان تا بئرشبع برای من بیاورید تا جمعیّت کشور را بدانم.»

And Joab answered, The LORD make his people an hundred times so many more as they be: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord's servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel?

یوآب پاسخ داد «خداوند جمعیّت قوم خود را صد برابر آنچه هست کند، ای سرورم پادشاه آیا همهٔ ایشان بندگان تو نیستند؟ چرا سرورم می‌خواهد چنین کند؟ چرا او می‌خواهد اسرائیل را به گناه بکشد؟»

Nevertheless the king's word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.

امّا پادشاه یوآب را وادار به قبول دستور خود کرد، پس یوآب رفت و در سراسر کشور اسرائیل سفر کرد و به اورشلیم بازگشت

And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and an hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah was four hundred threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword.

او به داوود پادشاه گزارش کلّ آمار کسانی را که قادر به خدمت نظام وظیفه بودند داد: یک میلیون و صد هزار نفر در اسرائیل و چهارصد و هفتاد هزار نفر در یهودا بودند.

But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them: for the king's word was abominable to Joab.

چون فرمان پادشاه مورد تأیید یوآب نبود، او طایفه‌ها لاوی و بنیامین را سرشماری ننمود.

And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel.

خداوند از این رویداد خشنود نبود و اسرائیل را مجازات کرد.

And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.

داوود به خدا گفت: «من به‌خاطر این کارها مرتکب گناه بزرگی شده‌ام. امّا اکنون به درگاهت دعا می‌کنم که گناه بنده‌ات را ببخشی، چون من بی‌خردانه عمل کرده‌ام.»

And the LORD spake unto Gad, David's seer, saying,

آنگاه خداوند به جاد که رائی داوود بود فرمود:

Go and tell David, saying, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.

«برو به داوود بگو: خداوند می‌فرماید: 'سه چیز به تو پیشنهاد می‌کنم. تو یکی از آنها را انتخاب کن تا من برایت انجام بدهم.'»

So Gad came to David, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Choose thee

پس جاد نزد داوود رفت و به او گفت: «خداوند می‌فرماید که آنچه را می‌خواهی برگزین:

Either three years' famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even the pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel. Now therefore advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me.

سه سال قحطی یا سه ماه گریز از دشمن یا سه روز که خداوند با شمشیرش به شما حمله خواهد کرد و بلا به سرزمین شما فرود خواهد آورد و فرشتهٔ خداوند در سراسر اسرائیل مرگ خواهد آورد؟ اکنون تصمیم بگیر، چه پاسخی برای خداوند ببرم؟»

And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the LORD; for very great are his mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man.

داوود به جاد گفت: «من بسیار پریشان هستم، بگذار به دست خداوند بیافتم، زیرا رحمت او عظیم است، امّا نگذار به دست انسان بیفتم.»

So the LORD sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.

پس خداوند بیماری کشنده‌ای به اسرائیل فرستاد و هفتاد هزار نفر از پای درآمدند.

And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORD beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.

خداوند فرشته‌ای را به اورشلیم فرستاد تا آن را نابود کند، امّا او تغییر عقیده داد و به فرشته گفت: «بس است، دست نگه‌دار!» در این هنگام فرشتهٔ خداوند در خرمنگاه ارونه یبوسی ایستاده بود.

And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.

داوود به بالا نگاه کرد و فرشتهٔ خداوند را دید که بین زمین و آسمان ایستاده است، و در دستش شمشیری برهنه گرفته است و آن را به سوی اورشلیم دراز کرده است. آنگاه داوود و رهبران قوم پلاس پوشیدند و با صورت به روی زمین افتادند.

And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father's house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.

داوود دعا کرده گفت: «خدایا، من گناه کرده‌ام. من دستور سرشماری را صادر کرده‌ام. این مردم چه گناهی مرتکب شده‌اند؟ خداوندا، خدای من، مرا و خاندان مرا تنبیه کن و قوم را ببخشای.»

Then the angel of the LORD commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and set up an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.

آنگاه فرشتهٔ خداوند به جاد گفت: «به داوود بگو که قربانگاهی برای خداوند در خرمنگاه ارنان یبوسی بسازد.»

And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spake in the name of the LORD.

پس داوود به پیروی از فرمان خداوند که توسط جاد داده شده بود، به راه افتاد.

And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.

اُرنان در حال کوبیدن گندم بود و وقتی روی گردانید و فرشته را دید، چهار پسرش که با او بودند، خود را پنهان کردند، امّا ارنان همچنان گندم می‌کوبید.

And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshingfloor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.

وقتی داوود به آنجا رسید، ارنان او را دید و از خرمنگاه بیرون شد. نزد داوود رفت و در برابرش روی بر زمین نهاد.

Then David said to Ornan, Grant me the place of this threshingfloor, that I may build an altar therein unto the LORD: thou shalt grant it me for the full price: that the plague may be stayed from the people.

داوود به ارنان گفت: «زمین خرمنگاه را به من بفروش، زیرا می‌خواهم برای خداوند قربانگاهی بسازم تا بلا از سر مردم رفع شود و من تمام بهای آن را به تو می‌پردازم.»

And Ornan said unto David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give thee the oxen also for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meat offering; I give it all.

آنگاه ارنان به داوود گفت: «ای سرورم، پادشاه این را بگیرید و آنچه در نظر شما نیکوست، با آن انجام دهید. من گاوها را برای قربانی سوختنی، خرمنکوب را برای چوب و گندم را برای هدیهٔ آردی تقدیم می‌کنم، من همه را می‌دهم.»

And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.

امّا داوود پادشاه به ارنان گفت: «خیر، من بهای کامل آنها را خواهم پرداخت، من آنچه را که از آن توست برای خداوند نمی‌گیرم و قربانی سوختنی را که رایگان باشد، تقدیم نخواهم کرد.»

So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight.

پس داوود به ارنان قیمت زمین را که ششصد تکه طلا بود پرداخت.

And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called upon the LORD; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering.

او در آنجا قربانگاهی برای خداوند ساخت و قربانی سوختنی و سلامتی تقدیم نمود و بعد به حضور خداوند دعا کرد. خداوند آتشی را از آسمان بر قربانگاه قربانی سوختنی فرستاد.

And the LORD commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the sheath thereof.

آنگاه خداوند به فرشته فرمان داد و او شمشیر خود را در غلاف نهاد.

At that time when David saw that the LORD had answered him in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.

در آن زمان هنگامی‌‌‌که داوود دید که خداوند به او در خرمنگاه ارنان یبوسی پاسخ گفته است، او قربانی‌های خود را در آنجا بجا آورد.

For the tabernacle of the LORD, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering, were at that season in the high place at Gibeon.

چون در آن زمان، خیمهٔ مقدّس و قربانگاهی که موسی ساخته بود، بر فراز تپّه‌ای در جبعون قرار داشت،

But David could not go before it to enquire of God: for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the LORD.

امّا داوود نمی‌توانست برای نیایش خداوند به آنجا برود، زیرا از شمشیر فرشتهٔ خداوند می‌ترسید.
