Proverbs 23

When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee:

Когато седнеш да ядеш с управител, много внимавай какво има пред теб,

And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.

и сложи нож на гърлото си, ако си лаком.

Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.

Не пожелавай неговите лакомства, защото те са измамни гозби.

Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.

Не се старай да се обогатиш, отдалечи се от тази си мъдрост.

Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

Насочиш ли към него очите си — и го няма; защото богатството наистина си прави крила като орел, който лети към небето.

Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats:

Не яж хляба на онзи, който има лошо око, и не пожелавай неговите лакомства,

For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

защото каквито са мислите в душата му, такъв е и той. Казва ти: Яж и пий! — но сърцето му не е с теб.

The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.

Залъка, който си изял, ще повърнеш и ще изгубиш сладките си думи.

Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

Не говори в ушите на безумния, защото той ще презре мъдростта на думите ти.

Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:

Не премествай стари граници и не навлизай в нивите на сираците,

For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee.

защото Изкупителят им е мощен, Той ще защити делото им против теб.

Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

Предай сърцето си на поука и ушите си — на думи на знание.

Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.

Не задържай наказанието от детето, защото, ако и да го биеш с пръчката, то няма да умре.

Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.

Ти ще го биеш с пръчката, но ще избавиш душата му от Шеол.

My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.

Сине мой, ако сърцето ти Е мъдро, и моето сърце ще се радва;

Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.

и сърцето ми ще се радва, когато устните ти говорят право.

Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.

Да не завижда сърцето ти на грешните, а живей в страха от ГОСПОДА цял ден,

For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

защото наистина има бъдеще и надеждата ти няма да се отсече.

Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.

Слушай, сине мой, и бъди мъдър, и насочвай сърцето си право в пътя.

Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:

Не бъди между пияници, с лакоми месоядци,

For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

защото пияницата и гуляйджията осиромашават и сънливостта облича в дрипи.

Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.

Слушай баща си, който те е родил, и не презирай майка си, когато остарее.

Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

Купувай истина и не я продавай, и мъдрост, и поука, и разум.

The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.

Бащата на праведния ще се радва много и който ражда мъдър син, ще има радост в него.

Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.

Нека се веселят баща ти и майка ти и нека се възхищава тази, която те е родила.

My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

Сине мой, дай сърцето си на мен и нека очите ти внимават в моите пътища,

For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.

защото блудницата е дълбока яма и чужда жена е тесен ров.

She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.

Да, тя причаква като крадец и умножава неверните между хората.

Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?

Кой има горко? Кой има скръб? Кой има кавги? Кой има оплакване? Кой има удари без причина? Кой има мътни очи?

They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.

Онези, които закъсняват над виното, които ходят да търсят подправено вино.

Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.

Не гледай виното, че е червено, че искри в чашата, че се поглъща гладко,

At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.

защото накрая то хапе като змия и жили като усойница.

Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.

Очите ти ще виждат странности и сърцето ти ще говори объркано,

Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.

и ще бъдеш като спящ сред морето или като лежащ на върха на мачта.

They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

Удариха ме, но не ме заболя, биха ме, но не усетих. Кога ще се събудя, за да продължа, да го потърся пак?
