Jonah 1

Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

ГОСПОДНОТО слово беше към Йона, сина на Аматий, и каза:

Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.

Стани, иди в големия град Ниневия и прогласявай против него, защото злината му се изкачи пред Мен.

But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.

А Йона стана да побегне в Тарсис от лицето на ГОСПОДА. И слезе в Йопия и намери кораб, който отиваше в Тарсис, и плати за пътуването си и влезе в него, за да отиде с тях в Тарсис от лицето на ГОСПОДА.

But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

А ГОСПОД надигна силен вятър в морето и стана голяма буря в морето, и изглеждаше, че корабът ще се разбие.

Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.

И моряците се уплашиха и извикаха всеки към своя бог, и хвърлиха в морето вещите, които бяха в кораба, за да олекне от тях. А Йона беше слязъл и легнал на дъното на кораба и спеше дълбоко.

So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.

И капитанът на кораба се приближи до него и каза: Какво спиш? Стани, призови Бога си — може би Бог ще си спомни за нас и няма да загинем!

And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.

И си казаха един на друг: Елате да хвърлим жребий, за да разберем заради кого ни е това зло. И хвърлиха жребий и той падна на Йона.

Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?

И му казаха: Кажи ни, молим те, заради кого ни е това зло! Каква ти е работата и откъде идваш? Коя е страната ти и от кой народ си?

And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.

А той им каза: Аз съм евреин и се боя от ГОСПОДА, небесния Бог, който е направил морето и сушата.

Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them.

И мъжете твърде много се уплашиха и му казаха: Какво си сторил? Защото мъжете бяха разбрали, че той бяга от лицето на ГОСПОДА, понеже им беше казал.

Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.

И му казаха: Какво да ти направим, за да утихне за нас морето? Защото морето ставаше все по-бурно.

And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.

И им каза: Вземете ме и ме хвърлете в морето и морето ще утихне за вас; защото зная, че заради мен ви постигна тази голяма буря.

Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.

А мъжете гребяха силно, за да върнат кораба към сушата, но не можеха, защото морето ставаше все по-бурно против тях.

Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.

И извикаха към ГОСПОДА и казаха: Молим Те, ГОСПОДИ, молим Те да не загинем заради душата на този човек! И не налагай върху нас невинна кръв, защото Ти, ГОСПОДИ, си извършил, каквото си искал.

So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.

И взеха Йона и го хвърлиха в морето, и яростта на морето утихна.

Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows.

И мъжете се убояха твърде много от ГОСПОДА и принесоха жертва на ГОСПОДА и направиха обреци.

Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

А ГОСПОД определи една голяма риба да погълне Йона. И Йона беше в корема на рибата три дни и три нощи.
