Psalms 124

Canto dei pellegrinaggi. Di Davide. Se non fosse stato l’Eterno che fu per noi, lo dica pure ora Israele,

If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say;

se non fosse stato l’Eterno che fu per noi, quando gli uomini si levarono contro noi,

If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us:

allora ci avrebbero inghiottiti tutti vivi, quando l’ira loro ardeva contro noi;

Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:

allora le acque ci avrebbero sommerso, il torrente sarebbe passato sull’anima nostra;

Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:

allora le acque orgogliose sarebbero passate sull’anima nostra.

Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.

Benedetto sia l’Eterno che non ci ha dato in preda ai loro denti!

Blessed be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.

L’anima nostra è scampata, come un uccello dal laccio degli uccellatori; il laccio è stato rotto, e noi siamo scampati.

Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.

Il nostro aiuto è nel nome dell’Eterno, che ha fatto il cielo e la terra.

Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
