Isaiah 20

به فرمان سارگون امپراتور آشور، فرماندهٔ قوای آن کشور به شهر اشدود در فلسطین حمله کرد.

In the year that Tartan came unto Ashdod, (when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him,) and fought against Ashdod, and took it;

سه سال قبل از این خداوند به اشعیا پسر آموص گفته بود که کفشها و پلاس را از تنش درآورد. او اطاعت کرد و عریان و پا برهنه به هر جا می‌رفت.

At the same time spake the LORD by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, Go and loose the sackcloth from off thy loins, and put off thy shoe from thy foot. And he did so, walking naked and barefoot.

وقتی اشدود فتح شد، خداوند گفت: «بندهٔ من اشعیا سه سال عریان و پا برهنه به هر جا رفته است. این نشانه‌ای است از آنچه برای مصر و حبشه روی خواهد داد.

And the LORD said, Like as my servant Isaiah hath walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and wonder upon Egypt and upon Ethiopia;

امپراتور آشور اسیرانی را که از این دو کشور گرفته بود، برهنه خواهد برد. همهٔ آنها -‌پیر وجوان- لخت و پا برهنه راه خواهند رفت. باسن‌های لخت آنها موجب شرمساری مصر است.

So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners, and the Ethiopians captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.

آنها که به حبشه متوکّل شده‌اند و به مصر فخر می‌کنند، سرخورده و ناامید خواهند شد.

And they shall be afraid and ashamed of Ethiopia their expectation, and of Egypt their glory.

وقتی آن روز برسد، مردمی که در سواحل فلسطین زندگی می‌کنند، خواهند گفت: 'نگاه کنید و ببینید چه بر سر کسانی‌که انتظار داشتیم از ما در مقابل امپراتور آشور حمایت کنند، آمده است! ما چگونه زنده خواهیم ماند؟'»

And the inhabitant of this isle shall say in that day, Behold, such is our expectation, whither we flee for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria: and how shall we escape?
